Should look back at a few posts at the beginning of the season, pretty sure the D has been a problem from day (frank)ing one and for the past few years, and G questionable at best.
Team is too top heavy to address the issues on D or the G. Period.
If the are't trading anything of value (or high Cap hit) to fix the D or G then they're just wasting time with some of the most incredible players they have ever had.
The window isn't opening, it's closing.
Going for the Cup means change MUST happen. If it doesn't, window will close without any success and continued early playoff exits for 4 more years until Matty leaves.
GLG.
PS, Samsonov sucked balls last night more than the D. He's done doing anything of value in a Leafs jersey. He's gone full Campbell. Yeet his broken ass to the Marlies. Ride Jones and Hildeby until Woll is ready then take the best two of the three and pray. - underhill14

Think of how much we’re going to save when it comes to keeping Samsonov. Buy low as someone keeps posting |

Agree that you are full of poop
Talk about bad defense all you want,
Samsonov 15 games started 5 wins, 2 losses, 6 overtime losses, 2 did not finish, 377 shots against - about 25 shots per game (a little less perhaps because of the two games he did not finish and the fact that he stunk so bad that the games required overtime) GAA 3.94 SV% .862
Demko 25 games started 17 wins, 7 losses 1 did not finish 736 shots against for about 29.5 per game. GAA 2.46 SV% .916
There are better goalies in the NHL at the moment than Demko, there are none worse than Samsonov
Jack Campbell was allowed to stink out 5 starts before the Oilers removed him from the NHL roster, why the (frank) is this guy not gone?
Demonstrates the difference here. Statistically defense is not the issue it's the stinky goalie.

An injured Woll.
They have no one else they want to throw against the NHL offensive wolf and the price for even a poopty, yet NHL calibre, goalie for the leafs atm will be absurdly high. Other GMs would charge Treliving double for an NHL calibre guy right now. |

There are plenty of minimum wage goalies available. Average goaltending in those 15 starts would have resulted in more points IMO. Honestly I would be more comfortable with giving Jones 80% of the starts until Woll is back and go with Hildeby for the other 20%. Samsonov can't be trusted against even crap teams where the Leafs hold them to 20 shots or less.

I get what you’re saying but there’s a problem… a number of teams are in need to replace a NHL calibre guy which also drives the price up.
But with the Devils, Hurricanes and Oilers also poking around the goalie market, even the price for a replacement-level netminder is abnormally high right now.

Interesting.
Without a trade or picking up a UFA, Leafs could and should promote Hildeby. If the brass feels that is too risky, the Leafs could pick up an unsigned older goalie, two that come to mind are Halak - I believe he is 38 and unsigned. And Brian Elliott - also 38 and unsigned. Doubt any of those three options are worse than Samsonov and the cost is only hurting Samsonov's feelings. |

Halak would be interesting so long as he doesn’t expect the $1.5 mill he got last year. That’s one of the problems, someone like him is simply sitting on his hands to wait and see who offers him the most. At this point in his life the need for cash doesn’t exist so he’ll just wait it out. |

Bringing someone in means you’re almost certain to lose him or Jones to waivers when Woll is back. If it’s only 5 games or so, Hildeby should emerge pretty much unscathed and then you decide which two to run with. Big question is how long is Woll gone. If it’s 8 weeks total, that means about 14 more games |

Healthy scratch because of play that Dmntd didn’t like leading to Fantilli goal. Pontus now piloting the 4th line |

No just leaving 2/3s of the net open on Fantilli’s shot was on Sammy. Kampf’s play led to a 2-on-3 rush. Fantilli was forced wide and had a lot of open net to shoot at. |
