Classic playoff-type game.
Classic Marner playoff-type performance.
Interesting. - sokosteve
I think this is the difference in who I would "keep" if they had to choose one. Willy has been their best player in the playoffs for the majority of the past few seasons. Marner has struggled and consistently makes costly errors in the playoffs. Both are terrific players don't get me wrong. But if I'm playing Devils advocate and one had to go... |

I don't need to watch Keefes presser to know that every proclamation genius makes is stupid and going to age poorly.
But I'll still be here with my popcorn for the speech about mitch being abused and it being because everyone is angry or something. - joel878
LOL difference between Mitch and Nylander's +/- is 2, and that recently changed when Marner got back to playing with Matthews. It was the same thing last year. Mitch might be a - player without Matthews carrying the defensive load, but I am not sure about that.

+/- is suddenly a very relevant stat now that Willy is behind for the first time all year.
Marner having more giveaways and less takeaways than Willy is a very telling stat for me considering Marner is the defensive specialist and Willy is atrocious defensively every time he steps on the ice. But I suspect that stat will also have no importance whatsoever unless it switches the other way around and then it'll count for everything. |

Add Klingon, Muzzin and Murray to the cap space free-up this summer - Leafsmart
Luckily none of those are hurting the cap at the moment and will free up significant space at the TDL. Not a chance that Leafs move a top player unless the goalie situation puts them out of a playoff spot. With the cap expected to go up $10 to $15M in the next two seasons and JT's deal up at the same time as Marner's - it seems reasonable that both will remain with the Leafs. With the extra room from the cap plus JT getting much less, Leafs will be big game hunting in a couple of years.

Hold on. Your solution to fixing the team this year is trading a 120 point (pace) forward making 6.9 million? You really think Treliving has seen enough of that? - PlatosRepucklic
That's what makes it a great deal. Teams can get a guy that might get 100 points.....he's not getting 120. Lower cap hit so there is a premium attached to it. Rebuild the defense now, because in a year, the forwards will get a boost with Fraser Minten and possibly Easton Cowan on entry level deals. Leafs have nothing in the pipeline for Defensive prospects over 6' tall.

Ok, trade Willy now and big game hunt his ass in a couple years if they were better with him.

This year is starting to look like a write off. Defense is crap, goaltending isn't good. Too much money for the top 4 cap-wise. Poor coaching. A GM that's petrified to make a move. What a wasted opportunity. |

They will trade neither this year despite your idiotic hate for Nylander. It increases every time they lose. He was bad defensively tonight? Give yourself a shake FFS. Leafs allowed two goals - both on the PP and were unable to produce on their PP. Several bad Marner give aways on the PP and one of the worst penalties of the season with 4 minutes to go in a one goal game. Marner is a very good player, he's underperformed this season, Willy has not. It's simple. Your lack of logic in this matter is laughable. You have a differernt opinion than 20+ people in the room - but you are correct and those 20 are wrong.

Any year you're not making noise during Matthews prime is a waste. One of the best goal scorers of all time who happens to also be a great two way player. Shame about the D and goaltending. We'll see if they find a way to address it. |

Domi, Klingberg, Reaves, Bertuzzi, the Kampf extension (so (frank)ing bad).
Not really showing himself to be the GM you want making the Nylander/Marner decisions. |

21-22 97 pts in 72 games +23
22-23 99 pts in 80 games +18
23-24 38 pts in 34 games +3 ( projects to about 92 pts in 82 games and +7 )
Slight decrease, I would still take him off the first PP unit, give him a few shifts with Domi see if he can get him going. He's a point plus a game guy and a keeper. He makes more than he should but he's no Huberdeau!

Let me get this straight…
A playmaking winger gets more points playing WITH the best goal scorer in the game? How is that even possible???

Ok you finally get it. Matthews drives stats amd is by far our best player and best defensive forward. - jribout
Why are you dragging Matthews into this?
Matthews is fantastic what else is there to say?
They both get more pts playing with each other, because they’re both on the same level skill wise. |

He’s a minus (-) on the season.
I think Tre sees someone whose value will never be higher, and someone who’s demanding way too much money. Brad was brought in to change things. He’s not going to let an asset like Willy walk for nothing. Going into the playoffs with essentially the same lineup is insanity. So he’s going to trade him. Only the dumbest people think WN88 is worth north of 10M. Tre won’t do it. - Arctic_AARDVARK
2 - 1 = +1
Your buddy Mitch is whopping 2 better at +3. WOW!

Cause some idiot says Marner is MVP. Matthews gets his points playing with Willy or Mitch. Man they had to move Matthews back to Mitch so Mitch did not become irrelevant.
