Torts explained this in today's presser, but I know you don't care about anything he says. However I do and I think his explanation made sense. Zamula is still learning, learning how to keep his legs moving so he is not stuck and learning how to handle late game situations. There was a play in the 3rd period I think where Risto took the puck from behind his own net and skated the puck out of the zone cleanly and effectively. This is something that Zamula needs to learn to do. With Staal, though he had a rough game he has the experience especially late in games, and again Zamula can learn from Staal in these situations. Staal will be gone either at the deadline or after the season. As for Risto, it really depends. Right now he is earning every penny of his contract so he might be here for a while, which I am fine with as long as he keeps playing like he is.

Another interesting nugget from Torts today is he wants to start reducing minutes from Sanheim which I predicted they would do given he is looking gassed at the ends of these games. He will not be playing the PP and Risto will be used more on the PK.

You referenced one play where Ristolainen skated the puck out of the zone cleanly and effectively. One play? Are you telling me that there have been zero plays where Zamula skated the puck out of his zone cleanly and effectively?
You needed a press conference from Tortorella to tell you that Zamula is still learning? LOL. He is a rookie in his first NHL season and it's December. A player learns from playing and not from the magical fantasy perch of seeing the game from a different perspective. Where he can watch Staal and learn from? LMAO

Add to that he isnt going to have Staal out there either for the most part. So it makes even less sense.
- MBFlyerfan

I flagged this sorry. Yea, the fact that he wants him out there 😂 undeniably stupid from torts

So in your opinion right now Zamula is a better player than Staal? If so that is the dumbest thing I've ever read!
- jd250

Yes. Zamula is the better player! Staal is done!

Who says he is not going to have Staal out there late in games? He was other there night against the Penguins late in the 3rd, so I don't know why you say this.

So we are going to play the lesser player because we might be holding a lead at the end? Let’s forget the first 55 minutes of the game. This has to be one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read 😂
- ClaudeFather

It's beyond stupid. So far up Tortorella's ass. Watch where Staal is at the end of a game with the lead.

I like Zamula but he is struggling right now. I understand Staal had a rough game at times against the Penguins but I think he is far from cooked. Zamula will get his games here as the season goes along. Not sure why everyone wants to rush him back on the ice when he clearly needs some time to practice and reset.

On the bench because it was Sanhiem and York out there completely gassed because Tippet failed to make a simple play and get the puck out of the Flyers zone.

At 1:12, you stated that Staal was out there late in the game. Are you now rescinding that comment? Did you actually watch the game? When was Staal last shift of the game?

Listen, I am sorry you were wrong about Frost. I told you not to take a victory lap after last season and now you look foolish. I am sorry about this, I tried to warn you but you didn't listen. I am also sorry you were wrong about Risto. I told you he would improve once he got real coaching with the Flyers. I told you Risto was playing the best of all the Flyers defenseman and yet you wouldn't acknowledge it and now you look foolish. I am sorry the Flyers are heads and shoulders a better team than they were when Torts took over, and it was done in about one season. I told you Torts was a good coach and you just wouldn't believe me, and now you look foolish. And I am sorry that Farabee is pretty much what I said he was, a middle six forward. You were so gung-ho about Farabee and rebuked me when I said I needed to see more, and now, once again, you look foolish because, alas, this is what Farabee is. If you would just listen to me you would be in such a better place in your life. It's just sad for me to see what you have become.

Well, firstly Walker according to reports is garnering a lot of interest so it would make sense for the Flyers to trade him by the deadline and gain some good assets. The Flyers can always try to resign Walker in the off season, though there is a good chance some team will throw a boatload of money at him which means he will sign elsewhere. Staal will be gone either at the deadline or in the off season. So that is two spots that will be open for Zamula or maybe two other young defenseman.
- jd250

while it may make sense to move him, we are talking about the flyers incompetency coming into play.

Staal will not be moved. Whether he is back next year remains to be seen. God knows he shouldnt.

So removing say 2 out of 7 dman isn't really a huge change at all. Or those 2 spots go to a free agent vet signing or via a trade.

Staal was out there late in the 3rd period but not when the tying goal was scored. He probably would have been if Tippet had been able to clear the puck and the Flyers could get a line change.

Zamula is not struggling. Nor does he need a reset. He is having the normal growing pains of a young defenseman developing in the NHL. His all around game is actually decent for young player. There is zero legitimate reason to be playing Staal over Zamula. Staal is cooked.

No, he was not. Staal did not see a shift in the final 5 minutes of the 3rd period.

depends if the younger defenseman in LHV are ready. I hope at least one is, whether that be Andrae or Ginning, but I think the Flyers will slowly start integrating young defenseman as they show they are ready to play well in the NHL.

There is a reason, Torts is coaching to win games, that is what he is supposed to be doing. Just because Zamula is not playing in the game does not mean he is not developing. Now if he sits 6+ games like Frost then you have a beef, but right now you sound like nothing more than a big baby.

LMAO, so he is playing Staal over Zamula to win games? When the evidence overwhelmingly points to Zamula being the better player? Again, there is no legitimate reason to sit Zamula over playing Staal. Your comments are idiotic.

So perhaps this coaching staff is pretty good, eh?
- jd250

There are both pros and cons to my statement. On one hand, good on Torts for believing in Foerster and sticking with him. However, it’s come at the expense of Brink and Frost’s development. Might have even come at the cost of some wins. If Frost has to score to be in the top 6, the same should go for Foerster.

Flyers don’t really have a lot in house yet. Andrae looks like the only decent prospect in the AHL. I think they did well drafting Bonk and Sotheran but they are still years away from the NHL roster. Briere has his work cutout for him to remake this blue line. It’s one of the reasons I can see this team being worse next year.

forget ginning as he doesn't even factor into the equation at this point imo.

Flyers are trying to win they don't have time to integrate young dman into the lineup.

I'm not sorry. I greatly enjoy you making yourself look like a fool. It's highly entertaining.

Even in the face of overwhelming facts, you stick to your foolishness. That's a special skill.
