I wouldn't think so either. It's definitely locker room poison if the rumor is true, regardless of which players would be allegedly involved. Don't poop where you eat.
Edit : gambling maybe? It had to be *something* ... - GalacticStone
You know what the weird part is?
Despite being hated by his opponent, Perry was always seen as an amazing guy by all his teamates. Hell The Athletic wrote an article about that very fact when the season began.
It's so bizarre to see him in this situation.

If the rumors are actually true, I'm not sure it's ground for contract termination.
I mean.... it's not a cool move but how does it justify him losing his job? - Scabeh
Standard Players Contracts contain language that players will conduct themselves to the highest standards of morality, honesty, etc and refrain from conduct that is detrimental to team and league. Making the “boy who saved hockey” sad by banging his mom might qualify as conduct detrimental to the league |

And he was still putting up points at a decent clip for his age. But yeah, phuck that guy. I never liked him before he played for the Lightning and I never grew to like him when he did. I was happy when he scored goals for us, but never liked him.
But yeah, I read that same Athletic article. Humanizing the Worm. |

Perry on the Leafs then?! Might have to put a security detail on Marner's mom but... - Roadrunner75

Giving a Dirty Sanchez to the mom of the new wunderkid savior of hockeydom will generally get a person fired I think.

Back in the days, when Chelios screwed with the Habs President's wife, we just traded him away. There was no contract termination.

The sad part to this whole story is that Perry maybe just ruined any chance at the Hall of Fame because he went and got himself a SUCCABUS, and she’s going to distract him from playing well.
Too bad, he had such a distinguished career.. |

I don't think this situation will make or break his candidacy.
Unless we learn something truly horrible as the truth.

They are 2 consenting adults.
If Perry could agree that it was a breech of contract MAYBE they can mutually terminate it...but why would he.
Of course if the rumours are true.
I highly doubt banging a teammates mom and hurting his feelings can make a player lose 4M and the team get out of a contract.
I could be wrong, the NHL is (frank)ed up. |

If he thought the franchise was poop he wouldn’t have signed at all. This way gets two big $ deals. - Canada Cup
Not true at all. An assumption, yes.
I'm sure he loves SOME of the spot light in Toronto as a 20 something but I guarantee he loves the $$ he's making hear even more.
And technically, he'll get 3 big deals, the last one when he leaves, or stays, will be a Suter, Parise, Weber type deal for his final deal covering him late into his 30's...7 or 8 yr deal no doubt.
His agent is maximizing the short life span of a hockey player and his earnings and should.
And, Matthews isn't saying no.
None of that means Toronto is going to win, or that Matthews' deals help Toronto win in any way. He's making more than his fair share and "trying" to help the team win.
My question is, is the team helping him help them win?
JT signing and "C" didn't help.
Marner gutting the team for the most $ he can get isn't helping.
Nylander holding out for more $ isn't helping.
The Black Friday deal defense and Dollar Store bottom 6 aren't helping.
The goalie situation isn't helping either.
The only player that took a decent deal is Rielly.
Lose JT and his vanilla ass and Cap hit, give the C to Matthews (since I'm sure he's happy as poop looking around and seeing McD, the Thachuk's, Hughes boys, and a few other of these young stars getting the C's for their teams)...and then fix the D and G problems.
Or, we can just do this again for 4 years and all see what happens then, you know when he's a bit older, getting ready to sign his final contract and ONLY cares about winning.

If Perry wants to fight it, everything will become public. Might be simpler if he just goes along when the Bruins claim him. |
