David Savard to Toronto gaining steam. - Scabeh
no thanks - no offense I just think that dude is spent.
why our illustrious GM chose to sign fragile Klingberg for 4.1M and couldn't sign up for 3 years of Schenn at 2.5 blows my mind.
Leafs didn't need what Klingberg could bring if he was playing well - and then you tie up that much CAP in a guy that's essentially one dimensional... really doesn't make any sense to me.

Hot take: trade Sammy for picks/prospects when Woll is healthy, go with Woll + Jones.
Use the cap space with Klingbergs (rip), trade for Savard, Parayko retained and have an extra few bucks to boost up the bottom 6. - joel878

some post Ohtani options for the Jays
https://x.com/DownToBlack.../1734604698202919394?s=20
Soler...just a DH, no defense and runs like crap. but the Jays need HR?
all feels super underwhelming - senstroll
I posted in a previous thread:
Sign Bellinger, overpay Yamamoto, bring back keirmaer or hernandez and get a dh....i guess soler would work.
If yamamoto works, you can move monoah if hes not working. |

It's funny how they seem to think we aren't "great" any more in the first place? Why not? They have a very low opinion of themselves and their country. What does "great" mean exactly? I have a hunch it's a lot like "woke" - it doesn't have a firm definition and it usually translates into whatever the person saying it doesn't like.
Great = things I like.
Woke = things I don't like. - GalacticStone
I don't think your country is great. It's broken. Just my opinion, though. |

Leafs needed scoring on the backend and someone to move the puck around on the pp. .i believe that was what Klingberg was suppose to help with and when he was healthy (2-3 games) he looked decent.
We all knew defensively, he wasnt good. |

I would like to see more from jones (which we will), my only worry is if one of those two get injured, whos the back up?
But im not 100% against the idea of moving sammy, specially if it helps to clear space for a legit top 4 dman. |

Savard doesn't produce much offense anymore but if you're looking for a guy that can eat minutes, play well on the PK and bring a physical game, he fits that bill perfectly. Only problem is that he's signed for one more year and that he tends to get injured blocking shots.
Oh and he plays the right side, which Toronto needs as well. I think he's not a bad fit.
Klingberg was just a mistake, the majority here knew it all along. |

I don't think a contender will want Savard to eat mins...plus 3.5M is too much for him now, maybe next year when they can double retain.
I was thinking maybe a 50% retained Dvorak could bring back something nice but looks like he has been pretty rough. |

I dont see it either...hence they would have to overpay...even then the odds are low. Imo.
Get 3b via trade perhaps.
Or a cheap filler? Solano (meh, ok), wendle, moustakas.
Or pay chappy. |

Zero offense pylon. Pass on that and dodge a bullet. He's not terrible, he's just not the BIG HARD D the Leafs need.

I won't argue there. Things are definitely broken here. And no matter how broken you guys think your government is, it does get some things right that we don't.
In a perfect world, I would take the good things about both and combine them into something better.

I honestly don't see what Dvorak brings to the table. If someone wants him, I'd gladly trade him away.
Savard plays well enough to help a contender, when healthy. He's no bargain but the Leafs would be better off him with than if Klingberg was still playing.

Can we nickname him "Howie"? At least then the jokes just write themselves.
If he gives up a stinker "Things can only get better" or "No one is to blame"....

Last nights game was just a mixed bag of great and 🤬🤬🤬. Sammy looked slow and flopaliciously bad. Seeing JT get 999 and 1000 though to epic chorus of boo's was beyond priceless!
Take the point
Bring on Jones. See how that goes. |

Jones was good in Seattle last year. The stretch of carrying the team when the rest were all down injured especially. Had the odd game off a little but overall was sound. Think he will be fine and guys likely will be a little tighter in front of him. |

I would agree with this in general - that a Top4 would be the best option.
But I can't believe a physical 3rd pairing guy wouldn't be a big help.
Islander's got Bortuzzo for a couple of non-top round picks - Zadorov was also not expensive...
having someone who can contribute on the PK and eat some d-zone minutes is needed more than another "offensive" guy
I can't believe the radio talking heads when they refer to Tyson Barrie being available - what the previous 'experiment" wasn't disasterous enough? A defenseman that can't defend AT ALL is not what is needed. - BorjeFan4Ever
Bortozzo looked like he had trouble standing up yesterday

Leafs got lucky with Klingberg
They also got lucky for not signing Dumba to 4M in the process.
I don't mind a Savard player but only if his cap hit comes back to the Leafs at 1M or less...which just will not happen with him with the term. |
