This is where you'd tell someone they weren't part of the discussion and to mind their own business, perhaps you should shut the fuck up and listen to your own advise because you clearly don't have a clue what you're talking about. - Pacificgem

I'm still waiting for your claim that Virtanen was going to turn this franchise around and prove the haters wrong to play out since you are always right.
Badda bing....

I’m out, walking the dog, trying to type in my phone as he sniffs every goddamn tree on the path, anyway, you’re probably gonna have to wait a long time on the Virtanen thing. |

You're taking this out of context, every GM is trying to rebuild their franchise every year, that doesn't mean you're "rebuilding" in the context of trying to lose.
From the 2016 draft, he was hired May 2016 a month before the draft, until the 2020 draft, five drafts all together, Chayka had five 1st round picks, two 2nd round picks and 7 third round picks. In the past two years Bill Armstrong has had five 1st round picks, three 2nd round picks and six 3rd round picks, so he's accomplished in two years what took Chayka five. I'd say Bill Armstrong is performing an actual rebuild, not a re-tool. - Pacificgem
I don't think this is the case, actually.
I get what you mean on the draft picks thing, however it wasn't clear from your previous posts that that's what you meant. When you say "Chayka was never rebuilding" while at the time the term "rebuilding" was used all over the place in reference to the Coyotes, you can understand the confusion. |

When I say rebuilding, regarding Chayka vs Armstrong, I'm talking about a scorched earth rebuild. Strip it down to almost nothing. Chayka didn't do that, Armstrong did. That's my opinion, for what it's worth.
Rebuilding and scorched earth rebuilding are two different things. Sorry for the confusion. |

It feels like Sweden has been getting some home ice advantage.

Oh I know, but beyond the crowd being on their side, international hockey is called pretty neutrally |

Didn't watch the game, just a couple friends of Swedish heritage said they didn't deserve the win, then said something about a questionable major penalty against the Swiss. |

The Swiss ice back home has large round holes in it. Hypocrites.

Oh I think he was certainly trying to rebuild at points in the season, but he wasn't purposefully tanking a full season to do so. Kinda like Jim Benning, when he failed so bad he tried to acquire picks.
He was hired in May of 2016, his first year he was trying to be the smartest guy in the room with his fancy stats stuff. The Coyotes finished 3rd or 4th last in his first year but got the 7th overall pick, which he traded away at the draft for Derek Stepan & Antti Raanta, now tell me that's trying to rebuild, trading away the 7th overall pick. He wanted a #1 center and a starting goaltender.
2018 he once again pulled a Benning and failed at being competitive with Stepan and Raanta so they finished third last, they reached for Barrett Hayton at 5th overall. They traded away the 34th overall second round pick for Lawson Crouse & David Bolland, again, not a rebuild move, he was trying to be competitive.
2019 they had an 86 point season, progress, sort of, they finished 14th last. Not exactly rebuilding. 2020 they finished with 74 points trying to compete, again, another failed attempt at competing. 2021 he was fired!!
Nowhere in his history is he purposefully trying to do a rebuild. Sure, he's trying to rebuild or re-tool the team but it's not through the draft. Which is what I'm talking about. Bill Armstrong tanked, as in he tried to purposely be bad and collect as many high picks as he could, Chayka didn't do that. - Pacificgem
Then why did he trade for so many picks? Sure seems like a guy who was trying to build through the draft. Kind of seems a bit revisionist because you like what they are doing now to me, in reality Chayka sold assets for picks and tanked, not to mention thw quotes others have mentioned. He made terrible trades and draft picks, doesnt mean he wasnt trying to rebuild. |

They tanked... Lefty propped them up... they failed.... Lefty moved on... time passes.... Lefty rewrote his position.
Nothing to see here. Good post btw.

Canadian players play for the scouts and ego.... Euros play for national pride.
- boonerbuck
I got up before work and watched it. They caught a hot Goalie, a team looking to avenge a tough loss last year, and a tough break at the end. That's tournament Hockey. They've won 4 of the last 6 so it isn't like the bottom is falling out on Canadian Hockey. |

I don't see a major penalty assessed to the Swiss. There was a two minutes "slashing" call at the end that was kind of and kind of not a penalty. It was dumb by the Swiss player but in the end didn't make a difference. In overtime, it was a penalty.
The Swedes weren't dominate on the scoresheet but they surely deserved to win. |
