The things I miss about Hayes I hope I see it next week...

1) Somehow always finding a way to be involved in an offsides
2) Great puck possession for over 30 seconds just to lose it at the blue line and causing a breakaway

- Glak18

3) a look of total disinterest
4) skating so slow, you wonder if he is out smarting every other player or dying
5) his jokes
6) standing still on the power play and shooting it wide

What would you expect from an organization that drafts a kid in good faith, and that they have been touting as a big part of their future, only to have that draft pick refuse to sign with you and not offer you a reason why? You're damned right the Flyers have very visible rancor.

And what drama are you referring too? When has this happened several times a year, year after year? This is pure hyperbole.

- jd250

Off the top off my head:

1. Bobby Clarke, an unpaid advisor with apparently minimal input, ranting about Sanheim's pp time and Hextall live on air.
2. Keith Jones, a former 4th line player and broadcaster, being offered the President's job apparently with conditions attached that no one else would take.
3. Ellis, a trade that turns out to be too good to be true, actually turning out to be not true.
4. Season's ticket holders having some kind of showdown in a yearly meeting expressing deep discontentment.
5. Drafting a guy #2, endlessly having him just a few weeks away due to mystifying migraines that sound uncannily like post concussion syndrome, than essentially trading him for a bag of pucks, and have his career be on a lifeline due to post concussion symptoms.
6. A coach who refuses to dress to play a player in his hometown, in front of his entire family, to send a message.

I am leaving out a lot here ...

Another year of college is another year not earning an NHL salary.

You have absolutely no idea as to his mental makeup, so you should just stop with this nonsense. He said he didn't want to be a Flyer, and stood his ground. Doesn't sound weak minded to me. Maybe he sees his bigger picture as different from the Flyers bigger picture.

- TheFreak

Its OK if a young player has questions or concerns, but a normal person reaches out and gets answers before making a big decision like this. This kid out of the blue informs the team he is not interested in signing with them, gives them no explanation as to why and refuses to speak with them further!! I'm sorry, this is not standing your ground .. this is complete and utter disrespect. Again, when someone shows you who they are .. believe them.

The drama is over. Drysdale is wearing #9. Long live Pelle Eklund. I guess Provy isn't coming back next summer.

I have a different view. Cutter’s team was honest and the management confirmed that they were upfront and consistent about not wanting to play for the team. Cutter could have waited for his senior year and walked for nothing like Adam Fox.

While I don’t like him ghosting the team, at least his side gave the Flyers (and didn’t go public with their trade desires) to get value.

The Flyers management then kept quiet and got value here. And they were honest with their fans about what happened. They said they didn’t know why- and didn’t speculate. They didn’t say anything bad about the kid. In fact, they stated they wanted the player and thought he would be a good player in the league.

We haven’t heard Cutters side but I’d say both sides have been cordial about it all. It just sucks to feel rejected as a fan base, franchise, and city. Of course I haven’t lived in the Philly area for over 20 years but I still bleed orange and black and will boo the kid every opportunity I get.

Why mention the part about prolonged ghosting then? It's not relevant.

Bro, go outside. Most of these things are/were out of their control. And find me a sport franchise that has been right 100% of the time. Mountain out of a molehill buddy.

Ok, so say Gauthier was disappointed that the Flyers felt he needed another year developing at BC, knowing that the BC team last year was very bad and that this year they would have a chance at a final 4 appearance. Why is this a bad thing? What kind of person picks up his toys and goes home because things didn't work out exactly as he planned? I know one thing, this is not the type of weak minded person I want playing for my team.
- jd250

maybe one that was lied to or mislead.

it is indeed. What changed his mind to go down this drastic road?
- hello it's me 2050

1) surely he made it clear he wanted 1 year college
2) pissed briere didn’t sign him after year 1
3) add in move to center
4) Hayes etc in ear about dysfunction
5) sees torts (frank) over frost
6) dreads 2 years with torts
7) stops all communication
8)forced trade

They were asked about the timeline repeatedly. They wanted to be honest with the fan base. I appreciate the transparency. I’m guessing it is something that would make you list as a negative if it wasn’t present here.

John Tortorella “word salad, yada yada, fast, offense, young…”

Does John Tortorella even understand how to coach this kids play style? This kid is the defenseman version of Frost and we expect Torts to coach Drysdale different? Yeah right.

