I'm still trying to figure out what RT has seen in Suter since his return to move him up the line up. He's looked tired and hesitant so far. - boonerbuck
Looks rusty & very so so. Needs some more time to get up to speed & to pot some goals. Sluggish |

He and Pettersson do so many things similarly on the defensive side of the puck, they both block shots and generate takeaways. Petey finished slightly above him in Selke voting last year I believe.
I feel like Petey has the advantage in hockey IQ, and if he were stapled to a player of Marner's caliber for years, we'd be talking about the 2 being a lot more even, though Matthews will always be the better goal scorer no question.
I just find the comparison interesting, there's a lot more that lines up between the 2 than you might think. - NorthNuck
Once Matthews joined the Leafs they instantly got better. He was flying outta the gate as a #1 C.
Wingers shouldn’t be making a C great it’s the other way around if truly a 1C. |

Wasn't he playing with Marner immediately? They had the same rookie year.
69 points in 82 games is more of a 2C level production no? Petey had a higher ppg average in his rookie year. |

Never good enough seeing they can play better in both games. That said it is the process & 3 outta 4.
Still say top 2 lines aren’t quite themselves & the 3rd line is driving the bus. - Nighthawk
I was being sarcastic. |

A horrible team overnight got better. MM benefits from AM to the tune of 11m/year. Never a fan of paying wingers like a top C. Win a cup sure but never before.
69pts pretty good considering he changed the Leafs overnight. |

I was not complaining either. If Hughes got to sit for a bit it is not a big deal. RT sat Miller and this is no different. He holds everyone accountable.
Yup Foligno is a big boy. We won and that is what matters. I need to go now and check and see if that was an expected win. - VANTEL
Hughes was not benched. The explanation is simple. If Shorty hadnt of said anything... no one would have noticed the 30 seconds of ice time Hughes missed.
Can 30 seconds really be called a benching? How is it comparable to Miller's benching? Miller needed to be cooled off after putting the team down 4min and refusing to shut his mouth. I'm still trying to figure out why you think Hughes was benched....

The Canucks were horrible too and Pettersson was on pace to outproduce Matthews in his rookie year. There's absolutely no way to argue Petey has had the advantage in quality of linemates throughout their careers. |

I agree. He needs some time.... not sure giving him 18-19 min is the answer but hey, I'm not a coach.

W’s matter most.
Who can be shut down the easiest between AM & EP? That’s the decider. |

👍
Top lines struggling a bit probably why more TOI. Looking at the process & how the Canucks build on the great start. More cohesion be nice. Top 6 dictate again. |

When or if that top 3D is gotten will make us a legit contender. Other option is the roster fires on all cylinders & it’ll be very interesting.
It’s apparent to me many players are feeling the schedule & the grind. Great lessons learned. |

Outscored Matthews last season.... has more points than him this season. Petey is more than a ppg in the playoffs... Matthews not even close. It's only in the last year that Matthews has been considered responsible defensively where as Petey has been considered that his whole career.

PO’s is a whole new level. Often top players checked down. Poor roster build for the PO’s. Tending meh.
Both teams are lethal at scoring but isn’t enough on its own come the PO’s. Warriors win & out work ops. |

Over their careers, Matthews and Petey almost have the same ppg. .13 edge to Matthews.... Petey has been on a very underwhelming team over those years compared to Matthews.
I do think Matthews is a step above Petey... but the step is smaller than some think. |

I agree & why Petey isn’t worth franchise player money. Sure he’ll get a ton but it has to fit into the cap to allow for other contracts. |

Points always obscure what has actually happened in a game 😝 |
