Don't let the franchise's headline-generating class of rising young stars convince otherwise.
Buffalo was reforged through strategy, embracing fundamentals and a return to the basic principle of walk before you run -- or more aptly, lose (copiously) before you can win.
Yet, there was no scorched-Earth scenario. Rather, it was a pack of Sabres' veterans -- namely Kyle Okposo, Zemgus Girgensons, Jeff Skinner and Craig Anderson -- quietly nurturing the club's foundation with seeds waiting to bloom.
"Our veterans have gotten that room to the point where today, right now, the players know they should go out each night and know they're capable of winning. It's much different than before," head coach Don Granato told ESPN in September.

Is Adams still revolutionizing the sport of hockey?

Tomorrow has the possibility to bring with it an absolute embarrassment as there will undoubtedly be 15,000 leaf fans in the building. The question is whether the Sabres can at least keep it respectable on the ice |

Strangely enough this team has the capacity to come out and win 5-2 tomorrow
Either way it changes nothing

Hockey Reference shows the Sabres
- GF @ 94, with League Avg at 96
- GA @ 113, with League Avg at 96
-Sv% at.885 while League Avg = .899
I was told the goaltending is not a problem.
Never believe what you are told.
Also, at 5v5
- Sabres xGF of 65.9 while aGF at 70, while League Avg = 62
- Sabres xGA of 72.4 while aGA 78 and League Avg of 62
I'd say our D and G are holding us back moreso than the F.
The confusion is when tbwy compare to last year Sabres ...
Goal scoring is way way down and GA is down modestly.
I think they have alot of work to do, specifically on the PP and with the defensive side of the game to reduce scoring chances, especially those of the high danger variety.
Hmmmpf

Lot of Work! Maybe next year they will use the offseason, TC and preseason to try and work on it. They skipped this past off-season and TC |

Man lon! I thought they would have some problems here and there because of the way they built the Team. But I wasn't expecting this much stink, very weak mentality on this team. |

Getting the Quinn/Peterka duo back together is smart.
But what does he see with Joker/Power pairing? Why is RyJo not playing again? This is just getting silly. Wasn't Joker/Power our worst pairing since they've been put together again? - QuinnFan
You'd think bringing back the same team would mean you'd have a strong command the lineup, what works and doesn't.
On D, that starts with Dahlin + Samuelsson. They aren't good together. Joker/Power isn't good. EJ/Clifton isn't good.
It sucks. It's not even fun to rant about anymore.

It really does look like they have No grasp of anything at this point. They brought in some of the Best people in Analytics and they don't even use them, or they have No idea how to use the information that they give them. Seems to be No adaptability to there so Called plan. |

Someone said it these last few days.
They played an up-tempo system and couldn’t get any goaltending.
This year in an effort to get their goals against down they completely over corrected and now they are a mess.
They are finally getting healthy, and we know they have it in them to play good hockey, but at this point they have dug themselves in a nearly impossible hole to get out of.
I’ve watched the Broncos turn it around after a rough start, but Donnie Meatstick isn’t Sean Payton |

Don't think they over corrected, they just don't play it well. There PP has basically disappeared and they play to pretty and pass pass pass. They Don't go to the net or hard area's, that has nothing to do with Defense. And they don't use there Speed to Forecheck or put any puck pressure on in the Ozone. I see a Team that still plays sh!tty D and stopped not because of a system doing the things that worked and have done Nothing to improve there PP. |

I've come around on the fire Granato idea - not because I think this is his fault - but because this season is worth salvaging and it's the easiest way to get a bump.
I still think this team can win when they actually play how he wants them to, because they have beaten good teams, but they won't do that consistently and I guess that's at least somewhat his fault as well |

Apparently he is. At the HarborCenter, he finds that if he uses the Zamboni twice on a given ice surface, instead of the usual once, the ice looks shinier

If it's the same team as last year but they have regressed mightily; it has to be one of two things:
1) the new system that the coach(es) implemented sucks and should be fired or
2) the players suck and they can't adapt to the new system.
Pick 1.
Something has to give. Either change the coach(es) or change the players.
Pick 1.

Agreed.
Mentally fragile.
I don't believe this roster has the mental fortitude to win big. THAT ABSOLUTELY must be a major part of their evaluation process. Who are the guys to kick the others in their ass to get them playing better?
Cozens tried to speak up and was reprimanded for uttering the word soft. What a joke. Team needs many more of them to call each other out...who is our Alice Cooper?? No more Mr Nice Guy

And for Adams to do that to Cozens especially after he basically said the same last year and went and got Stillman to try and address it. And he got knocked the F@ck out. Even worse is he traded 1 of the only prospects in the system that plays aggressive and gritty to do it and possibly could have been that gritty Top 9 forward we need. |
