Expected goals were 3 to 1.5 for the Sabres at 5v5.

Because he made some really good saves when they needed him. Yes that overtime goal was bad but he made some tough saves in the 1st and 2nd period. Stop calling out your goalie, when you leave 2 guys in front. Don't call out your goalie when it's a 3on1 and he makes the 1st stop but no one skates hard back so it's basically a Tap in goal. Start blaming the Team that sucks A$$ in front of them.

I agree they will need to collectively play better defence as the year goes on, but Shesterkin outplayed UPL last night and that was the difference.

Their top 9 now that the forward corps is healthy is legit.

Like 39 said, they need another horse on the backend to properly slot in Samuelsson in a role more suitable for him.

The only thing keeping them from going on a run is the fact UPL came back down to Earth.

We definitely need a top 4.

RJ and Samuelsson are not the answer. They are great 5-6 but we need 4 good defensemen. RJ might be a top 4 but it will take 2-3 years. Even a stop gap like Tanev would be ok.

So you think Sherkskin stops the 1st goal with 2 Rangers and Ryan Johnson fighting in front and for some reason EJohnson poke checking air in the slot giving a nice 2 step screen that he never 👀 or the 3on1 making a toe kick save, unfortunately the puck went to Zibs but if anyone hated skated back that goal doesn't happen. With the acquisition of a true 1st Pairing, and Power locking in the 2nd pairing with say R. Johnson, then trading Sammy is the logical move IMO. Joker is also likely to price himself out as a 3RhD.

A trade package of say Mitts and Joker, or Mitts and Sammy should be able to pull in a hell of a player.

Samuelsson is off, but instead of 23min a night give him 18 to 20 and see if he can find himself again. Guy blocks a ton of shots. LD is not a weak spot for the Sabres. Novikov is adjusting very nicely in Rochester.
Go make a solid offer on Andersson, there's Teams that have a surplus of D, just gotta be willing to go and get it.
