Sullivans inability to change is the primary reason why he should not stay in the role. The repeated insistence on playing Jeff Carter in OT, his insistence on putting him on the ice 1st shift after a pens goal (led league in giving up a goal in ten games 60 seconds or less after scoring last yr), continuing to play veterans over younger players, etc. His message is stale.
why he will not be fired: 1) he negotiated an extension with FSG going around hextall last season, 2) he has the Boston/FSG connections and 3) sid, geno and letang dont want to break in a new coach |

Are you high??
I don’t have an axe to grind with the Leafs, but this is nonsense. If I was the Leafs front office, I’d trade him asap. Take a top pair d man, and (prospect or 1rd pick) and move on.
Here’s why that makes sense.
1. The model they have just doesn’t work. How many years do you want to go into the playoffs and get bounced? Playoff hockey is very different from regular season, skill plus toughness wins.
2. He’s the only viable trade chip they have due to the current contracts the previous GM gave out.
I know most Leaf fans think their players are worth 10 times more than they are, but be realistic, change the chemistry, balance offense with strong D, and maybe you have a shot. - Hokeeguy9
That and usually teams dont want to trade their #1 D !

You don't have an axe to grind with the Leafs, but then go on to say that most Leafs fans think their players are worth 10 times more than they are.
Fans from fanbases across all teams and sports tend to overvalue their players. I don't believe this is something limited to Toronto.
That being said, they aren't getting a top D-man, roster player and draft pick for a winger on an expiring contract, regardless of how great he's been so far this year.

Just curious on whom the Leafs fans would want it to be ? |

He also missed the part where Willy is not the best winger in the NHL.
Unless he left out the "... entering UFA status..." part.

I didn’t say they would all of that. In fact, I didn’t say number one D either. I said top pairing, and maybe that player is on an expiring contract, or has an extra year left, then add a pic OR prospect. At any rate, their current model doesn’t work. They're soft scorers who excel in the regular season, then get pushed around come playoff time.
As far as saying their fan base overvalues their players. It’s true. And while all teams’ fans do it, they just a little over the top. And I’m not being disrespectful. I’m just saying I wouldn’t hate seeing them win one. However, the current path isn’t working.

Sullivan made adjustments at ES. Not sure they are the right ones, but he did make adjustments. The PP is managed by Reirden and they have failed miserably adapting. But ultimately Sullivan is responsible and if a coach can't get Letang, Karlsson, Crosby, and Malkin better than 32nd on the PP, then they shouldn't be a coach. |

I think you misunderstood me. I didn't mean to say that you did, I was agreeing that they wouldn't be getting a haul like that for a winger on an expiring contract.
I've been a Leafs fan for a long time, and I know a lot of Leafs fans. There are some that of course are homers and overvalue the players but there are a lot of us who are just apathetic towards the team due to lack of success. I do think all teams have fans who are both, but there seems to be a lot of Leafs fans out there. Maybe that's why it appears this way.
No worries - I didn't think you were being disrespectful. All good! |
