Even the Alumni lines are screwed up - Flyers being Flyers.....
- 4th line of knuckle draggers
- sharp being wasted between 2 slugs
- Lindros and LeClair not on the same line even though thy exhibit tremendous chemistry
- Joe Watson! Talk about that vet-tran presence

- mr4tno

Haha this is great! I was wondering if someone would make a wisecrack about the alumni lines. Daryl Stanley on 3rd pair D is just like Risto!

How the hell is it possible that the nhl can have an 8 game disparity between teams in December. Ottawa 21 gp. BJs 29 gp.

Their depth is a soon 39 year old Jeff Carter. Their PP horrible. Big names but high age.

That is nuts! I guess Ottawa has a pretty thick schedule coming up.

That’s not going to help them get back into the playoff mix.

They are in huge trouble. Another 0 fer on the pp and there’s no chemistry. Guess it wasn’t all hextalls fault if boy genius who led toronto to glory can’t sort these geriatrics out. Haha

The Pens PP issues with some of the players they have is a complete mystery. It's costing them their season.

I have a close friend who is a die hard pens fan. He watches every game and he says that in his opinion, they have too much talent loaded up on one pp unit and somehow that is throwing off the chemistry. Then now they’ve lost confidence over thinking it and it’s spiralling. If they don’t turn it around, the karlsson trade will look like a disaster.

there is still time but if you had to say what it looks like and feels like now? Crosby and Malkin, while still putting up point are not the same, the NHL favors young legs and them being an elder team, they are not keeping up, that has bled into the PP and it wrecking their team confidence to score. It could all change but it looks that way now.

There is such a fine line between winning and losing in the NHL. The Pens at 5 on 5 are one of the best offensive and defensive teams in the league. Top 10 in both categories. They're a top 10 PK team. Their season is literally being derailed by the PP. They've scored the least number of 5 vs 4 goals in the league. With 6 goals in 26 games.

I've been able to watch a few of their games as of late and it appears as if Malkin is cooked. I know his numbers don't look that bad, but he started off hot. Crosby still looks like Crosby to me for the most part and his line is dominating at 5 on 5, but they are basically a ONE line team with no PP at this point and that ain't gonna work for anyone.

Malkin has done this for years now, he still gets his points but he’s very hot and cold. Looking drastically different game in and game out

You keep talking as if this is a short and limited process. It is not. You're being fooled here by this team. They aren't what you think they are. It's fools gold. You represent the segment of the fanbase that the team is targeting. Just give them a competitive team and they'll act like they hit the lottery. "I'm so happy we have a team that is fun to watch and is competitive. Reeled in like a dead fish.
- MJL

I don’t often agree with you but this 100% correct and well said. I will also to it this…. The team knows they have enough suckers that will buy into this and financially support team so it just becomes status quo with a twist.

So you'd rather them be a punching bag for the league and totally suck every night for what may or may not be a successful rebuild/tank down the road?
- Phillywhiteout

See that’s a totally false narrative. Why would they be a punching bag? And why would they suck? Define suck? They have plenty of young talent. The point of the rebuild is to rid players (specifically older ) that don’t fit into teams future AND to use players that don’t fit a realistic timeline that hold value NOW as assets. You need to do this in a rebuild BEFORE you get pinned down with contract implications. This team is fools gold. It actually proves they wouldn’t be punching bags. The flyers have 2 more wins than the Sabres take away coots to hart and yes they more than likely have a few less wins for sure but punching bag? The needle isn’t moved toward the ultimate goal with those players. Using them as assets does give chance toward that path tho.

why has buffalo and edmonton failed? look forward to your response.
- hello it's me 2050

Buffalo failed because Murray during rebuild tried to rush the process and traded way too many picks for wrong players. To steal a hexy quote it wasn’t “go time” which put them back. How are eichel/Reinhardt doing now?

Edmonton just in conference finals. That’s failed?

Yes they like every team have problems but failed? Both of their paths are currently way better than what Philly does

I don’t think very many people on this board have any idea of what they want or even what they’re talking about. Some want to tank but complain that Nick Deslauriers and Rasmus Ristolainen are here and playing every night. Sounds like a recipe of tanking to me. Many wanted the kids to play. They’re playing but I don’t believe you can tank and have positive results in developing prospects if you want to throw games. I swear, if most of these guys could do a better job of building a team, they would be in the business. It’s the equivalent of someone seriously hurting themselves, going to see a doctor, the doctor gives you the worst possible case scenario for your recovery and a year later you’re recovered but you’re going round telling people doctors don’t know what they’re talking about. It’s their job to give you the worst case, it’s just up to you to work at getting better. Most of you are screaming from the highest mountains to say we’re being fooled. What are we suppose to do, stop watching? You’re clearly still watching. Hockey is what keeps my winters warm. What are the Flyers suppose to do, cancel each season? Openly tell their fans we’re going to throw every game? Most of what’s said on this board is complaining just to complain. Don’t act like you won’t be right back on the bandwagon the second Michkov steps off the plane in 3 years, even if the team has made zero positive steps. Most importantly don’t insult the rest of us as if you’re above supporting this organization.

Right. Confirming that simply tanking is not the be all end all. Honestly, the Pens are the only team to get "tanking" right in any sport. The did it twice and got five cups out of it.

I guess I will concede the Astros as well. I do not like including them cause they are cheaters but you cannot deny their success.

- mickel25

Well to be correct the pens were given sid. That was rigged for sure. They owed Mario 100 mil and gave him team and Sid

They are developing young players currently while putting an exciting product on the ice. Young players are contributing and there is no one on the Phantoms that is being held back currently. They have decisions to make on TK, Walker, Laughts and Hart. They should be in no hurry to trade any of them at the moment. Coots isn't going anywhere cause no one wants that contract. I honestly don't understand where folks are coming from here. If they lose 10-2 tonight you'll all be complaining cause the product sucks and is an embarrassment. If they win 10-2 you'll be complaining cause they are fools gold. I simply don't get it. WTF! What would you do differently? And don't say trade Coots cause that ain't happening.
