A significant amount of the people at Leaf games are not fans. They are people with a significant amount of disposable income looking to see and be seen. The game is beside the point of being there.

I think that's bs. I'm a ticket holder and I think it's fair to say that it's a more reserved crowd during the regular season. But I think that's b/c the barn is filled with 20k fans who watch hockey a million times a year ....there's less to get excited about when you've seen as much hockey as we have. In the playoffs ...it's special and the crowd is loud because it's special.

Income doesn't equate to "I'm not a real hockey fan".

Despite these things the team is in pretty good shape in the standings. The thing I’m least worried about is their lack of regulation wins.
- Canada Cup

Its actually kinda shocking how good things look in the standings when you see how bad they've played in many games and considering the health of the D core. If Tre can pull off a deal to shore up the D, and someone can get AM34 scoring again, things are looking good.

That's franking nonsense.

Seen by who?

Yes, the lower bowl is all corporate-types.

They all played hockey growing up.

Toronto fans at games are a pretty sophisticated hockey viewer - they don't get out of their seats to cheer an icing or a Leafs goal to make it 6-2 (Leafs still losing) with 6 minutes left in the 3rd.

- Atomic Wedgie

So the majority of the lower bowl and all the private boxes is not a significant amount? Sophisticated, indeed - in the various Sauv Blancs and appetizers on offer.

They all played hockey growing up? I'm not so sure about that, but even that and rocking an authentic Marner Jersey doesn't make you a fan - many are simply lifestyle consumers that wouldn't know an offside from a Rolex. MLSE know their clientele and charge accordingly.

That is true when I go now I sit in the corporate boxes.
Doesn't mean I don't read everything Leafs.
That I don't doodle possible line combos in August.
That as a kid playing road hockey I was Johnny Bower ( yes I am old)
If I had known in 1967 watching the Leafs win the Cup on the 12" black and white TV with rabbit ears that I might not see that again in my lifetime I would have been more appreciative.

5 regulation wins in 22 games is really bad

they are 7-4 in basically calling heads or tales.
if they ran into some bad luck and go 4-7, its a disaster season so far

Wait, so Gudas' beard on Matthews?!? Now THAT I'd give a non-protected first to see.

Can anyone photoshop that?!?!

These are the serious hockey issues that so-called "sports journalists" are missing out on.

Inquiring minds want to know.

What is this opinion based upon?

Seems like nothing more than resentment.

Yeah, they are screwed in the playoffs, when if it is tied after 3 periods it's an automatic loss.

well historically, teams that win as little in reg like the leafs are pacing, dont make the playoffs

so if they keep going to OT, they dont have to worry about those auto losses

Come on Wedgie, when was the last time he said something positive about the Leafs.

He love to hate them I find.

Except if they keep doing what they’re doing, (going to OT and winning a decent number of those), they likely go to the playoffs.

You can’t just take the negative part of their record and extrapolate out from that while ignoring the rest of their record

Five regulation wins in 22 games, to me, just highlights who the Leafs are, and who they have always been. They are a team that just does enough to win and no more. And this year they are cutting it very close with that mindset. They don’t have a strong work ethic and they don’t have the killer instinct, and they never ever play 60 minutes. Which is why their playoff record speaks for itself. So what happens if they don’t make the playoffs or lose in the first round again this year!? You know what happens, nothing, because they all have No Trade Clauses.

Yeah that sucked when they lost in the first round again last year.

They are a lock for the playoffs. This team has played about as bad as anyone could expect, and now have cap flexibility. They'll get it figured out, starting tonight

You really can’t. The National Association of Extrapolators conducted a survey of 15 people and from that determined that you can’t

I wonder how many regulation losses they have, no one's mentioned that yet. I'm guessing more than anyone else.
