It wasn’t too long ago people around these parts were making fun of Lekker, and Allvin for drafting him, not only was he one of the youngest kids in his draft, but he also was suffering with a case of mono, which takes about a year or more to get over. He’s looking like a solid, solid draft pick now. - Pacificgem
They were calling the kid a bust. Though it was the small scoring winger label that also was against him. The preferred type of pick being D or C. That is thing when you reach for position and overlook BPA then you get a Julevi instead lol. |

Yeah, I remember bringing up that he had mono and some acted like that was no excuse for poor play because "He got healthy months ago" - NorthNuck
Illness is the hidden injury that isn’t easy to grasp like concussions.
Anyway, look forward to seeing the kid help Abby this season for their playoff drive. That’s the plan according to PA. |

The kid hasn’t done anything yet, however, he looks to be a really solid prospect now, and he still only just turned 19 years old at the end of July. I recall Vantel going off and what a bust and terrible pick he was because Ray Ferraro‘s wife was a prominent figure in the drafting department |

Yes, I said there were some suspect moves going on, but I was at least optimistic because Benning was FINALLY gone, looks like you just need to be patient and let things playout as building isn't a sprint. |

Even saying that is kind of funny though, because the turnaround since hiring Allvin and Rutherford has been extremely fast. They inherited a perennial non-playoff team and have them looking like a playoff lock less than halfway into the season 2 years later. |

It's because they were more intelligent in adding to the good players accumulated by Benning with all his losing. They just needed someone who knew how to build properly, Benning wasn't that guy. He knew how to lose all the time but his ability to judge talent at the pro level was horrible.
If Rutherford and Allvin had to start from scratch this would be taking a lot longer than a quick year and a half turnaround. Unless you're an expansion franchise, every new GM starts with something to build on. |

Yeah, obviously inheriting Petey, Miller, Hughes, and Demko makes things a hell of a lot easier |

Finally an early game, 6PM AZ time. Blues are stuck in that muddy middle area, like the Flames, should be a "W" for the boys but that's why they play the games. |

When they came in they were as bad as the previous group. You forget they were giving up draft picks for sh1tty players and giving up draft picks to move out players like D1ckerson. Their first year in office they were terrible.
I still do think Ferraro's wife is a waste of a spot and very rarely hear from her. There was a lot of negative press about the Canucks back then and they made some moves just to quiet the noise and I still believe she was one of those moves.
I couldn't have cared less about the Likker selection back then but I did not make much noise about it because I don't follow the draft much for the last couple of years.

Quit mocking Vantel
Win now mode that was trade at the deadline last year. They were clearly right to do that. |
|
|
|
I recall many times, by many different people on here saying stuff like, the wjc isn't a good tournament to evaluate players, the wjc success doesn't ensure nhl success, etc.
I now see some of those same people overvalue some successes at this tournament.
BTW, I defended the Lekkerimaki pick, as he was BPA, in case anyone was thinking otherwise, I also suggested Elias, when it was Canucks turn to pick in the 3rd round. |

Anyone who was impressed with the first year is an idiot. Knowing some of you now for a few years now, it comes at no surprise that a few of you here were impressed with the first year.

Scouts says for most 19 year olds, there's very little correlation. If you were 17 and were awesome than there is.
It's more just the way he is playing compared to how he did last year. He has progressed quite a bit in parts of his game that needed work, that people are enjoying. |

Name one person who said WJC success means NHL success. I think we all learnt from Cody Hodgson it means squat.
If you are referring to my comment yesterday about Canucks will probably take a look at him in a top six spot at the end of the year, then you need to brush up on your comprehension skills. Take a look at him and playing well at WJC are miles apart in comparison. Not even close.
Take a look at him means Take a Look. It does not mean lock him in to a guaranteed
lock.
Other than my one comment I have never seen one person comment on Likker being a full time Canuck.
For the record I have watched the Swedes play 4 periods at the WJC and have not watched another minute of the tournament. That is how much I care about it. I watched the Canucks prospects and that is all I cared about. Couldn't give a flying fu ck if Sweden wins or not. |
