Sure, for the players demand.
The lack of a vacuum is that the Tree doesn't have to sign off. In spite of demands he has many options and there are lots of ways to construct a team.
He's obviously decided, like Dubas, that this team can be a consistent contender with this kind of payroll structure.
My fingers are crossed. I'm a ticket holder ...I'm always all in. But I have my doubts that this is the best way to construct a consistent winner.
$33.5million to fill in about 16-17 roster spots next year is not ideal. - The Law
Yeah. The cap goes up 5mil or so next season.
Willy cap goes up 4.6 next season

I thought and said 6.9 cap was good. I had many 'discussions' here about it
Most didn't like it then
I don't like 11.5 based on every other player who signed who is comparable to nylander - senstroll
I respect your opinion. From my point of view Nylander - based on age and production right now has only three comparables in the NHL. Rantanen (27) $9.25M - near the end of a long term deal, Pastrnak (27) $11.25M just signed last year and Marner (26) also near the end of a $10.9M deal. I wouldn't include Panarin (32) better numbers and older or Kucherov (30) Better numbers older and has had injury issues. The last couple of years of an 8 yr deal might be painful, but the first six should be very good, if Willy stays healthy.

Fair points.
I myself don't see pasta as a comp. I'd take pasta 10 out of 10 times. Coming from a nylander fan.
Rantanen I can see. He signed for 11.35% of the cap
. Which would be 9.93mil of 87.5 cap.
Marner took too much when he signed. 10.9 was an overpayment. So yeah. Fair comp lol.

Re-signing him at $11M+ would be
I really think Treliving has a trick up his sleeve. Idk what it is, but it’s something big. - Arctic_AARDVARK
My source - Sign Willie and Trade Marner for Defense and secondary Scoring. |

One comment about the last 3 games.....it wasn't the NHL best that they were playing. LA is a great road team, but sh!t at home. The other 2 are looking at winning the draft lottery. I'm not taking nothing away from the Leafs, they played well on this road trip. It wasn't Vegas, Colorado and Dallas that they beat. - PrinceLH
Leafs seem to play with a great deal of confidence with Jones in net. There was no such confidence when Samsonov was in goal. The team played with a great deal of fear. The fear of allowing even a soft shot on net. That's on the goalie, not the defense. Samsonov allowed 4 goals on 11 shots vs. Columbus (also a lottery team) and were tied 4-4 despite about 32 shots on goal by the Leafs. It was one of the most putrid goaltending displays I've witnessed by a Leaf goalie in the past 25 years. The most important part of that was that it was not unique. Samsonov played at that same unacceptable level in most of his starts, including several wins. That's not on the defense.

I would also take Pasta over Willy. That said they are much closer this year. They are both heading into their prime years.
Agree that it is an overpayment, mostly because of the ridiculous hard cap. Would much rather overpay star players than plugs. And how much of an overpayment is it really? |

I think it's about time for the Leafs to move on from Robertson. Maybe send him to Ottawa for Shane Pinto and shore up the third line, once Pinto comes off his suspension. |

We frequently complain they down to their competition, the last two games they laid a beatdown on bottom feeders like everybody wants. |

I'm curious to what Tuesday has in store. Usually coming home from a Western road trip, you're usually out of sync. It will be a difficult game to play, emotionally.

Update for my bet with AA
My man Willy gains 2 points on Magic Mitch, now leading my 14 points. But lots of hockey left, and Marner will no doubt go on a points rampage.
PS I'd like my Redfin in a 1/2 oz or 3/8, either a natural pattern or white. |

LMFAO
I’m pretty sure it only comes in one size, and I know which colour pattern works best
You gotta take the middle treble hook off tho.

The worst thing about the potential Nylander signing is not knowing what could’ve been.
We’ll never know what Saros and Josi or maybe Heiskenen would look like. A well balanced, championship looking team.
As long as they continue to allocate too much money to the top 4 fwd’s, they’ll never win a cup. |

I am sure Willy signing would scare some because it could mean #DitchMitch.
Who knows maybe they put some feelers out to Mitch and are not liking what they are hearing. Also with JT coming off the books they will have lots of space should they chose to keep Mitch.
It is interesting McDavid comes off the books at the same time as those 2.
I suggested last year it might not be a bad idea to hold onto all our assets, sign Auston and Willy and then go all in in 2025. People thought it was dumb. |
