When someone is tying the puck up along the boards for more than 20 seconds, you should be allowed to slash their Achilles tendon with your skate blade. |

Canada needs to get back to the basics, Leafs too.
Start from the net out. Goalies, defence, offence.
Good coaching and playing a sound game structurally. That how you win hockey games.

Running it back again and again and again is obviously the best possible move. - mjones242
Nah, I wouldn’t run it back. I might consider letting Samsonov go, probably Klingberg. Unless things change, Bertuzzi can move and maybe you can get more for the $5M going to Brodie.
But I also wouldn’t move out one of the top scorers in the league for prospects and picks who may or may not pan out in 3 or 4 years when Matthews is playing out of his mind. If you can’t sign Nylander or get a top return for him, his $ is available next year. |

Happy new year man! What did you do for yours?
I spent mine with my closest family. I got to show my kids the fun stuff to do as a dad as well as reminisce with my dad about New years eve when I was a kid. Did you have family over or visit your parents? - Aaron_85

Yes.
Failing to win a third straight WJC is damning evidence of Canada’s obvious decline. |

So the same loser core if they dont win this year?
Nice!
Willie gets traded if/when the leafs get bounced in the playoffs. Letting him walk for nothing is completely stupid.
Tree will do a sign and trade.
If of course he doesnt sign to a reasonable contract. |

Other than Makar, whens the last time Canada developed an elite D or G?
America is pumping them out every year.
So bumhole, Canada needs to get back to developing goalies and defence. |

Watching CC cope with this fact is bizarre.
Normally he at least tries to be the reasonable one. Run it back and lose with this core again, then get nothing for an asset who’s at the absolute peak of his career.
Brilliant!
This is why you don’t get attached to individual players. |

There's no way Nylander gets traded in-season but, and to play Devil's Advocate, that doesn't mean that it's necessarily a terrible idea.
Trades aren't zero sum affairs - just because you're not getting the best player back doesn't mean it's not the right move to make.
Any deal would have to be a "hockey trade" where the Leafs get back something significant in return that can address team needs - namely, a stud defender who can play big, shutdown minutes. Any picks/prospects returned would only be necessary to try to create balance (e.g. Willie is likely the "best" player in the deal, so the dance partner would need to sweeten the pot).
Suffice it to say, this team is destined to "run it back" again with their Core 4 + Rielly. And it's a (frank)ing terrible idea and we all know it because history is more than likely to repeat itself. |

As a Canadian I hate when we lose internationally, but as a hockey fan I think it's good for the game to have more competition. Good on Czechia. |

Team Canada was not a favourite going into this tournament. It's USA's to lose. |

Got that Garmin bike radar light for Christmas. I always thought it was a pretty superfluous bell and whistle, but I don't want to ride without one now, especially in the poop. Strongly recommended. |
