Owen Power needs to take note of how his more experienced teammates, particularly Rasmus Dahlin and Erik Johnson, use brute force to kill plays. Too often, Power loses a battle along the wall or in front of the net. He’s listed at 6-foot-6, 221 pounds, yet he doesn’t always play like a big, mobile defenseman. It’s important to remember that Power was told by his coaches at Michigan not to hit as often as he should. A player his size will be routinely penalized by Big Ten officials cracking down on body checks. Power shouldn’t be pushed around like he did on the Red Wings’ second goal, when Fabbri earned inside leverage before getting to the puck around the Sabres’ crease.
