1) Lambert shouldn’t have challenged that. It was never getting overturned and giving them a power play was never a good idea. 3-1 is hardly game over.

2) Turnover by Barzal was inexcusable. It was a “game” again. You have a chance to bring the puck up the ice out of the zone, you have to do that. You turn back into your own zone and then blindly pass the puck into the middle? That’s just straight up negligent.

Had a golden opportunity to make some ground on the teams around us last night and blew it. LV hasn’t been great lately, gotta find a way to get a point out of this game.

1) On the goalie interference challenge I totally agree. I posted immediately that it wouldn’t get overturned last night. Don’t know what the staff was thinking there.

2) That TO by Barzal was bad and after the game he owned it. He’s been better this year for sure but still tries to do too much individually which gets him in trouble.

3) I thought the game was pretty even all around. The difference was the mistakes the Isles made were in the back of their net and they didn’t capitalize on there chances and there were a lot.
I also will agree with what Hickey said last night, Thompson out played sOrOkin last might as well.

I do not fault Lane for the challenge. If they win the challenge, they are going into the intermission down 1 not 2. However, I can see everyone's point that the PK has not been good this year so why risk it.

There was contact, but in their interpretation, it did not impede Sorokin's ability to stop the puck. My interpretation is that it broke his concentration through contact. The only way to take the interpretation out of it is, if you state any contact with the goalie in the crease is interference. Otherwise, these refs are making subjective calls.

I just think sOrOkin had no play on the puck because he never sees it. The shot was high and he went down. Contact was minimal at best.

Watch both plays in motion and Getzel hits the Sabres goalie in the head and definitely interferes with him.

I get what you’re saying as far as the non goalie interference call but we’ve all seen goals called back for less.

That’s the way I saw it. I didn’t think it was getting turned over at all. He was barely in the paint at all.

Yeah I’m not sticking up for Lambert I just see his line of reasoning but it was more of a coin flip at best. For us it’s a huge risk due to our penalty kill being absolutely putrid.

This really is the issue. It's the lack of consistency. My take was that the call could have gone either way. The fact is the Vegas player does briefly make contact with Sorokins mask while his skates were in the blue just prior to the puck going in. If they had called it, it might have felt ticky-tac but wouldn't have been completely wrong. I don't blame Lambert for the challenge since he likely realized this was the pivotal moment of the game (and was right)

Honestly in most cases I’m like flip a coin because I have seen crazy calls as far as goalie interference but I thought that was a good goal right away.

Lane Lambert still thinks third Vegas goal - the one he challenged for Kolesar goalie interference - should not have counted. Said it was the right call to challenge.

I think he’s a great player but this is the definition of insanity…

I don't even think the contract is bad, in and of itself, but at some point they're going to have to get rid of one of those guys to get some defense and goaltending in the door.

Tavares will likely have to take a pay cut to stay in Toronto after next season, and I'm assuming he does, so it seems like there's a good chance Marner is the odd man out there at some point.

I can’t imagine them trading/not resigning Marner. I’m not even sure Nylander is an 11.5 million per year player. I think he’s great don’t get me wrong but that’s a high number imo.

Well an $11.5M player next season means a lot less than it does this year and in years past.

Good comparables, in terms of age and % of total cap hit at the time of signing, are Jamie Benn when he signed in 2016 at age 28 and was 13% of team cap hit and Corey Perry when he signed his 8x$8.6M deal that was a little bit higher than 13% of total team cap

Nylander's deal is 13% of next year's cap upper limit

Makes sense but I’m not sure it makes for the Leafs presently based on the teams past post season performance. 😆

He's having by far the best season of his career on pace for nearly 120pts this season. Of course he's in that age 27 sweat spot where his numbers will likely peak. That would trim their cap space to about 21m next season with Bertuzzi, Brodie, Domi and a few others still left unsigned. Plus, I guess this guarantee's they'll remain 'on the cheap' at goaltender.

Yeah $21M and they only have 8 forwards and 3 defensemen signed

I honestly think they could potentially look to move on from Marner, unless they decide they have zero interest in re-signing Tavares. Marner's $11M in cap space plus Tavares taking a discounted deal would leave them plenty of money to take care of those needs.

Woll is under contract for one more year after this one with a cap hit under $800k and looked good earlier this season so I assume that's their plan going forward in net, through next season.

Two different GM’s with what seems like the same model. Tough to trade nylander in season for a team playing for the cup and you can’t lose him for nothing. Though the team will more then likely be in the same situation for the foreseeable future not investing much in goaltending and defense but I’m not sure what the alternative to what they did would be.

Which is why I think there's a real chance they could move Marner. They'd get a haul of assets plus $11M in cap space.

Here's your list of UFA defenseman that will be available summer of 2025

https://www.capfriendly.c...nse/ufa?stats-season=2024

Most notably, with age at the time of UFA in summer 2025:

- Hedman (34)
- Ekblad (29)
- Orlov (33)
- Slavin (31)
- Theodore (29)
- Chychrun (27)

Like I said I have a hard time believing they trade him but what you’re saying makes sense. Them signing nylander either confirms exactly that or if they keep Marner the plan is to continue doing the same thing expecting a different result. Tough situation for Treliving.

After thinking about it I guess either scenario wouldn’t shock me. 😂

Someone in the forward groups top 6 won’t be there next year that’s for sure. Probs Marner or JT. Man would that be fitting that JT has to go play somewhere else other than the team whose pajamas he wore to bed!
Could also be Marner as you said. This team needs to get some D men and Goaltending. I just don’t get how after years of underachieving in the PO’s they don’t get it. Defense wins.
