They have Lagesson in their top 4 and are playing an unplayable timmins after injury and Benoit.
I’ll reserve judgment until they get healthy and add some D.
I just see Toronto media and fans going a little nuts for no reason, what else is new. - Santo_44

Yeah that sucked when they lost in the first round again last year. - Zezel
They won 1 extra game in the playoffs last year
Lol
1 extra game.....an "elite" team with "elite" players won 1 extra playoff game.
Well i guess 2 extra as they had to win 4th game of the final.

I wonder how many regulation losses they have, no one's mentioned that yet. I'm guessing more than anyone else. - Zezel

You really can’t. The National Association of Extrapolators conducted a survey of 15 people and from that determined that you can’t - Canada Cup
I tried to get a booth at their 2025 convention and trade show.
Asked for pricing, but they said they couldn't predict something two years away. |

I wonder how many regulation losses they have, no one's mentioned that yet. I'm guessing more than anyone else. - Zezel
They are, objectively, 5-6-11 by old metrics. To put that in good context, only the Bruins, Rangers, Knights and Kings have fewer than 6 regulation losses this year. The challenge is the .477 winning percentage that metric poses - it's not good enough for a playoff spot.
We know there's 60 games left to be played and we know this team is good and is going to get better. They are doing what they are doing right now without Marner really going consistently yet, without Matthews being consistent, while trying to find the game of Domi and Bertuzzi and having a relatively poor defense and poor performance from their expected starting goaltender.
We've seen Domi and Bertuzzi start to play more consistently and better and find their roles. The emergence of Robertson is helping the third line. Knies still has to find a bit more to his game but top line pressure is hard for a rookie. That space and those doors will open for him when Marner and Matthews find their groove. And while Samsonov labours and battles injury and illness, Woll has stepped up and is playing fairly well.
When I crap on them, I'm not passing judgement on who they are at their core nor do I believe that the problems of the past necessarily represent the present team - but while there could be systemic problems from the culture, coaching or leadership, I believe that the Leafs problems are an example of right now - they can and should fix this.

So what you're saying is that they won more than Boston, Colorado and Tampa?
They ran into a team with an exceptionally hot goaltender. They outplayed them but lost. I mean they added two forwards who played for teams that ALSO lost to Florida and their hot goalie, but I'm not a fan of that fact so we'll ignore it for now. I think if you run into Florida again in the playoffs, Bob doesn't rock elite numbers and it's a much different series.

At the end of the day they'll get 100 points and be in the playoffs and have as good a chance as anyone.

The point is that the Leafs did better than all three of those elite teams that have recent cups. Do we all want more progress faster? Yeah, of course. But to kick the poop out of someone for making progress seems a bit counterproductive to the whole process. |
