Monty turned 27 a month ago, what's your point??
- fidopro

That he has worse career numbers than a journeyman back-up that no one would pick as their #1 goalie.

Monty is fine for a rebuilding team that is not trying to. win/make the playoffs, but he is not the answer.

I don't think he has one, really, he's just convinced Monty isn't worthy at all of the contract he got.

Montembeault would win the Vezina and Mashadar would still consider him an average backup.

Some people cannot adjust their views once they've put players in a set role.

That's the same mistake Bergevin made with Danault, thinking he's supposed to be a third line centre.

We will never ever have to worry about having that conversation.

His career numbers are worse than Lindgren... come on! I am not even making that poop up.

too early to say that imo. he is just as good as many who won the cup lately. we'll have the answer in a few years. I don't get the hate tbh.

don't tell me you think we should've held on to Lindgren because he's having a decent year now...
- Pat1993

Nope.

Hence the word surprise

you're comparing him to an older goalie who hasn't had decent NHL stats before this year. and I'm not making this up. come on!

Too early?

The guy is 27!

I get it. you are part of the "I feel he is better than he really is, so he must be better even though the career stats do not support it" crowd.

Whatever.

He is mediocre.

Move on.

(Like the Habs should do.)

In the last two years, Sam Montembeault has been a very good in our net. Every underlying numbers point to that. Even just watching him play with the good old "eye test" gives you a clue that he gives the team a chance to win almost every night.

His progression the last two years has been impressive. You're just too blind to see it.

yes too early. 27 is not old for a goalie. Monty never really had the role of a #1, we'll see how he can handle it. many goalies in the league become starter at that age. see Crawford in Chicago. very similar situation.

He is extremely good at mostly being somewhat average, with the occasional great game.

I agree.

Crawford was 24 when he became the starter, and has much better number from the start.

But sure, very similar...
