Bill, I could have made that pass, far from tremendous lol

Just finished Torts’ presser from this morning. I enjoyed listening to what he had to say, especially closer to the end. When he talks about absorbing a hit, I remember LeClair being good at that. Just taking a hit like nothing happened. He’s right. You’ve gotta protect yourself at all times. I’m glad Hughes is okay though.

I have no problem with the coach being upset about the bad call on his player. I do find it childish for him to then go on and cry about the NHL wanting a no hit league and that players are at fault for not knowing how to take a hit. The mistake the ref made was failing to blow the play dead and then assessing a major based on the appearance that the player was hurt. The play was reviewed and Hathaway was not fined or suspended. He did nothing wrong. This wasn’t about wanting to take physicality out of the game. It was just a bad call. I don’t need to hear the coach crying about the good old days.

Torts is really starting to be irksome to me! I've been one of his supporters, but why the hell would you put Staal back in the lineup tonight? Zamula has his warts and is gonna make some mistakes, but let him play. Staal looks like he is skating in mud. Torts is gonna Torts.
- Phillywhiteout

Didn’t you see Torts quote from earlier in the week? He said something to the effect that he’s not going to risk losing a game simply to develop a young player. Seriously he said that.

Even more perplexing when you consider the young players he’s sitting are better than the ones he’s playing.

Those lesser veteran players are how you win! They bring culture, honesty, accountability and toughness to the lineup. The Flyers know that because they're the gold standard of the league. Just ask them.

Happy game day guys. These two teams are so mediocre it’s somehow an oddly compelling and relevant game.
- stayinthefnnet

But the pens beats the flyers in strategic tanking. Looking at the guys they picked up while being "down" there.

The Flyers make so few solid tape to tape passes that it merits mentioning when someone actually makes one.

Loved Tort’s little tirade about the pussification of the NHL. He can scream all he wants about this being a man’s game, it’s not going to change the way teams need to play the game now to be successful. It’s just childish.

- Dkos

I don’t remember much screaming in his presser. I believe he was asked a question and he answered it the way he feels. Personally, I don’t think there is a single thing John Tortorella can do or say to please anyone on this board. Do I agree with how he handled Farabee’s benching? Absolutely not. There are a lot of decisions he makes that I don’t agree with but I handle how I feel about his decisions case by case, not simply because I dislike him as a person or coach. We all know Torts can act childish towards the media. Today wasn’t one of those days. Like, we’re not just talking about a missed call. We’re also talking about the safety of players. The players should be aware at all times. I mean when speaking of crying, look no further than this board. I don’t have to like the guy but he’s not always wrong.

you guys think york will be a flyer for a long time or will we trade him
- 2Real

York looks like an above average 2nd pair defenseman to me. I think they will keep him. Personally I would use him in a package to get a higher potential defenseman like Brandt Clarke since he seems similar to Sanheim and Sanheim is likely too hard to move.

I don’t dislike Tortorella and I didn’t say he was acting childish towards the media. I think he needs to stop complaining that the league isn’t how it used to be and adapt to how it is.

York/Bonk would make a good 2nd pairing defense, problem is we have no 1 or 2 and thats what we need to draft in 2024. Making deals for picks should be priority no1.

Try to sell high on Walker now and get 2nd round pick.

Laughton will fetch a late first round pick from a contender.

Hart will fetch a 2nd pick plus maybe a prospect.

Just a few examples of deals to be made.

It was a nice play…Foerster has played pretty good. Obviously we are all hoping for a little more offence but I do like that they are at least letting him figure it out while playing
- landros 2

Foerster is hands the best puch retriever on the team and I rarely see him lose a puck battle. I posted once he got one more will follow quickly, and we are starting to see it, asF Foerster scored two more last game.

Are the Flyers able to match any of the better teams in the league playing any style of hockey? Should the Flyers tailor their style of hockey based on trying to win games? Or should they tailor to what is best to develop their young talent? Supposedly they're a rebuilding team.
- MJL

the Flyers are playing the right way, they are trying to win games. That is best way you develop young talent and rebuild a team. You would know that if you actually ever played on one.
