Oh, he can get from point a to point b, and uses his smarts to be positionally good...he just looks a little bit off balance or out of control. I am not knocking his hockey sense, hands, points or anything, just agreeing with some here that his stride looks awkward and off kilter.
His skating has stood out the last couple of games to me..it just has. I am not judging Brink by the one play, and yes, Frost has laid a couple of nice hits out lately. The play I was trying to describe seemed to show his stride and balance are not what we are used to seeing for an NHL'er, that is all my example was trying to convey.
FFS, he is playing in the NHL, and is a better player than I ever was, so I am not saying he is no good...just his skating and stride is not what you would want.

I'm more focused on functionality than appearance. He doesn't have a pretty stride and it looks choppy. However, he gets there and doesn't have an issue with keeping up with the play.

No, that's not true. The most recorded skating speed in the NHL among players. Is the 18-20 mph range. In that range, which is the average skating speed. Brink is in the 59 percentile. Which means he is above average. What it shows is that his average skating speed is above NHL average but that he lacks explosiveness to his skating and that high speed quick burst.
- MJL

NHL players skate between 12-20 MPH on average, with the fastest players reaching up around 25 MPH. I don't know what Bobby Brinks straight line skating speed is but I highly doubt amongst forwards he is in the 59th percentile. I would think he is below average amongst NHL forwards.

Hockey is majority stops and starts, if you can’t get going with the other players you will struggle to keep up. Brink gets around ok but he’s clearly not an average skater.

You should do yourself a favor and educate yourself on the facts. Players don't reach speeds of 25mph. By the way, the NHL player who recorded the highest fastest speed in the NHL in the 22/23 season, is a Flyer.

Thanks! Wow, this blows me away to think Brink can get up to 22 MPH, I wouldn't have believed it.

He clearly is an average skater and the statistical evidence points that out. As does his actual play on the ice.

I said around 25 MPH, Connor McDavid has reached 23.58 MPH this year alone. Nathan McKinnon, over 24 MPH!

If I'm not mistaken, there hasn't been a single player recorded at 25mph with this technology. So it is not true that the fastest players reach around 25 mph.

Each player has a chip sewn into the shoulder of their jersey. There are cameras in every arena that take 15 snapshots a second to record the data.

Attempting to dismiss facts that don't support your opinion with having to watch the games, is a fallacy. The Eagles don't have anything to do with this conversation. That is another fallacy.
- MJL
It's a fallacy to you because it was something you were wrong about (the Eagles I speak of). Just like everything you are wrong about which is plenty.

LOL. It's a fallacy because it has nothing to do with Brink or the Flyers. Is this an example of how you show that I'm wrong? In that case, nothing that I need to be concerned about. If you have to bring something into the conversation that is completely unrelated, how strong of a position do you have? Not very!

Canes probably have a better package to offer in terms of picks - prospects - NHL ready players.

Do not see the Leafs giving up any of their top 2/3 prospects.

Looking at the Leafs specifically. Im not sure they could do any deal for Hart. They are already 13.5 million in to LTIR, have a sparsity of picks, which would be in the late 20's at least if a 1st, and a pretty bare cupboard in terms of prospects I would accept for Hart.

Not that it’s a huge story, but Ciernak was injured for the Slovaks and has been replaced… his world jr’s are over…. 1a in 3 games.

Interesting that so far the top scorers in the WJC 20s are Petrovsky, 6th round pick by Minnesota, Brindley and undersized forward that was a 2nd round pick by Columbus and Celebrini, who will probably go number 1 in this draft. Quite a wide margin in draft spots. Good news is Gauthier is up their with the top scorers with 8 points so far, and I honestly don't think he has played that well yet in this tournament. A lot of shot attempts but in typical Flyers fashion, needs to get more shots on net.

I posted "around 25 MPH" and at the time I didn't even know about this site until MBFlyersFan posted it. So 24 MPH by McKinnon is not around 25 MPH?

When we are talking 10ths of seconds, then where do you draw the line as to what is "around" 25 MPH?

People talk about the Flyers goalie depth but honestly if you look at the top 4 goalies in their system (Hart, Ersson, Sandstrom and Paterson), only Hart and Ersson are good NHL goalies. The rest of the Flyers goalies in their system are prospects with a couple to several years of development in front of them; and two of those goalies are from Russia so who knows if and when they can even get over here. Because of this I think all this talk about trading Hart makes no sense. Plus historically goalies do not get as much back in a trade as positional players. I still believe the Flyers best option is to extend Hart and go into these next few rebuild years with well above average goaltending.

I'm sure MJL will be here shortly to straighten everything out. I mean, JD just posted, so you know MJL will be here shortly to correct everything that he says. I think JD should get a restraining order against that guy!

Nah ... truth be told, though I'm sure MJL doesn't like me much, I actually do like him. We are all Flyers fans in the end. It can be exhausting though, not going to lie.
