Whats crazy to think about is Tuch is 27 and Thompson is 26, Skinner 31, Mittelstadt 25.
Tuch gonna be 28 next year and sure that is still relatively young and we have a young team but it takes Granato 4 years to "teach" whatever system he says he is teaching the window will start to close on some of these guys and time will start to catch up to them.
Time goes by quick, we are out of the playoffs this year and the clock is ticking on some of these guys. Are we gonna give the next coach 4 years too? Girgensons will have spent his entire career here never seeing the playoffs. Will that be Tage Thompson's story in a few more years?
When a team hires a coach in the off season there is no way in hell he is telling everyone hey i am gonna teach offense this year and then next year defense and then the year after that we put the two together.
That coach would never make it past the interview process.
Back to where I was going, Adams is going to have to do something to push this team over the edge of making the playoffs or its just another wasted season after season as the guys get older. - sabresfan69
Tage is the only one of those players signed by the current administration long term.
It’s time to start thinking of those players as the supporting cast.
Your core is Tage, Cozens, Benson, Quinn, Peterka, Kulich, Savoie |

So you are trading Mittelstadt away?
And your core includes unproven players. |

The $11mm and $8.5mm dmen aren't part of the core?
The goalie the GM wasted 2 NHL seasons for isn't part of the core?

Not to mention his core includes unproven players.
Who builds a core around a guy who played 4 minutes in the NHL? |

We were discussing the forwards.
Of course Power, Dahlin, Levi are apart of the core.

Until he signs on the dotted line, you have to be prepared for anything.
My dream scenario is Mitts getting signed long term and trading Skinner but we all know that contract is unmovable |

What's the better solution compared to going back to what worked last season?
Continue with the round peg in the square hole approach, trying to make a system that doesn't fit the Sabres best players work?
They were accomplishing a bottom 5 finish in the standings with whatever the hell system they were attempting to employ this season.
The system that got them to 90 points sounds much better in comparison. - kingcong39
On Dec 22, 2022 the Florida Panthers were 15-15-4 for 34 pts, having struggled to implement a new system under new coach Paul Maurice. Maurice was hired to install a new system that would translate to better results in the Playoffs. Maurice was ultimately very successful and guided the Panthers into the Stanley Cup Playoff Finals.
On Dec 22, 2023 the Buffalo Sabres are 14-17-3 for 31 pts while struggling to implement a new system theoritically designed to reduce Goals Against from 297 good for 27th in the league.
Eventually the team will need to learn how to play effective defense. |

Why would be come here? So he can ROR it?
He would be a great addition and the exact player this team needs but he lost his love for the game like ROR and he gonna come to a loser? |

Ror took his lost love of the game to St. Louis a won a cup
They had never won the cup prior

Probably upl, should be Levi again
Levi I believe is 6-5 for the season, not great, but not terrible for a rookie either
