Nah, he has performed like a 11m player for half a season so far. He had a very good season last year and put up points like a $9-10 m player. Lots of comparables in that range. A point per game winger with questionable motivation and defensive awareness don't earn you 11 mil. I agree this year he is playing outstanding and has improved his consistency and defensive game(half a season). This will be his career year and will never match it again is my guess. Leafs will have a 80-90 point winger for the next few years and then likely a drop off over the last half of the contract. They really have little choice but to sign him and hope they win in the next 4 years. That is their window now. Fans will hate his new contract in a few years is my guess.
I hate the Leafs seem to get screwed on every contract these guys have had. This is the main reason why fans turn on the star players. The have squeezed every dime they can get and yet to have stepped up when it counts the most. My guess is Marner will have his career year next year and ask for 12m +
I miss the Clark, Gilmour, Roberts and Tucker years. They bled blue and white. Matthews, Marner and Nylander bleed green ($$$) - rSole
Nylander was full value on his last contract. |

Won’t lie but I’ve taken a close look up to Pastrnak’s $11.25 mill contract
The 3 years leading up to the contract (Pastrnak = P and Nylander = N)
Year 3
P: 1PPG
N: 0.988PPG
Year 2:
P: 1.07PPG
N: 1.07PPG
Year 1:
P: 1.378PPG
N: 1.375PPG (currently)
He’s in the $11 mill range over three seasons now. The full time 100P guys are now at the $13+ mill range. |

I’ve never seen a fanbase begging management to overpay a guy like they are for Willy, lol.
Overpaying is bad. Overpaying based off 35 games is bad. Before this season the Leafs were probably comfortable paying him 9.5M. But now after 35 games you expect them to pay 11.5M?
Absolute bonkers, and that would be horrible cap management. |

The game is junk. The skills stuff is junkier. I just want to see the reaction in here when Matthews’ first pick in the draft is Boone Jenner - Canada Cup

He was absolute dog poop the first year of the contract and was decent the following 2 years. But I agree, the last 3 years of the contract he out performed the $$$. So overall it was a good contract for the Leafs. I can't see any way he outperforms $11m over the next 8 years though(if that is what he signs for) |

Only one player on Leafs worth 13 million. That is their clear cut best player Matthews.
No one else really worth $11 although the Nylander comparison to Pasternak in the 3 years before he signed his latest contract are interesting. That being said I am not sure he will put up Pasternak numbers in the future. |

Pasternak has been a better point producer and much better overall player than Nylander in every single year of their careers. Larger body of work and much better playoff performer. Nobody takes Nylander of Pasternak in any universe. He also signed in March of last year when he just proved he was a 60 goal scorer.
But we all already know he is getting 11m for 8 years. So lets just hope he can play at that level for the next 4 years at least.

I meant $11.5M 🤦🏻♂️
Allocating and extra 2M a year because of the way a guy played for 35 games? That’s too much. If he wants 11+ million he has every right to pursue it, on the open market. And the Leafs have every right to trade him to recoup any losses from him walking at the end of the season.
I’m starting to suspect that Willy’s camp leaked some poop (to Kyper or whoever) to try to speed things up, and hurry Tre into making a quick decision. If this is true, then I doubt Tre is too pleased with it. Because I haven’t heard a peep from him. Just last week there were rumours that the Leafs gave WN permission to speak to other teams.
Idk.. something’s amiss. |
