What a (frank)ing joke.
If Toronto had done, the mlb will be raging.

"Shohei Ohtani's $700 million contract calls for him to be paid only $2 million a year for the next 10 seasons, with $680 million deferred until the end of the deal, sources confirm to ESPN.

The CBT hit on the contract is going to be around $46 million, a huge discount for L.A."

From chris johnston

"John Tavares has more goals (435), assists (565), points (1,000) and games played (1,054) than any other member of the 2009 NHL Draft class"

However, the poor guy has only ever won two playoff series. Come on leafs gotta do better this year!

Given the deferral, I had read that in today's dollars it's the equivalent of about 45-50M per year. So not a lot more than Judge.

Should we hope for a hard cap in MLB to begin in 2033? Dodgers working with a 68M less than everyone else for a decade would be nice.

nah. too far down the road to care

the funniest part is the tax ...skirting thats likley to happen. So it will really work out to more than the 45-50. he will be retired and living somewhere that he gets taxed 50 cents total

Oh ya for him it'll probably be great (not sure what Japan's income tax laws are like).

But for the Dodgers they could invest/put away about 45M-50M in real dollars over the next 10 years and pay it out to Ohtani at 68M per year when it's owed.

Only downside for the LAD's should be the full $68 had better be allocated for cap/lux tax calculations.

Absolutely shocking stuff from a draft who's next best offensive players are Matt Duchene, Nazem Kadri and Evander Kane. 2/3rds of the first round aren't even in the NHL.

Ryan O'Reilly had a nice career too.

And of course Hedman is a monster.

Frank no.

Why would anyone go there?

To see rusty pickups and ignorance?

In the summer, it's a good place place to stop and let the wasps pick off all the dead bug corpses that accumulated on your car driving through Saskatchewan.
Other than that, no reason at all.

Holy poop, I never even thought of that! Why pay insanely high taxes in California when you can go live elsewhere and take home a lot more. Wild.

As he should. Who else would top him? Hedman as a defenseman?

Kreider has had a good career, but I would take Tavares ahead of him all day.

I pay a higher tax rate than any of the billionaires in my country - which isn't hard to do since most of them don't any taxes at all, or get free handouts from the government. Socialism for the rich, capitalism for the poor.

just dont be poor.
