Not much a kid can say when he hasn’t played a single game in the NHL…. In the end it’s his right. To me it screams character issues. You are correct there will be more to come. In the Lindros situation it came out even before they drafted him in Quebec. Adam Fox was a 3rd rnd pick… in those cases the organizations weren’t ghosted by the player. - landros 2
Yeah, this protracted ghosting part did not happen. Ha ha.These are multi multi million dollar entities and they are meeting via intermediaries who are highly experienced at this. Not via FB.
Now, why would a competently run organization trot out a clearly rehearsed but amateurish explanation show like this? All Cutter has to do is to refute it, and at best, BOTH sides look bad. Which is why you never, ever wanna let things degenerate to this level in public. You are playing a lose-lose game |

Interesting that Hayes also refused to sign with the team that drafted him. - Dkos
Is the NCAA transfer agreement a cancer for the league? I’ve asked this question before so it’s not just a ‘it happened to us’ inquiry. I personally don’t like it. |

maybe he was told he will be signed after his freshman year. Then when they wanted him to go back to school it soured him. Possibly they lied to him.
It was well known Cutter himself said he only wants to play 1 year of college. |

I believe in this principle very strongly: When someone shows you who they are .. believe them.
I have a lot of respect for Michkov, because at least he was up front and made it clear to teams *before* the draft whether he wanted to play for the team or not. This was the right thing to do, so teams would not waste a very high pick on a player that does to want to play for them.
I have a lot of respect for Brent Flahr as a drafter and I am sure he would not have recommended to Fletcher to use the #5 pick on Gauthier if he knew Gauthier did not want to play here. Briere was also involved in the pick and stated last night at the draft Gauthier stated "he was born to be a Flyer". Briere also stated last night that it was after Gauthier came back from the WJCs last year that he changed and started to tune them out.
After reflection, my guess is Gauthier's parents don't want their son to play for the Flyers and thus drove this action. It would not be the first time parents get involved and run their kids lives. We all remember what Lindros' parents were like. I think Gauthier would play in the NHL for whatever team he could and be happy. I also surmise his parents dislike for Torts as the main reason why they don't want their son playing for the Flyers.
But what a bunch of scumbags! To no be up front and honest with the Flyers about what they were thinking and at least give Briere and Jones a chance to understand their point of view and present their side of the case? When someone shows you who they are ... believe them!
Cutter Gauthier showed us all who he is, and if I were Anaheim I would be reasonably worried that I am next. I honestly think the Flyers dodged a huge bullet here. |

No, it's fine. Even a sad sack franchise like the Coyotes got their college guy signed.

So you are going to pout and take your marbles off the board?? If this was the reason, which I highly doubt it was, good riddens! As Hextall once said, no player ever hurt their development by spending more time developing. |

I hope not because the perception by many he was immature and selfish. In theory, he'll be turning pro in about 4 months. I do not think there is much to gain to wait, unless he wants to go the Adam Fox route and only play for one team. |

The situation is what it is. DB got a nice haul when the kid was at pre-pro peak value. The Flyers are on the losing end of this, but not by much.
The real damage is to both parties' reputations. CG will have to prove he doesn't have a personality disorder. The Flyers brass will have to prove they are a legit front office despite the experience gap.
Only time will tell.

The Flyers brass had to prove that even before this event. I put this all on Gauthier.

He did want to play here, but something changed his mind to the point of not wanting anything to do with the team.
Briere was also involved in the pick and stated last night at the draft Gauthier stated "he was born to be a Flyer". Briere also stated last night that it was after Gauthier came back from the WJCs last year that he changed and started to tune them out.

Why? please explain this unrational thought.
This has nothing to do with Lindros |

I’m not sure how the Flyers are on the losing end. Cutter will probably leave the Ducks Richards flapping in the wind the first chance he gets as a UFA.
Drysdale is an excellent D prospect. RH too. And everyone seems to love him from scouts to coaches to teammates.
If you told me 5 years ago the Flyers would get a top 21 year old RH D prospect for a prospect that decided to cut all ties with the team… I’d be planning a (frank)ing parade. |

It is entirely possible that Gauthier is the guy who was a Richard here. And based on what I read about Drysdale, I have no problems with the trade and like his skill set more than that of Gauthier. Having him and Michkov on the ice at the same time could be tremendous if all pans out. I like the Flyers doing the reverse of NP over Makar here.
But I dislike an organized hit job and what is clearly a 1-sided media campaign on a 19 year old budding star. Full of hidden rancor. I especially dislike it* when it keeps happening, several times a year, year after year.
Just fold the franchise and start a reality show.
EDIT: By it, I mean the drama |
