No Makar tonight due to injury. But don't think it mattered, the Kings just overpowered the Avs in the 3rd - 23 shots on goal.

And it was the Kopitar/Byfield line matched up against Mackinnon's.

Did anybody even notice P.L. Dubois out there?

Worse still, Ryan Johansen sucks.

I will go ahead and say it although it doesn’t make a difference tonight:

Make(r) or break(er)

If you are still up awake, Rick, I thought of another make or break scenario. Maybe. Leafs screw up everything with their all offense desire to winning

Well if Eckholm to Edm is not enough considering Oilers just suck defensively, what if Leaf’s snare Josi.

Wouldn't the Leafs just love to have Josi. Except they have no caps space, no draft choice capital and nothing other than Nylander or Marner to trade.

And Trotz unlikely to want to trade Josi, face of the franchise.

This goes out particularly to wiz because of the terminology

I don’t know if you were the first to use bubble butt in describing the strength or ability a prospect demonstrates to win wall battles

But here is terminology from elsewhere we may come to appreciate

After seeing the benefit of development by playing one year in AHL when Vlasic could have been in the NHL,

Rockford comes to represent the solid rock for some prospects but not necessarily eternal hope/life. Kaiser, Phillips and Reichel all make the NHL again (after demotion) and play well?

Whadya mean??? You're spoiled? How many rooks you want up? For 20 games you saw THREE rookie Dmen, a phenom and going by Riechel's last call up last yr (15ish pts in 25ish games) we all thought here he comes. He looks like a roller coaster, enjoy the ride of following a skilled 21 yr old try to figurd it out.

You, more importantly the organIzation, saw Crevier make a solid NHL debut today and Kaiser or Phillips will be back up cuz of injury, maybe even Allen or Del Mastro. And now a 26 yr old Beaullivier.

How big of a dopamine release you need every game day, LA??

Helluva game, COL @ LA tied at 1 10 to go. Good Lord, Byfield a beast. If he progresses as he looks like he will AND plays center he's a 10 yr top 5 player in this league.

- Mr Ricochet

I was talking this game and future. No Kaiser, Phillips, Reichel.

Why do I think about Wyatt Kalnyuk when the BOD goes head over heels about one game that Crevier played.

LA didn't make the playoffs for like 5 years Rico? And draft in the top 10, 3 years in a row?
- BetweenTheDots

Weren’t you the ne that said you are glad Blake is not the Hawk GM because he went and got Fiala, Gabrikov, and Dubois ?

The Kingsvare still young, and still has talent in Ontario.

Blake’s big miss was signing Peterson to that contract after one good season as Quicks back up

Shockingly, the Kings made poor Mr. Byfield play parts of 3 seasons in the AHL. THought it might benefit his development.

And now he looks like the one of the best power forwards in the NHL And he is supposed to be a center..

- RickJ[/quo

He also had injuries the past 3 years

What about strategy scenariios:
Bryam offensive zone starts. Last change home games. Who are the dmen battling Byfield. Kings could have a Big Buff effect in playoffs. Kings to the Cup final? With a their goaltending. Kings could try to upgrade goaltending. In play maybe Kalyiev, Clarke, Kings #1….food for thought

- jhawk59

Non starter, Kings might pick up a third goalie as insurance, but they are going the Vegas model for goaltending.( or the old Red Wings model of Vernon and Osfood) Plus Talbot has a .940 save percentage so far this year.

BOD - an acronym meaning Board of Doom that was attached to this place during the Cup run years. The blogger at the time and a number of fans/posters (mostly Mohel) somehow saw only negatives while the team was experiencing its best run in franchise history.

The BOD had nothing to do with posters getting out over their skis on a player that ultimately was just another guy. It was about constant gloom and doom in spite of what was actually happening on the ice.

Yes, but to the BOD’s credit the Hawks “only” won three cups. 😁

All true. The board was infiltrated with negative fears while the Hawks were great; and it is Pollyanna-ish now that they suck. The Board of Doom moniker fit back then, but seems inaccurate now.

I don’t think I’m technically BOD level, but I do think they should find better additions than the 35+ crowd they went after this offseason. The only thing they are learning this year is how to play from behind.

When the vets are looking as bad or worse than the rookies, I don’t think that is beneficial to the development. Maybe I’m overthinking this, but this is all valuable time and I hate to waste it because of inept rosters

The rebuild is not for the faint of heart. It's going to be like this for a while.

Looks like they are asking the dmen to be more aggressive with the dzone entries by the opponents, problem is a couple of times the forwards were to slow to cover the 3rd forward entering the zone. Don't know how this is going to work.

Saw Seth activate and once again the forward didn't cover but the Wild couldn't handle the puck and make us pay.

Yes it's ugly right now but that's the price paid for rebuilding. We already have 1 dman making 11.5% of the cap, let's not compound the problem by making an ill advised signing out of desperation. It takes 23 players to win a cup.

- BetweenTheDots

I agree. I give some slack to KD and LR. No way they could have anticipated playing so many games without Hall, AA and Perry. Bedard is the real deal. We are seeing some good play out of the younger players at times. Maybe the younger players need to be shuttled back and forth to Rockford where they are having some success. Hopefully this dismal year will not damage the psyche of the younger players. We knew we still had a couple of tough years ahead of us. We just need to hang in there and hold the fort until the next wave arrives (and maybe a few key trades or signings later this year or this summer). But there is no urgency for knee jerk reactions that needlessly gives away draft capital or prospects.

I could never understand how people like you could be happy with those teams from 2009 - 2016? What kind of “hockey fan” could possibly be happy with a team that didn’t fight, always got outhit, carried so many Eurosmurfs on the roster and when one of the toughest players was in fact a European? Every one of those three championships should carry an asterisk because they were embarrassments to how the game should be played. Call me BOD if you want, but unlike you I'm a hockey purist, I obviously understand hockey more than you and unlike you I’m a real man and real men don’t want to see a bunch of Panty waist lavender sniffing she men on my hockey roster.

KFC has no interest in doing anything this season but to cash in again on a high draft pick. If next summer he continues adding barely warm bodies with little to no intent on trying to win and more importantly build the team I’ll be up in arms like some people on here. But right now I’m content to watch the process and enjoy the rookies as they progress.

You have a long way to go.

I think KFC had a plan in place and if everything went according to it, Hall would be healthy and flanking Bedard, Reichel would be anchoring the second line, Foligno, Donato and Perry would be holding down spots on the bottom 6 and providing leadership, etc.

The plan's gone a bit sideways but it's not like they were going to sniff the playoffs this season.

Bedard appears as good as advertised and maybe better and the young dmen are getting their feet wet. KFC pivoted to Beauvelier and I like that addition. He's playing for his next contract but could be someone the Hawks like and decide to resign.

It will be interesting to see if Davidson is able to make another move like that in season and what kind of players he'll target in FA in the offseason.

I get it. My only issue is that before the season started, KD said this season is all about progression. Seeing how the first wave of young guys start to improve. I don’t think he did a great job in putting in a roster and structure for that to happen.

Dead horse is officially pulp.
