PWHL has a cool rule: if you score on the PK, your penalty ends.

Toronto did it tonight.

Classic risk/reward.

Seems needlessly stupid.

If anything, penalties should always be served in their entirety.

Does the women's league put asses in seats yet, or is it gonna be a tax writeoff like the WNBA?

They aren’t against his talent, but he’s no third liner, his D simply isn’t good enough for that role. Wish he was a bit more of a net crashing, stir it up type like Bertuzzi tbh, if he was he could take on that role next year.

But he’s defensively weak, non net crasher who doesn’t hit the net with his shots at a good percentage. So if he is traded don’t expect much back.

This. Would love to see 2 goals on a PP. Imagine majors and 5 on 3 in their entirety. Could make for big swings in games.

300+ hours on the road/gravel bike last year, and an hour playing shinny on ice has me hobbling and wearing an ice pack today. I would enjoy a Maple Leafs victory ce soir.

Mark Walters, owner of the Dodgers, has apparently put big $ into it. Not sure if Ohtani will play. They’ve got some Canadian tv coverage of games and the streaming numbers are supposed to be pretty good (early days)

I think it depends on what they need from that third line. Holmberg is going to provide more defensive awareness, but less offensive flair and potentially fewer offensive opportunities.

Against LA, who is a vastly superior team to Anaheim, that Domi line was caved in badly all game long. Robertson was a culprit to some extent - lots of work but no result. You ever play hockey drunk? Like you do all sorts of crazy skating all over the place - you're working like a dog - but you accomplish nothing; you're always a beat behind or a step away. That was Robertson in his last few games.

Against Anaheim that Domi line was still marginally outplayed, but definitely less so and was more risk averse in its style with Holmberg on the left side.

I know SJ isn't really much better than Anaheim, but if you're gauging what Holmberg can bring to the table, he probably needs more than one game anyway.

I don’t know if puck management is the right term but that’s really been a problem for him, Domi and Bertuzzi. They’ve had trouble moving the puck from zone to zone, have lost or been late for puck battles and have turned pucks over at the worst time. The last two have improved and bring other benefits that Nickie doesn’t.

Oh I’m not trying to say that Holmberg is the 100% choice for this option but I do think he’s a bit closer to the style they’re looking for than Robertson is. As you said though it’s going to take a few more games for him to play to be certain of that.

As for the roles of the top and bottom six lines I wouldn’t be shocked if they went full blown offence with that heavily talented top 6 meaning they can throw the bottom six into more of a two way, safety to their on ice choices comes first (no drunken options for instance lol), but if there’s a safe chance go for it kind of thing.

To be fair it’s most likely I’m completely wrong and Robertson is back in the lineup at home lol…. Or… a rumour that hasn’t really popped up which surprises me, what if he’s part of a potential trade that’s on the cusp of happening?

No matter what it's too soon to say. At the initial launch of the league you can count on games being sold out (whether comp'd seats or just hype, it doesn't matter yet) - so there's no real determining the sustainable interest level yet.

I know that I, personally, likely won't watch. It's certainly not specific to their gender, but more to do with the fact that the calibre of hockey is just not where I'd like it to be. I can watch OHL games on my IPTV box or stream them - and I don't. I will watch the Memorial Cup or the World Juniors - because it's best on best - but when the calibre of hockey is just a bit lower, I know I lose interest. I mean I almost never watch the AHL or AHL playoffs - and that is better hockey than the PWHL.

I would think that the current PWHL attendance is probably not sustainable based on a lot of people being sort of like me - there's only so much time in a week to watch sports. It's going to hard to fit anything else in and still do what I need to do in order to adult successfully (or almost adequately as most who know me would say).

We'll see how it goes - and I do wish the league well - but it's going to be a tough sell.

I think Robertson has been ok defensively.

Its more probably aren't confident he will be able to be at a good enough level in playoff games at this stage of his development. We saw it with Liljregren too.

a 3rd liner addition is likely a guarantee and Holmberg is a decent backup option for injuries so give him a string of games with Domi and Jarnkrok.

Kind of how I’m seeing it too. Who has a better return atm as well? Keeping Holmberg around as the 13th kind of makes sense. He’s basically an all over the bottom two lines kind of guy.

Even if it’s a top 6 injury someone like Jarnkrok will get bumped and Holmberg will fit right into his spot on the third line.

Toronto sold out for season. They play at old MLG with 2600 seating capacity. Coyotes averaging about 4600/game. Their player salaries are about $80M. PWHL salaries probably under $2M/team.

Dodgers owner has deep pockets, as Blue Jays fans have seen, and is committed to this league.

JT got $11 mill 6 years ago and he’s only about a PPG as well. Nylander has been 80 or more points the last two years and is on pace for even more this year.

Contract values are setup for the prime years not the end. And yes, Nylander has been performing like a $11+ guy for three years now. The regular 100+P guys are now $13+ contracts minimum, so getting him for $11+ after a 100P season is a deal of a contract tbh that will be perfectly suit him once his talent begins to fade in 4-5 years. A point where it’s a safe bet his contract will no longer even be 10% of the cap.

- Dozzer

Nah, he has performed like a 11m player for half a season so far. He had a very good season last year and put up points like a $9-10 m player. Lots of comparables in that range. A point per game winger with questionable motivation and defensive awareness don't earn you 11 mil. I agree this year he is playing outstanding and has improved his consistency and defensive game(half a season). This will be his career year and will never match it again is my guess. Leafs will have a 80-90 point winger for the next few years and then likely a drop off over the last half of the contract. They really have little choice but to sign him and hope they win in the next 4 years. That is their window now. Fans will hate his new contract in a few years is my guess.

I hate the Leafs seem to get screwed on every contract these guys have had. This is the main reason why fans turn on the star players. The have squeezed every dime they can get and yet to have stepped up when it counts the most. My guess is Marner will have his career year next year and ask for 12m +

I miss the Clark, Gilmour, Roberts and Tucker years. They bled blue and white. Matthews, Marner and Nylander bleed green ($$$)
