At least with the Leafs being eliminated already, it frees up time to do other things this winter.

Maybe Matthews is "giving" the Leafs organization 4 years to stop (frank)ing up. Maybe he sees the same writing on the wall some of us posters do.

I wouldn't wanted to waste my career playing for a team that always comes up short and won't fix the obvious.

Matthews is a smart kid, played in Europe making $ instead of any amateur team or league in North America, he would understand this team more than any one.

He could hate Keefe. He could know Shannahan has been the pupper master all these years. Matthews could know so much more than us.

I guess the point is, maybe the player knows more than the average HB poster about the inner workings of the Leafs and conducts himself accordingly.

This franchise could be (frank)ed internally and some of the players are giving it a shot at the same time milking it for every penny. RoR didn't like it. There have been a few others. Just sayin'.

I though that was about the draft.

I actually ran into Rod Brind'amour's father at the Toronto airport years ago and I joked that he should join the Leafs. He said that he'd NEVER want his kid playing in Toronto, basically the old don't $#!+ where you eat type of deal.

He could have played for "free" in the NCAA or joined the USHL/CHL for "free," he's one of the only players in history to sign a pro deal with a pro league as a 17 year old before his draft year. It's also extremely unique because he's not from Europe and therefore attached to a Team/League which can loan your rights to various teams and pay pro-rated salaries as required in the leagues you play SHL vs Allsvenskan vs SuperElit

Bo Bichette signed a 3 year / $33,600,000 contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, including a $3,250,000 signing bonus, $33,600,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $11,200,000. In 2024, Bichette will earn a base salary of $11,000,000, while carrying a total salary of $12,083,333.

Yea but it was more a scandal that made him go, not for actual team performance.

You can’t say this for sure.

Maybe he could’ve got AAV somewhere else, but he became a much richer man signing that contract with the Leafs. Only 4 years, massive endorsement deals, biggest market in hockey.

I would’ve given it to him too.

Mitch I’d go 12.25 x 8

Willy 8.5 but he won’t take it.

Tavares 5x5 take it or leave it.

With regards to Matthews - you go back 10 years and these are the names on the Lindsay trophy: Crosby, Kane, McDavid, Kucherov, Draisaitl and Matthews.

Everyone one of those names is going to be in the Hall of Fame.

Go back 10 years on the Rocket Richard trophy, and these are the names on that trophy: Ovechkin, Crosby, Pastrnak, Matthews and McDavid. All of those are very likely Hall of Fame players (I'd be shocked if Pasta didn't end up there - he's fantastic).

Matthews has the third highest cap hit percentage in the league - based on age, precedent and performance, he likely deserves it. He's the youngest one on that list of players. He and Connor are also the guys to score more than 60 in over a decade.

Don't fool yourself: the safe would have been unlocked if Matthews hit the open market.

Ironically you think Mitch should be making more than Pastrnak which I don't. Mitch should take a cut to $10.5m if he wants to stay in line with his peers, who are Aho and Rantanen - and even that would have him paid more than either of them.

By the way, both of them also took shorter term deals so they could sign larger more lucrative contracts while they are still young enough to capitalize upon a escalating cap ceiling.

It was the team's record at the time that got him fired is my recollection.

I always thought the Pearson/Lindsay trophy should carry more weight with the fans than it apparently does. The Rocket and the Hart are sexier, but those are dictated soley by one stat for the Rocket and mostly by stats for the Hart. Winning the Lindsay is a sign of serious respect from your peers and competitors. A little puck luck can help win a Rocket for a one hit wonder, but you don't see any Pearson/Lindsay winners who flamed out after winning or came out of nowhere in one season to win it. Just my two cents. Actual worth may vary.

So Perry to waivers for buyout purposes.

Contract terminated for "unacceptable conduct", as per Chicago Sun.

Wow. Some truth in that rumor maybe?

If the rumors are actually true, I'm not sure it's ground for contract termination.

I mean.... it's not a cool move but how does it justify him losing his job?

I wouldn't think so either. It's definitely locker room poison if the rumor is true, regardless of which players would be allegedly involved. Don't poop where you eat.

Edit : gambling maybe? It had to be *something* ...

I don't think those particular rumours are true. It has to be something different.

I mean if they were, you can't terminate a deal because of it. Was there a "No sneaky going and doing Connor's mom" clause in his contract?

Now if he did and he kept calling Connor 'son' or insisting he call him, 'better dad' . . . that could be problematic.
