Atleast that Pig might have helped while the Sabres adjusted through the early part of the Season. Since I was told TC and preseason isn't for that.
Sabres could have done both this offseason, trade for Hellebuyck and changed there whole bottom 3 and it would have only put a scratch in there Prospect pool. - Buff36
Not likely. Given his current performance we likely just have an older goalie signed to an 8.5M dollar deal through eternity. I can tell you, his current .916 wouldn't save us and his save percentage is undoubtedly lower here than WPG. SUnfortunately, even if his sv% was unchanged, saving one more shot every hundred isn't getting us out from the bottom. Changing the bottom 3 likely has a larger impact.
Changing the bottom 3 out and getting two quality RHD instead of EJ and Clifton would've done a lot. Getting Helly would've done very little. No? |

Well we can agree to disagree. Like I said they could have done all of that this offseason and didn't. |

And that's fair, but out of curiosity, if you could do either but not both, would you:
Replace the 2 RHD and 3 4th liners
OR
Sign Hellebuyck
I guess, which do you think has the larger impact on the state of the team? Not trying to see CH doesn't help, I just don't think it's that drastic. Agree to disagree is fine, but I'm curious which you would go with if forced to choose one or the other. |

How about a coaching staff that can manage to get them to not blow their loads in a win so they don't look like they're playing at 3 AM the next game. Is that an option? cause that's the one that makes the team actually better

This, sadly, may be true. And I really liked Donny, but the sheen is wearing off real fast.
Meh.
It's kinda gone. |

Think you know I would take a Dman, probably been the most vocal on that for years now.
And say they traded for Hellebuyck I would have already signed Hathaway and Gudas. And probably a C who could win draws and PK.
So say:
Hathaway and maybe Duchene
Signed Gudas instead of the other 2 and
Traded for Hellebuyck
Maybe are season is different at this point. I think it would be. |

roster freeze begins tonight and last until next thursday.
i dont think this affects the sabres.
murray is here on emergency, he can be sent down whenever they want. bryson is already gone.
they can also activate skinner (ltir activation is exempt), but they'd have to waive/demote. can't trade someone like comrie until the freeze ends. |

I like him too. I think he's a great coach for a developing team. His staff stinks but he hasn't shown he can raise the tide.
He had one piece to manage last year and that was all offense, all the time. Now that he needs to manage defense, which is marginally better I guess, the offense is horrendous.
and it's not even close to simple shooting regressions. it's whole, systematic regression.

If you think trading for 'a guy' is going to make a difference, it's not.
he talked yesterday and today about how they expend all of their energy in a win and play like they have nothing left the next game. they're still figuring that out, so he says.
Why. Why is a team that's loaded with young, prime talent, unable to learn how to marathon the season instead of full blown sprints, then rests?
Why are they only able to occasionally play 40-60 minutes?
Why are their offensive systems so ineffective?
Definitely not because we didn't trade for Brett Pesce and not sign Tomas Tatar.
The "fourth line" or what should just be called the Spare Parts line is an abomination that wasn't handled by this feckless GM, and combined with injuries, rode it all the way to (frank)ing Christmas.
With Quinn, Greenway and Skinner in, you have 4 lines doing something. And the Spare Parts Gang can (frank) off.

I lit a few prayer candles hoping he wouldn't. Should find out around 2.
Nothing would make me sicker than our sh1tbird of a GM jerking off in the preseason about Bryson's "great play" and doing this dance all over again. |

And by the way. I'm not opposed to making trades and/or acquiring better players.
I'm opposed to the notion that there's a trade out there that makes the Sabres a winning team on a remotely consistent basis. When they start winning, it'll be because there was some divine epiphany in the room, don and his staff are fired, or don finds a completely different philosophy to coach with.
I have no hope for all of it. |

they should trade him tonight so they don't need to Richard around when Skinner is ready. |

So bringing in better players during the offseason might not have changed some of the stuff happening. It's not all coaching! |
