I brought this question up yesterday.
Does DB have another trade in the works?
We are carrying too many Dmen and none are waiver exempt so who leaves?
I hope Staal is the pine rider here but we know how torts is

- Bob Habib

It should be Walker. He has the most value.

Briere emphasizing that Cutter is a LW in last night’s presser is the give away.
- StepfordSam

Is that a dig that he's not good enough to be a center or does that mean he's saying that he's not what the Flyers need?

I never saw Cutter as center, not sure who it was in the organization that determined he should play center.

I want to know Gauthiers side. Something happened, and it changed his mind about the team.
- TheFreak

It would be nice to hear both sides of the story. All we've heard so far is a media blitz by a large media company that, unsurprisingly, makes that side look good. Maybe that's all there is to it but it seems unlikely.

It almost seems coordinated the way the Hayes-Gauthier angle went from 0 to 100 immediately without any quotes from Gauthier or Hayes or anyone directly involved with either of them.

Also, as mentioned in one of the articles posted in this thread is is very peculiar that Briere stopped referring to Gauthier as a center and instead as a winger especially after he has been playing center as requested.

Drysdale should be a good player for the Flyers if he remains healthy but everyone has gone out of their way to slam Gauthier from top to bottom. Maybe deservedly but it seems at least some of the opinions are based on what was said by the Flyers brass before others were interviewed.

curious as to why you think this
- hello it's me 2050

Long term the organization has 4 options to play the right side. Sanheim, Risto, and Drysdale already on the roster. Grans and Attard in the AHL. Bonk on his way. Walker will want a multi yr deal (guessing at least 3 yrs) making more the 2.65 million he is currently. I do believe he is entitled to such a contract, but with York and Zamula also getting raises over the next few seasons- just believe Walker goes

What happens when Cates comes back? They do not have the cap space correct?

Drysdale was #4 what? He was their top pairing RHD with Fowler playing 20-21 minutes a night. Yes, he got injured, which is concerning, but don't paint the picture as if they lost nothing. Anaheim has some nice depth, but it's mostly all on the left side.
- Glak18

what I read so far says Drysdale was their #1 and that it was a risk for the Ducks to trade him as they don't see their D pool as a top end D pool, but their forwards are now top notch. Even the blog for the Ducks called the trade even and wait and see.

My educated guess is that Cutter didn’t like that the Flyers wanted him at center. Everything unfolded the way it did thereafter.

Walker and Risto are 29, so it doesn't fit any kind of rebuild to have both of them taking up RHD slots for 3+ more seasons after this one. Not when you drafted Bonk and just traded for Drysdale.

In these types of cases it seems that the players have one specific place they really want to go to... like Blake Wheeler and Boston, Fox/Vesey/Hayes and NY.

Wouldn't surprise me if Cutter wants to be a Pen or something and Anaheim ends up getting burned too.

- Tomahawk

I think Cutter sees the Ducks young, skilled O and he will like that, best place for him to grow with players his age. Philly does not have that, yea MM and some step down talent like TIP but...

I agree, good for Walker who seized his opportunity this season. Some team will pay him, and I hope he continues to do well

No one is talking about the most important thing...what number will Drysdale wear?

The anticipation is killing me.

fair enough. Attard is an afterthought imo at this point. Grans is out for the years and wasn't exactly tearing it up prior.

Walker imo will want to cash in as his last chance at a mega deal. I move both im and seeler. I have my doubts they do. Hopefully Walker says he wont re-sign to force their hand. That seems to be a pattern developing.

Wonder if any of the "beats" will contact Chuck and ask him about this situation.

If Hathaway didn't already wear 19, I'd say he could wear that in honour of Cutter.. We'll see if Drysdale reports or holds out as it's clear that noone wants play here..

Behn Wilson, Dan McGillis and now Jaime Drysdale- jersey #3 for the Flyers. The tradition of #3 continues on

Hate the 11 forwards 7 D alignment. One injury in game and you are essentially down to 3 lines.

That said Deslauriers is awful and should not see the ice.

- PLindbergh31

Anyone who's played organized ice hockey and is a defenseman definitely hates the 11 fwds and 7 dmen approach. It messes up your flow of the game and can get confusing especially during hectic moments, PP / PK / 4-on4, and in a tight game.

To Bill's point Torts is exhausting a small handful of essential Flyers players with heaps of ice time whilst still keeping a slew of other Flyers players from more ice time (Frost and Tippett should be playing more IMO). I think Laughton is probably playing about 4-6 minutes more than he should be.

Since we are a middling team with aspirations, not having another disjointed attempt at molding a Flyer is a good thing.
Following the coaching of Torts is a strain until you 'fit'.
This kid may have found that he truly hated being told what he WILL do.
It would fit with his recalcitrance.
If Hayes held his attention, a player who certainly held to an 'attitude', it would slip into a groove for an arrogant youngster.
I'm amazed his agent withheld communicating though. How does he expect to be paid? Withdrawing from negotiations prior to a package being presented doesn't improve your position.

Flyers have said they didn't talk to Cutter. Did they talk to his agent at all? Has then said in anyway?

I just have a hard time believing cutter or his agent completely shut off all communications. If they did then that is plain stupid. As would hurt both their reputations going forward.

Need to hear cutters camp talk as this is good stuff.

Interesting that Hayes also refused to sign with the team that drafted him.
