The Leafs, are bringing in a 22yr old goalie to help them limp bye, until their goalie with less than 40 NHL games gets back from ankle injury, and carries them to the promised land!! Yeah ok. Let’s hope we get Willie signed to $10mil +++ so that we can continue this mess in goal and on Defence. Love Woll but you’re going to lay the season on this guys shoulders!!? And with the D and goal in the shape it is, continue to try and sign a $10mil forward. - Bullot
I bet you're a guy that unless it's a superstar like Matthews/bedard you'd rather sign "wily vets" all day instead of taking a chance on a young guy. Except you'd also point out to a young guy working out on another team as an example of someone the leafs should have drafted.
In reality this is how it goes. You get a guy, he turns out and you run with him. Lots of teams have had success with young goalies. Cam Ward in Carolina. More recently Binnington with the Blues. You can't just wait for everyone to be a 300 game vet and THEN rely on them. So what if he has less than 40 starts? His play is what counts.
Samsonov showed last season he was "meh" and yet you wanted him resigned and he's been Campbell garbage. I bet you were also one who thought Dubas should have guaranteed his starter in Campbell for the 5 million asking price at the time too.

Hildeby is being brough in to back up Jones. Its the right move IMO. Whether he does well is yet to be determined, but I agree with the move.

Nothing to lose imo. He’ll get into a few games and it should help with his development. Nobody is putting pressure on him to be the saviour. |

There's a middle ground. Woll could be the next Binnington/Ward, or he could be the next Patrick Lalime. Most successful teams now have a 1A/1B situation because bad goaltending can sink a great team. Counting on a reclamation project and a rookie to provide that doesn't leave any room for error, and that's exactly what's happening right now. I still think the Leafs are a contender based on their firepower, but they'll have to run and gun their way to a Cup unless Will does gonna Binnington/Ward type of run. |

Agree with this. There may be a few goalies of value shaking loose at the trade deadline and the Leafs and Oilers will probably be buyers. Jones is not a top tier goalie by any stretch, but then again Adan Hill wasn't setting the world on fire until Vegas called him up last year.

I'd point out what a (frank)ing obsessed child you are and also that hockeybuzz is officially your entire life and that's super pathetic, but it's 5 star entertainment, I'm here for it and don't want to kill it.

Hildeby is the smart move now. Trading for someone will cost assets and then you’ll lose him or Jones to waivers when Woll comes back. Now they can get a look at Hildeby and an even better look at Jones over the next month or so. If both flame out, then trade. Besides, having a goalie with a cool monster name always works out. |

I told you I find it amusing. I have to be careful. I do not want you complaining to me over PMs then crying about it when I call you out about it.
I gotta admit you have come a long way. I mean you finally have a full time job, and no longer need to couch surf in Whistler banging snow cougars.

do you pay $10 for a $1 chocolate bar when you know you can get it for $1?
patience required. - dmnted
My friend, I’m 61, I’ve been watching the Leafs for over 50 years…….my patience is thin. Anyways……for me, I realize things will open up a bit in the summer when contracts expire! However. We can’t seriously fund four $10mil forwards AND put in a decent D and goalie. Secondly, I think this team has shown that this isn’t a cup year so for me, be bold!! Trade for assets to set yourself up for a serious run another year. Trade Willie. TJ’s contract is up, trade him. Get some assets back in the cupboard for deadline moves, on a year when you have a chance. |
