Karine Hains: In Hainsight: Monty’s Night The Canadiens beat the best team in the league in the shootout last night, but they never would have done without Montembeault’s brilliance.

tks Karine!

I wrote about that last week. they even talked about it on l'Antichambre last night .

Habs did change their defensive system a few games ago, no more man to man, now playing a zone defense like almost every other teams in the league. that will help them a lot going forward. they will be less tired, get injured less often, they will allow less SOG (not last night obviously), that will also help with the offense... finally! usually it takes a few weeks, a month at the most to settle it down and see some kind of stability.

same thing for the composition of the lines upfront. StLouis often talked about being in the right chair. well... the 4th line is NOT the right chair for Ylonen and Heineman. you want them to have a better chance to succeed? and indirectly give your team a better chance to succeed? play them in the right chair! which is top6 with Monahan. Anderson not on the top6 but with Gallagher and Dvorak or Evans. checkers with checkers. chess with chess. it took time and many injuries but we got there...

it's like coach StLouis saw the light recently, after 2 years. better late than sorry! I was very critical of him the past few months, I'm the first to give him props when I see good things.
btw, that also proves that I was right to be critical lol
it's not perfect yet but they're finally on the right path. that is an excellent news for Habs fans.

I watched it again this morning, Monty played a hell of a game lol

Habs have a 3-day off. They gotta trade Allen for the best even if it’s free.
The 3 roaming goalie gotta stop now. Monty is clearly the #1 and Primeau has shown some good

Quite sure t they are waiting near the deadline to trade him. He will cost less against the cap and they might get a bit more

If by a bit more, you mean retaining less of his contract.

Then yes..

its more about the cap and his cap hit, more than anything else. Saying that teams would get him for free is missing the whole point of the salary cap.

I still think they will have to retain some of his salary and I would be fine with that

If they trade Monahan, I dont think they need to retain anything on that guy to move him. Good C vet with a low cap hit.

so the 3 players max that you can retain $$ should not be a thing.

they also need to trade for a center.
Dach and Dvorak are done. Monahan about to get traded...
that leaves Suzuki and Evans.
unless they recall a kid
Allen and a dman for a center?

yeah, if they don't have any other options, Newhook is not a center imo. but since it's only to finish the season... why not

a backup goalie is not worth much.
an overpaid backup goalie even less.
GMs know what Allen can bring to their team, no need to showcase him.
if he is still in Mtl it's because HuGo didn't receive any offer. zip. nada. pas une câlisse.

Allen can be a good insurance policy when and if injuries happen

I mentionned LA even before their back up went down

he would be perfect for them

take a contract back or retain some of that cap hit. Its lesser now with a few months left to the season anyway

Scored last minute tickets in the reds for the game. Hadn’t been in quite a while (used to have access to 15-20 games per season years ago through my wife’s company but that ended in 2011).

A fun game from the stands (I’m sure it was less fun for the coaches). Certainly better than the last game I saw in person (a snoozer loss to the Devils). Was also happy to see some kids get ice time in OT. No way Struble gets that in the Therrien or Julien days.
