I wonder if someone will have a talk with Yzerman at the end of the season.
Millions wasted for the same results, so far, over 2 off-seasons.
Montreal is 1 point back with a game in hand at this point.
Canes and Red Wings are the ONLY 2 teams without a rookie on the main roster, and guess which one is "rebuilding"?

Lalonde needs to go will Yzerman have the balls to do what is necessary. Gallant should be hired immediately. This team needs this coach.

First, for you and the readers/contributors of this blog: Wishing you, ALL of you, a peaceful Christmas surrounded by Family & Friends.

Secondly, you encapsulated the current Wings status accurately, concisely. Lalonde’s lost the room. There’s no way he can regain that trust, in my opinion. Once a leader seemingly turns his back on his team in a manner such as Lalonde, getting it back is next to impossible. He can’t think on the fly, can’t or won’t adjust in-game, has serious issues playing to the strengths of his team. This isn’t the best team, by far. But they could be playing to a higher level, we see glimpses of what COULD be, but no sustained play that shuts down opponents and exploits their weaknesses. It’s inevitable that Lalonde is let go. Best to do it NOW, play guys looking for trades if possible, with a goal of SCPO WC… This is a good team for someone like Gallant, but there were several suggestions in a previous blog…. I’m not a NHL expert, but 30 years in the military, with diverse teams in harsh conditions gives SOME insight into team-building (again, NOT saying I’m an expert), leadership is leadership. This team has no leadership behind the bench and the cancer’s going to spread throughout the league; no one will want to come to Detroit if The Captain doesn’t take decisive action. Further, if The Captain doesn’t take action, he’s going to lose credibility…and THAT scares me more than anything. Desperate times in Hockeytown…

Second, your comment makes me think: I know we only have Kane through the season, would LOVE to have him longer term, great player and amazing personality, great in the room. He's someone to keep around. However, why would he want to stay in Detroit given sub-par coaching and the haphazard play on this team? He could be one of the straw that could stir the drink, but the status of the team could force him to leave at the first opening.....And I want to see him wearing 88 for a LONG time....

I really do like Gallant. As you look at where some of the best Dmen are coming from, it seems like there are some good coaches in Sweden and Germany is upping its game. We have a fairly strong Swedish contingent. I have to wonder if there is a hidden gem outside the current coaching carousel. That said, improvement has to come from somewhere. Addressing a couple of other comments, is “Q” tainted in Babcockian fashion? Covering up for some pretty nasty stuff, and other headlines that went away fairly quickly that could easily be resurrected. I’d love to have Kane for as long as possible. He’s the most creative and fun player to watch since we lost Datsyuk.

Prime, I’m with you on this. The absolute worst thing Yzerman can do is to grow impatient and abandon the plan. Help is on the way but it’s not coming this year or next, but it’s coming. They have goalies in their pipeline, they have D , they have centers and they have playmakers. They are going to be a force, stick to the plan!
