Torts couldn't convince me water is wet.

"We owe it to ourselves to win"......except when you do something I didn't like. Then f@ck you.

How do you play under a guy like that knowing your one hiccup away from being benched/scratched?

but we forget that Farabee is still a young, and needs the tough love

wait Foerster is young and makes mistakes and he doesnt sit

But neither does Frost, wait he sits too.

That can't be accurate. Isn't everyone held to the same standard? All of their last names begin with F so it can't be that. Maybe Torts doesn't like bees or being cold?

I do think Foerster has a high ceiling. If his skating improves just a little every season, when he hits his prime, he could be really good. His wall work is good already, his sense of where to be is good and his attitude seems great. He has size and the shot.

Maybe Fletcher had a few wins while here

Torts is an arrogant a-hole. The amount of stroke he has within the organization is sickening.

Really? Did we watch the same game? I thought it was a rather entertaining game (the first that I could actually watch in it's entirety in awhile). Everyone knows that they are mediocre. They at least compete and don't quit. I still think it's too early to give up on this new regime just yet. Let's see how things progress. Staal didn't play last night which was nice since he is one of Torts' pets. Perhaps Torts is trying to change some...although the Farabee benching would suggest otherwise.

Yes we watched the same game. Entertaining? Yes. Here’s the rub. This version of the Flyers cannot play any better than they did last night. It was maximum effort and yet they still could not outscore the Devils who played an uninspiring game. York, Brink and Forester played well and that’s nice. Frost with a goal and that’s nice. Bee sat for one early miscue. Watching Sanheim, Walker, Risto, Coots, Atkinson, Laughton, Peoling, ND, Hathaway for a few minutes), was meh. Watching Jack Hughes was exciting. That kid has a motor and moves and talent and when the game was on the line was a difference maker and everyone knew he was either gonna score or make the huge play to set up the score in the OT. He delivered.

That's what the NHL is all about. A coach can't coach talent into a player but he can coach a player on how to use his talent. Tortorella has the Flyers playing a structured, team game. Give him credit for that. Okay but is there more? I don't think so. He is at his limits. Which is why the only tool he has to use to try and get more blood from the stone, is the hammer. Bench and scratch players. It's so archaic. Juggle lines, move guys in and out. It's why I call him a high paid interim coach. He's done what Yeo should've done. Now they need more talent and they need a coach who can coach it. Unfortunately, this franchise and this coach, still thinks that culture, standard and those cliches are what wins in this league. It doesn't. Tortorella still coaches the same as he did back in the early 2000's. It worked then but it doesn't now. At least not to the level of the ultimate goal. Combine that with his asinine personality, poor player development and irrational decisions. Not the right guy. Unfortunately, he has the backing of the triumvirate and he has manipulated the franchise into actually thinking that he is the spiritual leader of the franchise. He's the used car salesman of the NHL, selling a Pontiac and getting people to think it's a Caddy.

I think the Flyers were always going to hire the highest profile old school coach they could get. Trotz wasn’t a good fit because his passion and vitality for coaching was fading. Montgomery was probably the best fit. He took a modestly talented Dallas team to the SCF. He’s a pure puck possession coach who may have gotten skilled players wanting to come to Philly.

Torts does get a lot out of his players. Players always praise him when he’s gone but I doubt many like playing in the environment he creates. He doesn’t get the most out of young players. He stunts their growth by not allowing them to make mistakes so that they can learn and grow. They say he loves his players. Maybe it’s some mad genius on his part that fans will blame him for a benching or a scratch minimizing fan fury for a player mistake. It’s killing two birds with one stone. Fan criticism of player mistakes is muted and Torts gets the attention he craves. Torts is needy in that he needs to be the center of attention. He recognizes that bad pub is better than no pub. He’s flawed but you have to take the good with the bad. Just win today is his mantra.

Montgomery more than being a puck possession coach, is an offensive coach. He transformed the Bruins transition and offensive game last year. Smart enough to realize that what they did defensively, worked, so he left that alone. He talked about how you can coach a team to play faster. How you have to retrain players who normally played conservatively and hung back, to move and play fast. To start skating. You have to attack with all 5 guys offensively to score. Have to use the full ice surface to move the puck. Changed them from a shot saturation team to a selective shot team. Better to hold onto the puck in regroups then to take low percentage shots that just transfer puck possession. Stressing not taking unscreened point shots and shots from low percentage areas. Wanting to get two at the net when taking long range shots to increase scoring percentage. Activating the weakside defenseman and adding neutral zone breaks to add options to drive forechecks back. He is really a strong coach. Unfortunately last season, injuries to the top 2 centers and some poor goaltending derailed them. They had a great start this season, but they're not in reality a 14-1 team or whatever. Definitely a playoff team and a possible contender but likely need to add.

They can play better. There are a few veterans who have areas to their games they need to clean up. We can also not sit one of our top players when we just had a guy get kicked out of the game.

If you’re going to try to cut it off at the wall you better make damn sure you get there.

He didn’t get there.

If you dont get there you better be damn sure to get on your horse and chase them down

He got on his snail.

That was an embarrassment by farabee. That’s boy hockey. This is professional hockey. It’s about more than you. There’s some guys who have kids on the team. That nonsense could be felt 50 years from now from atkinsons grandkid who is uninsured staring down a $75k medical bill that his grandfather could have helped him with if he’d landed a better contract at the end of his career

Calling it embarrassing is hyperbole on your part. It was simply a bad read as F3. He was trying to be aggressive. Farabee has arguably been the teams best forward this season. Benching after two shifts with his collection of work this season. Is the only thing embarrassing.

I don't really understand why the Flyers would trade him now? There will be more desperation closer to the trading deadline and that would yield a better return. Unless the Laffs are already in desperation mode and willing to buck up with something good in return.

not meaning this week, but this year. and not expecting it to actually be to toronto. but don't want them to hold onto him or players similar just because. take the assets

edit. more has to do with teams being interested in him and the flyers saying they are open for business.

Will there be a better return then? The Flyers are in the drivers seat. Set a price and if it's not matched. Then don't move him. The Flyers don't need to be in a rush.

Fletcher could get it done today. Something like Walker and a 3rd for future considerations.

Hart earns us a point. 3v3 really exposes our lack of high end talent.

Numerous teams are interested in Walker, which is no surprise.

The conversation between the 3 amigos goes like this: All these teams interested means we have to re-sign him.

Cooper, Brindy, Montgomery... no question why their names come up year after year in player polls of who guys would most want to play for. They're smart, give players leeway to be creative and they aren't bumholes. And they've had recent success.

And our guy... always tops the list of coaches players wouldn't want to play for. Mind games galore. Restrictive system. Arbitrary discipline. And I'm guessing there will multiple decent players on this team who will be asking for trades or declining to re-up to get away from Torts.
