I’m on a plane, again, but I wonder what McBaby’s point totals would be if adjusted to this era?

“NHL Adjusted Point Totals”

The Best Scoring Seasons in League History

In 1985-86, Wayne Gretzky scored an NHL record 215 points. The league averaged 21.1 points per game, making it one of the highest-scoring seasons in NHL history. If the statistics from other memorable scoring seasons are adjusted to the 1985-86 points-per-game standard and then extrapolated over 80 games, which was the length of the season in Gretzky’s record campaign, it not only helps put Gretzky’s dominance in perspective, it also sheds a light on some often overlooked efforts.

229 – Mario Lemieux, Pittsburgh Penguins, 1992-93
224 – Wayne Gretzky, Edmonton Oilers, 1983-84
222 – Mario Lemieux, Pittsburgh Penguins, 1988-89
220 – Mario Lemieux, Pittsburgh Penguins, 1995-96
215 – Wayne Gretzky, Edmonton Oilers, 1985-86

People around here don't take kindly to the suggestion that hockey was different back when goalies didn't know how to butterfly.

That implies players back then would have been fast enough to catch him. Or that he wouldn't have had a bodyguard on his line to kill anyone who messed with him.

"Adjusted", "expected"...
Why play the game and why bother watching when there's charts, graphs and numbers with decimals to explain this ice hockey phenomenon.

The butterfly style started in the 1960's. Lots of Goalies played it afterwards.

The evolution of the size of the equipment, and it's being tailored to the style, helps modern Goalies along with their size. But I can guarantee you that if you put a modern Goalie in that old equipment, they'd look like they weren't doing the butterfly properly. Goaltending was a much tougher position back then.

No this is great for people that like to use fantasy stats as the measure of real life, I mean how can you not use made up metrics to determine how awesome or poorly a team or player is without made up fantasy totals.

I bet you’re wondering why the Avengers or some other superhero hasn’t come to save humanity from itself, fear not they are coming, just like expected or adjusted analytics has come to save the fantasy hockey fan,

Begs the question, in real life why doesn't the president's trophy winner, win the Stanley cup every season?

Boston was the best team last year, Florida was the better fantasy team.

Rick Dhaliwal believes the Canucks need to go and get a Top 6 winger for Miller & Boeser 👀

I'd like to see a bunch of Abbotsford players tried first. Podz, Bains, Karlsson, Dries, Nielsen. That's the point of the farm team.

If it was a bottom six player sure go to the farm but do you think Canucks have a top six player on the farm? Would be sort of a dumb thing to have a top six NHL skilled player playing on the farm while you clearly need that skill at the NHL level.

The answer is simple, because the game is fluid and every game is played within itself. Just because a team has the most goals, the most points they still have to play each game on it’s on merits and not rest solely on past victories.

I would like to hear what Dhaliwal considers a top 6 player, as I believe what the team needs on the 1st 2 lines is a player that is a bit abrasive, crashes the net and can pot 15 goals a season, could use a player like that on both the top 2 lines.
On the Miller line specifically, maybe someone who can be a bit of a puck distributor, as well as above mentioned. On the Pouty line, he needs someone better than 3rd liner Mikheyev
I am fine with them moving Lafferty, Hoglander, Suter and before injury, PDG in and out of those 2 lines.

Are you saying no player has ever come from the AHL and played in an NHL top 6?

One of the things PA said the other day about the prospects had me dissecting the phrasing. DPetey will be playing on the Abby Canucks at the end of the year and Makki will be coming over after his season. That had me thinking they are going to slot him in at top six and see if he is ready.

I didn't watch the game last night but heard even though they doubled the Sens it was sloppy. One thing that came to mind was the amount of games they played over the last 10 days and it was the holiday break so I give them a pass. This upcoming road trip is going to be a real eye test for the team.

Canucks have exceeded my expectations this year but now it is time for big boy hockey as teams start to make playoff pushes. I hope they do well.

So you are saying players have gone from the AHL to a top 6 NHL player.

and that some players should be tried
