Well lottery balls never went Detroit's way, but Seider, and Raymond are big parts of the club now. They are not bereft of young talent Evidsson (who was scheduled to be on the big club until injury), Danielson, your favorite Kasper, and the finnish defenseman will make an impact soon. Berggre, Rasmussen and Velano are contributors now too.
I think once Stevie Y decided to sign Larkin long term, he knew he had to take advantage of his window and start pushing the pace.
Stevie Y used his cap space very wisely, and was able to capitalize on acquiring and signing ADB, along with Copp and Compher.
Lets see if this is the year the Wings make it back into the playoffs. Stevie Y still has cap space to use at the TDL to shore up. - LAHawk
That's what I mean by what the rebuild brought and those fans did a lotta sufferin to get those young guys and yea man, I love Casper. A guy with a 3rd line mentality/game with some skill in his hands/feet can/will fool/sell me Every. Single. Time.
Like that McTavish kid outa ANA. Oh yea man, sign me up........
Kinda my point was not so much Stevie Y but that every rebuild is different. I mean LVG has a kinda rebuild/retool every couple yrs cuz of the cap. Their rebuild though is different from the total tear down rebuild of CHI/SJ, the soft rebuild of CLB/PHI, the never ending rebuild of AZ or the kinda rebuild in DET.

So, he got drunk Tuesday night in Columbus and did something stupid to/with/toward a team employee. - scottak
This is what I meant when I posted my concern is the pendulum never lands in the middle and the franchise will overcompensate.

The little I've seen of DET, they can get a little 'run & gun', which exposes goalies to more tough chances than average. Sort of like Grant Fuhr in EDM. - scottak
Or the DET Dmen are a bit weak? Lalonde is a USHL grad, was on the bench with Cooper in the USHL, Cooper went to the AHL, Lalonde took over and won a cup in the USHL.
A very structured USHL Green Bay club, in the bigs with Cooper a structured cup winning TB club and now he callin the shots in DET. ..... This guy can coach. |

i don't remember what telecast i was watching, but the point was made (like you point out), that after watching Vegas be successful by just trying to get the best team each year within cap constraints rebuilds do not necessarily mean like you state the tear it down SJS and Hawks rebuild. The commentator pointed out the Detroit/LA Kings model as maybe the new way GM's are going to try it.
Of course it helps when your core players are still producing (LA and Detroit), instead of the window being way in the rear view mirror (Chi/SJS)

A GM with a ton of cap space? Why not? - paulr
Why not? He's trying to build a Dynasty here. Cap space is a weapon. Nobody would take that guy without a sweetener. He should have gotten something for the cap space. Additionally, the cap space he wasted could have been used at this deadline to be the 3rd team in deals and get more picks. He seemed emotionally spent by the Perry situation, Allvin took advantage of him.

Never heard of the Salary cap? It has a floor too. Actually, from reading your posts I see there is a lot you don't understand about the NHL. - GPHawksfan
Were you the guy who used to tell us no Cup without a fighter?

Yo, LA........ How bout Lingren last night? I do know my brain is pickled but I forgot, or didn't know, Lindgren was a right catching goalie and IIRC he's outa the USHL. Think he played for Sioux Falls.
But of all the goalies I've seen the last 15 yrs Lindgren is the most old school of em all. Only gets into the squat when he has to, stands straight up until a shot comes, stays on his skates to where you can almost call him a stand up goalie (remember that term?) double stack the pad saves and even his pads look old school.
Watched a WSH game week 1 or 2 of the season and man this club looked slow and bad. Looks like a totally different club...... And I would not count LA out from representing the West. Lotta danger all over that lineup. Hopin Talbot can stay healthy and be right come playoff time.

Could be, not going to argue that Bouvillier is a must have but the Hawks do need a NHL body to replace Hall and Perry. Maybe Bouvillier has a good 20 games and he also gets moved at the deadline.
Hawks still have plenty of cap space to take on salary, but they only have 2 retention spots available the next couple of years, so dependent if the hawks move Johnson, Foligno, or even Richardenson with money retained it is not automatic that KD will be able to make that cap space trade.

So Both sides were correct
Perry stepping aside for a personal matter - substance matter
Organization benched him due to a breach of contract - Ill assume it was booze related to a team employee (lets assume yelling at them in public to make this easy). Likely something more egregious.
Both sides were telling the truth in some form. |

Lindgren played out of his mind last night. LA outshot Wash 39-15 and lost 2-1. MacLellan just shook his head afte the game and said the Kings got outgoalied, nothing wrong with the way the Kings played.
The Kings are deep, maybe Talbot can be LA's Niemi? |

Assuming Hall is in LTIR for the season and with Perry’s salary off the books the Hawks have a net gain of $5.8M. Not sure I’m seeing your concern? |

I'm really curious to see what KD has planned. He's going to have close to $50 million to spend next season.

I'd bet my hunerd bucks to your dollar it wasn't the Hawk's telecast where Panger or the Hair Dude brought up the many different kinda rebuilds with some examples!!!.... I was watching the SEA feed for 2 periods, switched to another game between periods, came back to the Hawk's game and accidentally clicked on the Hawk feed. Good Lord, what a difference between the booths! It actually changes the enjoyment of the game/sport.
You chirpin about the Hawk rebuild and how LVG runs their shop got me to keeping a closer eye on how LVG is doin bizness. They go on to win the cup so you gotta look at that approach.
Yea man, as the old saying goes more than one way to skin a cat. I am neither all in or out on one approach or the other but each situation is different and a rebuild/retool should be structured by circumstances. Stevie Y took over a Holland ravaged franchise with nuttin on the farm. Same with KD but Stevie kept Larkin and KD moved Dcat! ........ Time will tell. |

I think one of the things he's going to try to do is sign Vlasic to a long term deal. |

Hill has a .933 and Thompson a .917 save % this year, LVG goaltending has been great this year. |

Still hate the Wings Zach, doesn’t matter to me that the Hawks only play then a couple of times a year. Wings and Preds are one and two for now, that should change once the Hawks are top tier again and develop a new playoff rivalry. - Angotti

You should not ever hate the Maple Leafs. Every year in April they deliver both of us a very nice gift by crashing and burning in the playoffs. And on the very evening they get eliminated I open a very expensive bottle of wine and drink it all myself as I listen to all of the excuses put forth by the Toronto media. I find it very uplifting and good for my psyche. - RickJ
Well Rick, if Paul was a bit more evolved, he'd do the same. |

How much have you seen of LVG this yr? The few times I have I thought it's good to be an LVG goalie. That is a veteran laden, very structured cup winning club with a huge group of Dmen.
I think management realizes they don't have to spend a bunch on the position cuz the overall team D is so good. Very helpful for a club that is either a dollar under the cap or 9 mil over it.

There has to be a typo on the Beauvillier trade. There is no way a NHL GM would trade a pick to swallow a 4th line player with a $4.2 million cap hit. - stevefrmglencoe
