PWHL has a cool rule: if you score on the PK, your penalty ends.
Toronto did it tonight.
Classic risk/reward. - Atomic Wedgie
If one team is far better than the other team, it could be a bad rule. It would incentivize the better team to take penalties, and would demoralize the bad teams if they continue to get scored on with the extra man.
Not that I care, or that would ever happen. But I could see someone like Tkachuk take penalties up 5-1 in the 3rd. |

Absolutely! Most teams score at a much higher rate while short handed than playing even strength or even on the PP! |

If you had to put together a All-Elite Power Play unit using only players from the East, what would it look like?
Ducherov on the half-wall.
Matthews in the Stamkos/Ovi office and alternating as bumper.
I think those two are absolute locks. But who else to round out the 5-man unit?
Do you have 2-dmen like Hedman/Karlsson walking the line, or do you put a 4th forward back there?

The West may as well just have KHL teams in it for all I care about them. 😂 |

There is a lot of talent to choose from. Because Karlsson is not that great on the PP, I'd probably be choosing from Fox or Hedman (I'm a one D kinda guy - turns out chicks don't dig that). I'd be inclined to pick Fox for the additional mobility.
On the right side you're sort of choosing between Kucherov or Marner, and I like Kucherov's versatility in that he can kill you with the shot or pass.
On the left there are a number of great options - Panarin, Nylander, Marchand, Bratt, Kreider . . . I'd lean towards Panarin because he's creative, is another weapon for zone entry - he's basically a left side Marner for the PP.
At centre I'm taking Matthews out of pure bias, but there are great options - like Hughes, Stamkos, Aho, Zibanejad. Rinhart - and that guy, you know, Point.
I think for the 4th forward I'm taking Hughes because his speed, zone entry, creativity and passing would make him a lethal contributor.
If that mix had any downside it's that there's no large sized a-hole to park in the slot or crease - so maybe you need to swap out a Hughes with a Kreider type.

From the EAST!
McDavid, Hughes and MacKinnon haven't signed with the Leafs yet.

The goalie facing that unit should just lay down and give up.

JT got $11 mill 6 years ago and he’s only about a PPG as well. Nylander has been 80 or more points the last two years and is on pace for even more this year.
Contract values are setup for the prime years not the end. And yes, Nylander has been performing like a $11+ guy for three years now. The regular 100+P guys are now $13+ contracts minimum, so getting him for $11+ after a 100P season is a deal of a contract tbh that will be perfectly suit him once his talent begins to fade in 4-5 years. A point where it’s a safe bet his contract will no longer even be 10% of the cap. |
