On top of drafting the same player over and over again, they failed to build a winning team. There is no solution here where the draft picks fix this roster. - washedup20

It's a group effort, Adams has the final say but he goes with his staff's suggestions.

I think Ventura gives him a list of evaluations and Adams has conversations and he makes the pick cause there's No variation in player basically. If it was a group effort there would be differences. |

Whatever the process is, the group has failed every year so far, the plan shows no team progression. Individual development is not an example of this plan working.
There is 0 cohesion and these players are all the same, with more coming up.
If that is considered intelligent to some, fantastic. Someone needs to hold the bag at the end of the day.

I agree, but IMO Adams should be holding that bag of Sh!t at the End. |

There is Nothing wrong with drafting as much High end talent you can. But if your plan is to build a team basically from all internal assets, you better have those Gritty in your face players already on your Team or very close in your System. Or change up your draft strategy and draft a few Higher up then the 4th or 5th rnd. The Sabres don't have that, and Adams doesn't seem to either see that or he just Loves all the Midgets he drafted and won't use the plethora of assets he has to bring that in. |

Two players will need to be moved by next Thursday.
Certainly 1 goalie and 1 forward.
I can't tell whether that Olofsson or Jost. I'll guess Jost. His saving grace is his ability to play all positions. |

They have to abandon the 3 goalie thing right? Right??? Right????!?!
It won't be olofsson. I've joked about it being Robinson getting waived but I can see it happening. He makes less than jost and as you mentioned, versatility or something |

Ability to suck at both forward positions.
At least Olofsson can get hot for periods.
Jost shows up one game a year. And that game was spent early in the year. |

They are part of the staff that failed this season. They are part of the problem, his post just shows how dumb people are and will blindly follow potential regardless of results. - washedup20
Disagree.
Adams' Plan was through the Draft Develop mode. TheDraft picks have been pretty frigging solid, especially if one takes the " how do they fit, how can they promte all of them / they all are the same" blinders off and look at them merely as assets...some are used for the roster, some are used to acquire missing pieces and parts. The Analytics Dept is direcly tied into that select process.
Now, as for acquiring NHL talent, I submitt that the Analytics guys have ID'd suitable talent/skills/player styles, yet KA inexplicably has not pulled the trigger, and poorly decided to run it back rather than to swing at improvements. That has also screwed Granto with a sub optimal roster especially on the bottom half of the lineup at F and D positions.
Those are decisions in spite of input from the Analytics guys...IMO. |

So this is a Question for the Younger Crowd ?
So I talk about Leadership on here a bit and having the right kind of Leadership to lead a Young Team. I believe are Leadership Blows and have No Experience to lead a Young Team into the next stage of Development to becoming a Team. Don't want to hear about EJ or Clifton because if they where any kind of Leaders they would have been standing next to Okposo after the Columbus game. So you Young kids would you rather learn from say a Maroon or Palat who have been there and can show you what it takes to get there. Or Okposo and Girgensons who can barely lead you out of the Men's Bathroom without Girgensons tripping over the Door Stop. |

Let's define what most good GM's mean when they point to the need for experienced vets to lead a young team:
Experienced Vets - those who have experienced winning at the highest level and have been an integral part in that success, not a passenger.
Palat would have been excellent as he was the gritty engine on the top line of a 2-time SC winning team that also played in a 3rd...he went through wars to get there. Kilorn would be another. Stamkos with Captain leadership experience for that same team would be excellent. |

I've made this argument all year, the league knowing he has a surplus of something devalues the assets, this is obvious. It gets worse when his plan fails and he needs to make a move...which is turning out to be the case.
Pretty frigging solid draft picks...please elaborate on that. I see a 2nd round pick outperforming all the 1st round picks, by a significant margin, how is that a plus for the scouting department?
Which players do you know that the analytic department provided to Adams and he didn't pull the trigger? This would be news to me. |

These analytic geniuses allowed adams to sign Erik johnson and Connor Clifton on top of bringing back a bunch if poop 4th liners
Awesome - ieetbred
That's the crux of things. Either they aren't as good as we hope they are or they just don't have much of an impact on their decisions.
I get the feeling Donnie domimates the NHL decisions (with a healthy dose of KA's fear of outsiders) and they split the draft decisions down the middle with the scouts.

All of the ones Kevy didn't trade for, lol.
Picks, this 2nd rounder outperforming all the 1sts? Love him, but that is a stretch
STELLAR: Power, Quinn, JJP, Benson, Kulich
EXCELLENT: Johnson, Novikov
VERY GOOD: Savoie, Rosen
GOOD: Ostlund
Several of these 1st rounders have a longer development curve to be sure, doesn't mean they suck. Savoie got screwed by a stupid rule and some unfortunate injuries, Rosen is physically immature but developing his game and strength rather nicely. Quinn was better before a serious injury, Benson is among the best players on the team at 18, Kulich is 19 and showing terrific signs...just needs to learn the D side of the game so he doesn't turn into The Void - II.
I very much disagree on devaluing due to a strong pipeline...having these guys become NHL ready only serves to increase their value.

I think people are really sleeping on Ostlund. He may already have the most polished 200 foot game out of he. Savoie, or Kulich already.
Two goals in two pre tourney games for Sweden already.
His play at the SHL hasn’t been great, but hasn’t been bad, but given the team he plays on and the strength of the league he’s doing just fine for his age.
I think we hit home runs with all three of those picks tbh with you |

Why are you are giving credit to Adams staff for suggesting players (that you don't know for a fact they suggested) that their boss ignored?
Unique rating chart for sure.
Time will tell if the return is worth the time spent on development. At this point, what do you see happening that improves the team, and how long does that plan take to execute and we see results?

Just curious, what is a home run for a guy picked in the top half of the first round? Gotta be a good top line player, right?