Maybe those begrudgingly given words of support for Frost the last 2 games means that Jonesy finally got sick of Torts’ bull stuff and told him that he was the reason they had to trade Gaultier and if he doesn’t start respecting Frost he’s going to get fired.(ie promoted to an irrelevant position)

The issues arouse before the Frost drama. He could have turned pro. He just wasn’t guaranteed NHL time and might have been sent to the AHL. I actually like that. No one should be promised NHL time. The other things could be correct.

It is entirely possible that Gauthier is the guy who was a Richard here. And based on what I read about Drysdale, I have no problems with the trade and like his skill set more than that of Gauthier. Having him and Michkov on the ice at the same time could be tremendous if all pans out. I like the Flyers doing the reverse of NP over Makar here.

But I dislike an organized hit job and what is clearly a 1-sided media campaign on a 19 year old budding star. Full of hidden rancor. I especially dislike it* when it keeps happening, several times a year, year after year.

Just fold the franchise and start a reality show.

EDIT: By it, I mean the drama

- PT21

It's a hit job by management coming out and telling the truth? That the player didn't want to play here?

I really don’t like Torts. However, if a player doesn’t sign his entry level contract because of a coach- he should go pound sand. I don’t want him on my team.

Bro, franchises get unlucky every now and then. Its part of sports. They dont get so unlucky so often in such a short span of time.

If they do, we probably have different views on the underlying causes.

Where's the hit job? The kid said he didn't want to be here and didn't give them a reason. That's all the Flyers said. What were they supposed to say? We love Jamie Drysdale so much that we had to let our top prospect (who just won a gold and was named MVP of the tournament) go before we even see him play in the NHL? What was your reaction to the move before you heard Cutter didn't want to be here? Seemed stupid to me. Wouldn't the Flyers then look even worse when the news came out that Cutter didn't want to be in Philly and refused to even communicate with them about it? Also, wouldn't you be pissed about it? I thought they were pretty low key about it considering the situation.
- Dkos

Absolutely, without knowing that and if they tried to pass it off as they like Drysdale better. This fan base would've gone crazy. There is no hit job.

If Cutter was supposed to be an important center moving forward, does this make Frost more valuable to the team?

I haven't back read too far so not sure anyone mentioned this... IIRC, MM would not take interviews or calls from AZ before the draft. NOTE that was BEFORE the draft. CG was after the Flyers already drafted him and controlled his rights. They also, seemingly up to this summer, had been involved with his development which is why BC was playing him at C instead of W for most of the games. Do I think Hayes had any influence? It's possible given their connection and the fact that young kids DO regularly seek advice from older, more experienced players.

What I think it really comes down to is that the kid didn't want to play in LHV or play under Torts after watching how Torts has dealt with Frost and other players. The fact that CG wasn't man enough to even meet with Jonesy or DB in Sweden is more of a reflection on his immaturity and lack of candor or honesty, which are major character problems. Given that, I'm glad he's gone and will not be a problem in the Flyers locker room in the future.

That's my 2 cents. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

No one outside of this fanbase is paying attention to Frost or his benching. He's not good enough to draw that type of attention.

1. You dont know that. That is what you have been told. If that was true, reach out via intermediaries. Often, people will reveal the real reason off the record. I mean, there is an underlying reason for CG not wanting to play here, right? There has to be something? He is not a psychotic guy, is he?

2. Work with the kid's agent. Say we are trading you and we want a spin thats best for both of us. No need whatsoever to add all this thing about going to Sweden and him not wanting to meet us. This makes them look like a desperate partner trying their ex to not go through with divorce or something. No need to have your demented coach make comments about not knowing your best prospect in this country, one who is making hockey headlines, one who is possibly going to dress for you this year, from a "hole in the wall". It makes you look like an idiot.

Just say Cutter thought his future was different than what we think is best for him. We wish him the best. We are very excited to have Drysdale.

If Cutter truly didn't want to say what the issue was, it is likely deeper than wing/center. Maybe he saw organizational dysfunction, so deep that he knew it couldn't be corrected. How would you feel about whether he was right in his assessment based on how this matter was handled?

- PT21

The Flyers clearly said that they wouldn't talk to us. Meaning Gauthier and his agent. Why should the Flyers have to find another intermediary? The professional approach is to deal directly. The Flyers aren't nor should they trust and involve a 3rd party.
