Yeah I’m not really sure what Lou’s hesitation is with firing lane. He has always had an itchy trigger finger when it comes to firing a coach. I still think he fires lane, team wins some games, maybe they make the playoffs but don’t go far. Then what? Do the same thing next season hoping for a miracle? Shocked some fans don’t have higher expectations for the team they cheer for. - Cptmjl
Pfft ... Lou isn't firing Lane! Oh, never mind. |

So much for my theory of Lou being done after the season. But my reverse jinx worked. Now we’ll find out if it’s the team or the coach. - streaks
It's the team. |

We’re gonna find out now at least.
This team was in 2nd place in a tough division 2 weeks ago and that was with so many blown leads, mostly due to the coach’s bullpoop decisions/strategies. You can’t say they are not a good team when they have their full lineup and guys like Martin, Bolduc in the press box. We were also much better when Mayfield was hurt. I’ll give Pelech sometime. |

It's on the players now. Teams have to be able to deal with injuries. It's part of sports.

Wow a coaching change?
Who woulda thunk it?
Is the timing right? Is the choice right? Just asking the top flight internet GM’s
For me. Love the choice. He will kick these guys in the ass and if they don’t play the right way they will know! |

I like the choice. Hopefully it works out. At least it will stop the coaching talk and put the pressure on the players and Lou.

Lamberts presser last night was a disaster and pushed him over the edge - Upstate_isles
I think this decision was in the works well prior to last night.
Overall, I really like the hire. It comes with risks, since Roy has been out of the NHL for a while now, but the potential rewards are off the chart. Having watched a firey character like Torts turn the Flyers around, I've constantly said to my daughter how I wish we had him. Roy brings a similar brand of attitude and accountability, while being able to mentor Sorokin a bit. Great move |

It was definitely in the works for a bit. I don’t think Lou wanted to go the interim coach route. He needed someone that could come in and right the ship right away.
I’m sure there were 3 or 4 candidates at least and took time to make the decision.
That said I love the choice.

The roster is an issue in terms of this team being able to win a Cup. Do you honestly think having Pierre and Palms on the 2nd line can help get this team to a Cup and not to mention with questions marks on the 3rd and 4th lines and defensive pairing? Islanders have shown good periods of play this year, but the combo of bad coaching and overall talent catches up with a team. If coaching is the slam dunk issue and only thing holding back the Islanders, why has Lou not made a move? Berube is available to hire. - ses111
He just did. I hope the timing is right |

I agree but when you say we need more and we aren't playing to our capabilities then you're pointing the finger at yourself |

Didn’t expect it at all as far as it being Roy but I like it. (frank) it give the guy another chance and see what he can do. It’ll be nice to have a guy with a some fire to kick the team in the arse they need it. Coaches are expendable if it doesn’t work out fire him it’s that easy. Wonder if he held out for a longer term commitment. |

Lane Lambert: "I don't feel the team is anywhere near where it can be or should be. We have some players on the team we clearly need more from."
Asked #Isles Lane Lambert about abundance of odd-man rushes Chicago got and he called it "Careless, careless play," and added Isles had a "lack of respect for the way the game should be played."
Whose fault is that lane? |

Lou says he's happy with the roster. If there are chances to improve, he will explore that. |
