I posted "around 25 MPH" and at the time I didn't even know about this site until MBFlyersFan posted it. So 24 MPH by McKinnon is not around 25 MPH? - jd250
24.05 mph is around 24 mph, not around 25mph. Especially since no player to my knowledge has ever been recorded hitting 25mph. Has any other player in the NHL this season hit the 24mph mark? Last season, Ryan Poehling had the highest recorded skating speed in the league with 23 something.
With those facts known, is the statement that the fastest NHL players top speed is generally around 25 mph an accurate or an inaccurate statement? |

People talk about the Flyers goalie depth but honestly if you look at the top 4 goalies in their system (Hart, Ersson, Sandstrom and Paterson), only Hart and Ersson are good NHL goalies. The rest of the Flyers goalies in their system are prospects with a couple to several years of development in front of them; and two of those goalies are from Russia so who knows if and when they can even get over here. Because of this I think all this talk about trading Hart makes no sense. Plus historically goalies do not get as much back in a trade as positional players. I still believe the Flyers best option is to extend Hart and go into these next few rebuild years with well above average goaltending. - jd250
Not necessarily true. At what do you draw the line? If you give Hart 5 years, is Ersson, who has starter ability, and has shown that as a pro for 6 years, going to be happy being a back up with back up salary?
The depth of our goalies is not Sandstrom and Peterson. The depth is in what's coming. We have Hart, Ersson, Kolosov, Fedotov (if he ever comes over IIHF interference) , Bjarnason in the WHL and Zavragin ( 9gp, 6-1-2, 2SO, .945 SP, 1.63 GAA). We have a lot of goaltending talent in the pipeline, and Peterson and Sandstrom are not part of it. The Flyers have 3 goalies playing in Russia, but your paranoia over Russia is over the top.
Trading Hart for a huge package, running with Ersson, with Peterson/ Sandstrom as backup. Kolosov arrives in a few months, and he will be in NA next year. I can see more of swing this way as we fall out of the playoff picture. |

Nah ... truth be told, though I'm sure MJL doesn't like me much, I actually do like him. We are all Flyers fans in the end. It can be exhausting though, not going to lie. - jd250

Trading Hart for assets is the play in my opinion. They need to find a top line center and a #1 d man. Need more draft picks to do that. I also think Ersson can be a very good NHL starter.

Just like when one of ESPN's shows says something absurd about Philly sports. They don't really believe most of it. They just know Philly will respond with clicks, views and discussion on sports radio.

Just feel jd250 pushes as much as others do. I get what you are saying, but he just keeps coming back for more and poking the bear so to speak. |

I am at work so I have to listen on Sirius NHL channel. Xfinity won't let me stream NHL channel since it's not my home wifi.

One thing I am thankful for to start 2024 is that the Flyers are watchable again. No way I would have watched the first three games of this trip last year.

The games should be on ESPN+. NHL is so dumb most of the time.

I'm with you on your premise with the exception of I don't believe that Hart would command a huge package. When it comes down to it, Hart is just an average goalie. One could project that he would be better playing on a better team and I think that has some merit. Team play and goalie play is symbiotic but that subjective thought won't play into his trade value.

I also think the Flyers are probably better or at least as good defensively as some of the teams listed in the original post.

For what I attended my statement to imply, yes it was accurate. BTW, I read somewhere that Connor McDavid has been âclockedâ at 25.4 MPH at one point in his career. |

I respect MJL for his info, knowledge, stats and admitting his view has changed, like he has with Walker, when he sees he might not have been 100% right. I dislike the tact, the almost non stop one upping, and almost bullying of others one here. It kinda feels like your bigger brother having a go at you just because.
I respect jd250 for, well..he has a big heart. He means well, I guess, and seems to carry a positive outlook on most things. I dislike the homer attitude..it's like dealing with a Leaf or Canuck fan. The team can do no wrong kinda attitude. I think he does and says some things for a reaction, and goes off about somethings, like he is hoping it happens so he seems so much smarter than everyone else. He seems like the little brother trying to prove himself non-stop.
Good game going on right now between Canada and Czechia.

I do stir the pot, but I don't nitpick over things like 24 is not around 25 mph. That's what I mean. But I do it with good intention, to stimulate conversation and have a little fun. |

Iâm a huge Hart fan and on record as advocating for a long term contract. I love having a really good 1-2 punch in net for the next several years. That being said, if, if, if Hart can get the Flyers a legit, young and realistic (not a high draft pick or a blue chip prospect who has yet to play in the NHL) 1C or 1D then trade away. Unfortunately Hart is not gonna fetch that. Looking at the teams in dire need of a goalie: Nothing like that from Edmonton (although Halloway and Broberg together might be worth the risk); NJ ainât parting with Luke Hughes; Toronto? Donât see anything there that fits; perhaps if Buffalo is looking to really shake things up but I donât see them sending away any of their top 2 defenders for Hart nor Tage. Carolina? What would they offer? I just donât see it. We need to be careful about overvaluing Hart on the trade market and the Flyers MUST get the same certainty in return value as the team acquiring Hart would have. No gambles on players or picks that have never played in the NHL at this point. Late first rounders just wonât cut it. In my humble and honest opinion. |

No, it's not accurate. Since only one player has been clocked at barely over 24 mph for a short speed burst and on one occasion. While every other player in the league has not hit 24 mph even once. While zero players hit 24 mph all of last season.
Feel free to post the link to the information concerning McDavid. Even if he did, that still wouldn't make your statement accurate.

I never met MJL so I really don't know anything about him or any of you, and my default is always to like someone until they give me reason not to. I mean, MJL and I go back and forth but hey, he's a Flyers' fan just like me, plus he has that cool Darth Vader logo, so what's not to like in the grand scheme of things? I really try my best to not take anything on this forum personally, it's all in good fun. |
