In this pre-tournament exhibition game, the idea to bring 5 righties and 2 lefties seems like not a great choice by Sweden on defence. |

Gotta stay strong defensively and take care of the middle of the ice. If you look back over the historical data regarding Goals Against, the teams that win the Stanley Cup are almost always in the top ten in the league in that category.
Here's 20 years worth of data, there are a few outliers in the East who win with offense but defense predominantly wins Championships.
2023 - Golden Knights 229 GA 8th best.
2022 - Avalanche 234 GA 7th best.
2021 - Lightning 147 GA 5th best. (56 game schedule)
2020 - Lightning 196 GA 6th best. (70 games Covid)
2019 - Blues 223 GA 6th best.
2018 - Capitals 239 GA 14th best.
2017 - Penguins 234 GA 15th best.
2016 - Penguins 203 GA 5th best.
2015 - Blackhawks 189 GA 1st best.
2014 - Kings 174 GA 1st best.
2013 - Blackhawks 102 GA 1st best. (48 game schedule)
2012 - Kings 179 GA 2nd best. (Canucks 4th 198 GA)
2011 - Bruins 195 GA 3rd best. (Canucks 1st 185 GA)
2010 - Blackhawks 209 GA 5th best.
2009 - Penguins 239 GA 15th best.
2008 - Red Wings 184 GA 1st best.
2007 - Ducks 208 GA 5th best.
2006 - Hurricanes 260 GA 14th best.
2005 - LOCKOUT...
2004 - Lightning 192 GA 8th best.
2003 - Devils 166 GA 1st best. - Pacificgem
Right and have you looked at where the Canucks currently are? As I said, stick to the gameplan were doing fine.

They're 49-28-2-7 vs Nashville
39-15-2-9 vs Columbus
16-8 vs STL in the playoffs
So you're wrong. No surprise there. - manvanfan
He is not too bright, be nice to him.

Now is the time to see if Canucks are for real or not. They have teased this fanbase for years now, with a 34 game season-ending runs, all while being all but mathematically eliminated.
Let's see if this brought can put together a FULL solid season and not revert back to the normal crappy play, they have treated us to for many years.

I was going to comment, and say, “losing so much eventually leads to winning, a Jim Benning story”…..but I think you captured it correctly. - Pacificgem

Ya Hextall loses and doesn't draft a core, moves on and completely blows it in Pitt... amazing he has a job tbh. oh wait, he doesn't. At least JB did one thing right, I think most have to admit at this point. That core is good. |

Kuzmenko getting press on duties again.i remember all the guzzling going on last year, over what a great contract that was.
Trade him and be happy if Canucks get a 3rd.

#Canucks lines at morning skate in Dallas
Mikheyev-Pettersson-Suter
Höglander-Miller-Boeser
Joshua-Blueger-Garland
Lafferty-Åman-Kuzmenko/Di Giuseppe (PDG looks like the extra)
Hughes-Hronek
Zadorov-Myers
Cole-Juulsen
Kuzmenko isn’t participating in PP drills so he may actually be the extra instead of PDG. Will confirm with Tocchet after skate

Great player to flip for a dman IMO. I think the team will continue to score without him and he has value after last year. Detroit has a lot of nice d prospects, we could have willinder and wallinder! |

Hard to say honestly. I could care less if they do or don't personally. They will have Soucy back at some time and I can't imagine having 8 NHL calibre D on the team. He isn't a huge liability on ice as what some fans think Tocchet thinks of him.
Canucks could use a top 6 forward that scores and has some more grit but the lines as is are playing well.
Unless someone comes with a knock your socks off deal, keep him as insurance until the summer. At that point with Podkolzin and Karlsson needing to clear waivers next season. Make room then. Wouldn't sell low because the need too isn't there. |

You take my comments too literally. I loved Hexy as a player, but I have no issues admitting as a GM he was a complete and utter failure. Unlike those who still sit in Benning's corner. I was just cheering Hexy on, to a fault, the truth is in the results though, and for him, there weren't many good results.
Sure they made some good picks under him, but much like any organization that's more a product of the scouting staff than the GM, past the first couple rounds. He missed badly on Nolan Patrick, just like Benning on Virtanen and Juolevi, which hurts an organization tremendously.
A bunch of the Flyers players were drafted under Hextall and they're having success with them, but much like the Canucks that's a product of the scouting staff and coaching, not Ron Hextall. The same goes for Jim Benning.
Sanheim, Hart, Cates, Konecny, Frost, Farabee & Ersson all drafted under him, but again, that's the scouting staff, not the GM. The Flyers didn't have two 5th overall picks and a 6th overall pick, they were more competitive than the Canucks. As I mentioned though, he completely whiffed on a 2nd overall lottery gift, which is 100% on him as that was his guy. |

Yes, at 39 goals someone will want the offense and not care too much about the defensive side if he's scoring. He could fetch a good dman. |

You seem to say this to a lot of people lately. I would suggest either brushing up on your writing skills or stop taking the trolling back so seriously.
No one cares anymore about Benning or Hextal. |

I'm just chucking the poop like you, lol, it's a slow day at the ranch here. Hexy and Benning were both idiots as GM's, they failed miserably. But you keep telling me how "Benning's core" will win a Cup soon. |

How about this...Flyers are in second in the Metro solidly in a playoff position with Hextall's "core".
Farabee, Frost, Konecny is half of their top six. Sanheim is a top pairing dman and both their starting goaltenders, Hart & Ersson, are Hextall's!! |

Frank Seravalli Believes that Nikita Zadorov could end up being a rental in Vancouver
Problem is that he may view himself in a different stratosphere contract wise than most of the league views him, which was the case in Calgary.
Predicts 4-4.5M a year and other reporters have suggested he is looking at a 6 year deal.
Yzerman has been straight (frank)ing the NHL for years now handing out 4 year 4.75 AVV deal to Ben Chariot, 3 year 3.4M deals to Jake Walman and Olli Maatta.
Radko Gudas 3 years 4M AAV at 33 years old.
Last couple years 3.5M has been the steady 3rd pairing guy. That number will now be starting with a 4 instead of a 3 it seems.
