Haha...it's always comical to get a rise out of over-agressive Toronto goofs. Matthews miiiiiiight be top 20, but he's certainly not top 10. You'll never win with Matthews, and none of you admit that, so....You'll never win.
It also doesn't help that your team captain has the personality of a raw potato. Who's going to follow THAT guy? Lol

Happy New Year, Aaron!!!

Happy new year man! What did you do for yours?

I spent mine with my closest family. I got to show my kids the fun stuff to do as a dad as well as reminisce with my dad about New years eve when I was a kid. Did you have family over or visit your parents?

Leafs have 14 players who might “walk for nothing” this summer. For each player, Tre has to assess what they can bring back versus the contribution they can make here while factoring the prospect and cost of resigning them.

And Willie for picks and prospects is the worst possible move. Again, I haven’t seen a credible Willie for Dman proposal that actually helps.

I agree with you here. I think Willy is an own rental for the most part. I would be shocked if the leafs front office wants to retool and trade him at the deadline in hopes a guy comes in and contributes the same amount/level in a different position.

The ironic part about some of the people offering to trade Nylander also consider him a 10 million dollar player on his next deal. Should the leafs pay it with all their current contracts? Probably not but that would mean Nylander is a 10 million dollar player playing for 30% less. Leafs would be foolish to toss that value aside. Find the cap space another way for an impact trade.

No, trade him because they’re going to lose him for nothing.

Willy has shown he’s willing to let things get messy. Tre isn’t going to let anyone bully him. He’s a businessman first, and he sees a huge asset thats only going to depreciate in value. Leafs will be fine without Willy, but they won’t be okay if they let him walk for nothing.

Own rental costs you $7M in cap space till the end of the year. Trading him gives you cap space immediately. Trading him now gives you either a good defenseman, or a first rounder and a prospect. You get tangible assets plus the cap space for the rest of this year and probably $11M of space next year, if you hadn't signed him. This year looks like it's going sideways. There just isn't enough quality defensive depth on this roster and not a lot to trade away to get some. A step back for one year and then go shopping on July 1st. Keep your first rounder and keep the tangible assets from a Willy trade.

Gonna leave it be because I'm becoming more convinced all the time that you definitely have a diagnosis and are actually special needs. Shouldn't be messing with the challenged.

You know you can use up that cap with someone like a jack campbell right? No guarantee in the player you're getting in return. But hey...you keep trying for some dynasty. Dont be a greedy fan. Just hope they win one now.

Hypothetical deal: Leafs sign Willy to a $10.5M deal for 8 years. Calgary signs Noah Hanifan for $7.5M for 8 years. The Leafs trade Nylander to Calgary for Hanifan and a 2nd rounder. Hanifan is 1 year younger than Nylander so it's basically a wash. So the trade gets you a defenseman in his prime, a top 4, plus a second rounder and saves you $3M on the Cap. Is this an equitable trade? Leafs give up goals, but get a defenseman that helps prevent more goals, plus a 2nd. Sounds like a fair trade for both teams. Leafs have $3M to move around for next year during free agency. Leafs can replace Willy with a free agent or a player like Fraser Minten steps in as a power forward on the wing next year. Maybe he's another Matthew Knies. Are the Leafs better off after this calculation?

Being 66 and seeing the Leafs win it when I was 9 years old, I've been down this rabbit hole with the Leafs quite a few times. 75 - 79 was a very good team, just not as good as the Habs back then or as tough as the Flyers.

The 80's sucked playing in the Western Conference, but those .500 teams did win a few playoff rounds and kept it exciting. The Chuck Norris Division gave us lots of war on ice back then. Very entertaining.

The early 90's brought us the Clark/Gilmour years, like the '70's teams, close but a player or two short and a blown call in Game 6 in L.A.

Late '90's, early 21st Century, the Sundin years. Some great character players and very good Pat Quinn teams. Close to the finals a couple of times, but again, fell short.

Now the Cap years and they can't get out of the first round for 20 years, save one victory in round 2 last year. This team had none of the characteristics of these other above teams. Sure, they're talented, but their coaching and drafting has been poor, since they drafted Nylander, Marner and Matthews. Outside of Rielly, they haven't been able to draft a top 4 defender. He was a Brian Burke draft pick and was taken 5th overall because he sustained a major knee injury in junior and the other 4 teams passed on him. Since then, nothing on the back end. The Swedish midgets took 2 first round picks that really never amounted to much. Sandin was small and injury prone, same as Lilijren. That was a flaw in Kyle Dubas and his analytics team. The team has suffered due to this theory. Leafs just need to reset the core and this is as good a year as any. They're not going to go far with this defense and goaltending. Trade Willy, get some draft capital, save cap space and move forward next year. All of the Robidas Island inmates get their parole at the end of the season. A lot of cap to be harvested there. Leafs need to get smart about this. It's just foolhardy to think that this team can get out of the first round this year. They're going to end up a wildcard team the way they're going.

I just hope that he eases in, wins a couple of games in January and then Woll returns and he gets to go back to the Marlies with the knowledge that his hard work got him to the NHL and he'll learn what it'll take to stay there. Just don't throw him to the wolves and wreck him by overplaying him in tough situations.

Fu*ck can you guys just get along? It's hockey talk, not honky tonk. If you really want to solve your issues, PM each other, or talk smack and Dozer will give you a holiday.

I sure hate these Western Road trips. Late night games on the West Coast. Play some funk of your own Amigo's. I guess Augello can stay up late and watch it for us. Used to listen to him on Twitter Spaces, then on YouTube. Not sure if he does post game analysis these days. The radio stations do a piss poor job of analysis of the post game. Miss the Andy Frost days.
