look at the stats for the other 2 goalies, not all that great either. there's more to them than numbers, just fed up about hearing how Allen is so bad when he's not. whatever. - Pat1993
it's not that he is bad Pat, but with that contract he is not tradable. otherwise he would have be gone before the freeze. Habs will have to add a pick or keep their 3 goalies. |

I'm not even arguing he's easy to trade either, there are cap implications, I get all that.
I still don't think they need to add a pick though, salary retention would be way smarter. |

Dougie Hamilton out until the playoffs (classic).
Gives New Jersey around 9M of cap space to add players for a playoffs push. They need a goalie.
Sounds like a good fit. - Scabeh
FML.
Waste of a pool pick.

he's a good backup, a contender could want him for insurance but at 3.8M and with an other year next season.. mucho mucho difficilo. unless Habs take an even worse contract in return.

it would suck for Allen but I guess the worst case scenario for him would be to clear waivers and help out the Rocket, I think they're in need of better goaltending.

oh absolutely, but I doubt Hughes will do that. too much respect for the vet imo.
maybe they'll buy him out next summer?
Rocket just signed a vet goalie from Sweeden or Finland not sure. |

HEY LOOK AT ME!!!! MY NAME IS PAT AND I KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT WHAT A GOALIE IS!!! GREAT STATS!!! ONLY WISH WE HAD 3 LIKE HIM ON THE TEAM!!!!! - WaterBoy
What's the league average in save percentages in 2023?
That's right, it's .903 .
Allen is a fine NHL goaltender. Not great, not the ideal starter. He's just fine.

he's a very good backup. it's just that contenders usually don't have the capspace to pay 3.8M for a backup. |

which isn't a bad thing in the long run.
I think Hughes will somehow pull a rabbit out of his ass and find a trade that makes sense for both Allen and the habs.

He is an OK back-up, if he plays 22-25 games max.
And your team is defensively strong.

that's great?
I'm not arguing Allen has been great either, but I don't think he was the main reason the habs lost in each of his losses, most of the time it's the team in front of him that shot itself in the foot, as it was the case for most of the team's losses this season.
but I have a very strange feeling this conversation isn't going anywhere... - Pat1993
You need your #1 goalie to win a couple here and there and steal a couple here and there. Heck, you need your #2 to also do that.

if he retains 50% he could have a chance. otherwise forget it. |

And now look at GAA
He's not even in the top 50 (50th is: Joel Hofer STL 23 11 3.14)
Not even sure at this point he could sign as a UFA |

An average goalie will not win much in the long run, but whatever.
They should just trade him.
Maybe he can land in a plumb easy job like Hill got with Vegas last year...

I do not see them retaining, as they only have 1 of those left, which they likely want to maximize at the trade deadline.
More likely they take back a contract. |
