Cutter scores the most points in the tournament and people female dog because he didn't score enough goals or wasn't flashy enough.
He is also having a very solid season at BC but I guess that isn't good enough as well.
He was never going to be an elite player, probably an average to above average player.
Stop with the complaints.

Assists are assists. You're essentially saying the player that was voted the most outstanding player in the tournament was just a guy. Something doesn't add up.

Getting your shot blocked and it landing on a guys stick is a far cry from being labeled a playmaker |

Congratulations to Cutter Gauthier and Team USA for the WJC win!!! It was a fairly tight game but the US just started taking over in the 2nd half. Would have loved to see that Brindley kid in a Flyers jersey. That kid has some competitive jam.
On to today's game. I think all the warts on this team are starting to show. It's not looking too good lately. |

First of all, I didn't watch a single game. I have a few questions for you though. He played what, 6 games? He had 10 assists in those games. How was he not a playmaker? He led the tournament in scoring and was a +9. He was voted the most outstanding player in the tournament. How was he just a guy in the tournament for most of his tournament. Something doesn't add up. - MJL
maybe next year dont post on line all day and watch some hockey |

I don't want them to move the puck around on the PP. They can do that. I want them to score. To score, they need to shoot. I would tell Tippett to keep shooting. Eventually they're going to start going in. - MJL
thats false cliff. you hope they do |

Cutter did fine and will be fine. If anything the tourney showed that he can be a well rounded player on a winning team.
Tippet has the tools. I’m not trading him, especially if there are rumblings of moving TK. I think he will become a dominant power forward.
Im excited to watch Frost today and moving forward. I think the biggest knock on him is his body language. I’d love to see a big game from him today. |

don't see that at all, at least my definition of dominant/ |

I think he will. The guys on this team that seem to be scoring this year are TK, Farabee and Tippett. I think if you end up moving TK then Tippett will step up and fill some of that void. |

any lines for today posted anywhere? |

Eh, idk - once he hits his prime (see TK) we could have a pretty darn good player on our hands. Just my 2 cents |

not a given and TK is a much better player and more skilled than Tippet. I do not see Tippet being anything but a solid secondary player. Which is not a bad thing at all.
plus do you want to pay 6 million plus if those rumors are true for Owen? |

I don’t know if 6 million is guaranteed. If that’s where his camp starts the Flyer and Tippett could easily find a middle ground.
One thing I’m hoping Torts does (being coach and co-gm and all) is not only getting guys to buy into the system of play but also as a team to get players to take realistic deals so the front office has flexibility to make the team successful. If Tippett really wants term now (and I’m sure the flyers would want the same) he may not sniff 6 million yet. We will see.
TK is a better player right now. But I don’t think many were blown away by TK 4-5 years ago. He’s really broken out since then and went from middle six forward to a top line all-star. Part of that is the league changing around him, no reason we can’t hope and expect the same from Tip. I’ve seen more positive than negative from him since he’s been here. |

Watching the pregame show...with Bob Clarke. He looks so old, and his hair looks so weird..I get that he is old, but I haven't seen him in a while and was taken back by his appearance. |

While I agree that cutter is fine - this is a great example of completely ignoring the game in front of you and relying on stats from your laptop. You are not getting the full picture this way.
Why wouldn’t you want to see the highlights? You think you have all the answers from looking at the scoresheet. That’s why no one thinks you’ve ever laced a pair of skates up. If that doesn’t matter to you then you’re willfully ignoring evidence. |

thats not realistic. As a player I wouldn't.
TK at Tippets age was better imo.

There are certainly deals to be had that benefit both sides. Good leadership could make this happen. Players who don’t care about the franchise they play for or don’t care about team success certainly wouldn’t take a team friendly deal. Hopefully we can foster a culture where everyone’s on board with winning together. Again, we’ll see. |

there really is no such thing as team friendly deals for players his age. This is their chance to cash and I do not blame them at all. It's fantasy world imo.
Yeah a letang and Crosby may take a deal as at end of career. |

He has not earned 6 $ mil a year….I’d like a bridge deal. Two year 9 mil….by that time we will know full well what he is or isn’t. |

I watched all of the WJC games and many of his BC games. The thing is, he really isn't a playmaker. He is a good passer, and accurate. But he isnt creative like you would describe a playmaker. Cutter is good at finding the open guy when he is getting pressured. He isn't threading needles, he is just real good at finding the open guy. Honestly I think his results at the WJC are an outlier. I would have been much less surprised if his line was reversed. 10 goals 2 assists.
That being said, I am happy to see how he stayed with his game and found other ways to produce when his shot was kind of all over the place. As I said he draws a lot of attention and was able to beat the pressure and find open guys.
His shot is what will separate him from the pack though. I hope he gets that back in a groove. He has to stop missing the net so much. But its hard and a quick release.
Just my opinion

That’s a great point, all these posters think he’s turned into a playmaker… he didn’t a magically evolve into a playmaker, I wish someone had a highlight tape of his tournament, think there would be some minds changed. Obviously when you get all these guys together you kind of take on a role for the team, but he didn’t find those soft spots like he did previously. I don’t think he should be play center. His best asset is his shot, and I think that’s best served at wing. - ClaudeFather
He didn’t “turn in to a playmaker”. He broke out in this tournament refining his playmaking skills. Can’t always score goals and assists when one isn’t burying the puck is what good offensive players do. Yes in this international tournament with like 12 assists his playmaking ability clearly grew and were shown to be solid at this level and this bodes well for this young man’s development. Maybe he becomes a good center. Maybe he becomes a great winger. Who know? There’s no rule that says if he plays center as his primary position he still can’t play the bumper/circle on the PowerPlay or while rotating in the OZone. Everyone should just be juiced that one of the Flyers top prospects performed so well, won a gold medal and was recognized as a top offensive player. |
