Not just the Flyers. Some of those Avs-Wings series of 25 odd years ago were gold. Two ridiculously stacked teams full of gritty players who hated each other. Hockey was so much more intense in my memory from those times.
I dunno know though if those games felt more intense because I was much younger, or the games were more physical (which made them more intense?) or whether Flyers being relevant in those days gave everything an edge. Or maybe parts of all 3. - PT21
Yea, that was a great era of hockey. Seems like every team had a few villains. Couldn’t stand Rob Ray and Barnaby. It was always exciting. |

I believe Gauthier has a better shot off the rush, while JVR had great hands in close. I see more Jeff Carter, even if Gauthier cannot play center. Above average speed with wrist that can best a goalie from anywhere. - Trox88
If he turns into a Carter that would be great. I think he’ll be a top 6 player eventually. What keeps me up nights is whether or not MM will make it over here in a couple years. Really hope vlad the impaler doesn’t screw up our plans by sending him to a Siberian gulag |

I also say that the game back then had skill speed etc but also had an element of wrestling show to it. Villains, heroes, fights and brawls. It was crazy exciting and the rivalries were great. The game is more sanitized and with the cap, there’s full parity. Before there were say 10 contending teams and those games were must watch with stacked rosters. Intense. |

If Gauthier turns into Carter- I agree it would be great. In 6 seasons with the Flyers, Carter scored 29 goals or more in 4 ,yrs. I'm not worried about Michkov. Briere took the home run swing and I still believe it will work out in the end.
I'm curious what Denver Barkey can become. He has been tremendous this season and just keeps getting better. |

The last thing the flyers need is JVR 2.0.
I’ve heard CG has a bit of a mean streak so if that’s the case that’s a plus over JVR. - bird_dog_pa
When JVR was engaged in the game he was a really impactful player. Problem was his motor ran hot and cold and he didn’t really give the team anything else besides goal scoring. If they can develop the rest of Gauthier’s game and his mean streak, the Flyers will have a hell of a player. |

This is actually a good comparison, Gauthier reminds me a lot of Jeff Carter, play a similar game. |

I know those on here who hate Torts will not care, but I thought Torts' comments about Frost today were very revealing. He said he does not take pleasure in benching players but he feels it brings things to a head and starts a conversation and ultimately give the coaches a chance to help the player. He said Frost is a great kid who is very quiet and unassuming, and just was raised not to talk to coaches. However apparently after the benching last game they did talk and it went well. I know from experience you can't coach someone if they are not ready to listen. I thought Frost was obviously much more noticeable in this game, went to the dirty area of the ice for the first goal, and was a bit lucky on the PP assist, but I think he was shooting for a tip in by Couts which is why the puck went so far wide of the net. I really do hope Torts and Frost build a better relationship from this and Frost gets back to what he did last season at this time. The Flyers need his offense and playmaking. |

Please. He's a 4th line scrub who’ll never amount to anything. Because anyone knows exactly what he’ll be at this point. Stick to the narrative that if he’s not a first overall pick then he has no chance of being good! Haha |

Joking aside. I wasn’t aware he had been named top forward for the tourney. Good for him. We won’t have any idea what we have with him for a while but that’s good for his confidence. |

Speaking of amusing.

I think that’s 5 guys making over 10 mil for the leafs. How do they fill out the roster with 5 guys making 55 mil of an 84 mil cap? Maybe ship marner out? |

Tavares comes off the books next year I believe. Next season another piece meal blueline and may be make it to the 2nd round. That blue line is just brutal. They'll re sign Marner, IMO.

Tavares comes off the books after next year. So they’ll have both his and nylander 11 plus mil contracts on the books. They pay Reiley 7.5 mil which to me is silly. Paying him like a stud number one d when he’s not. For a long time I’ve said they’ve needed to flip a forward for a legit top pair dman. The patch work won’t get it done in the playoffs and now they will have even less money to build depth. Vegas showed last year that depth really helps in the playoffs. |

One of the funnest games I can remember is the Ottawa flyers brawl of 04. I really enjoyed that brand of hockey. I find it very sanitized now.
Also, loved at the end when laughts and tk were barking with Anderson. You could see tk repeatedly saying you’re a (frank)ing female genitalia. Haha - Hextall271
I was at that game in '04 and the building seemed to shake with everybody going crazy. That game still holds the NHL record for the most penalty minutes in a game. Everybody on the ice fought, including both goalies. Even Handzus was throwing punches.

That’s amazing that you were there. I remember it vividly and seeing how few players were left on the bench was hilarious. |

I think I could make the argument the Flyers have a better blue line. Leafs could be a playoff team that actually could need Walker and Seeler as a pairing. The Flyerss have 2 salary retention slots. Nah, just won't happen...... 😀 |
