In reality this is how it goes. You get a guy, he turns out and you run with him. Lots of teams have had success with young goalies. Cam Ward in Carolina. More recently Binnington with the Blues. You can't just wait for everyone to be a 300 game vet and THEN rely on them. So what if he has less than 40 starts? His play is what counts.

Hildeby is being brough in to back up Jones. Its the right move IMO. Whether he does well is yet to be determined, but I agree with the move.

Nothing to lose imo. He’ll get into a few games and it should help with his development. Nobody is putting pressure on him to be the saviour.

There's a middle ground. Woll could be the next Binnington/Ward, or he could be the next Patrick Lalime. Most successful teams now have a 1A/1B situation because bad goaltending can sink a great team. Counting on a reclamation project and a rookie to provide that doesn't leave any room for error, and that's exactly what's happening right now. I still think the Leafs are a contender based on their firepower, but they'll have to run and gun their way to a Cup unless Will does gonna Binnington/Ward type of run.

Hildeby is the smart move now. Trading for someone will cost assets and then you’ll lose him or Jones to waivers when Woll comes back. Now they can get a look at Hildeby and an even better look at Jones over the next month or so. If both flame out, then trade. Besides, having a goalie with a cool monster name always works out.

My friend, I’m 61, I’ve been watching the Leafs for over 50 years…….my patience is thin. Anyways……for me, I realize things will open up a bit in the summer when contracts expire! However. We can’t seriously fund four $10mil forwards AND put in a decent D and goalie. Secondly, I think this team has shown that this isn’t a cup year so for me, be bold!! Trade for assets to set yourself up for a serious run another year. Trade Willie. TJ’s contract is up, trade him. Get some assets back in the cupboard for deadline moves, on a year when you have a chance.
