I didn’t say they should.

Jesus, you’re a Santard disciple now?

Also, Joe Woll hasn’t proven poop in the NHL. Jones is by far and away our best, and most proven goalie.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

I'm less convinced that goalies are "proven" at any number of games anymore.

You have your elites - a very small number of star goalies (Sorokin, Shesterrkin, Helly, et al.) - and then you have your interchangeables.

Hot take: I think the Leafs are fine with Jones, Woll, and (yes, completely unused/untested) Hildeby. Sammy is broken.

They should sign Perry and go after a legit shutdown defender (e.g. Tanev). Would be sweet to also land another C like Lindholm, but I think that may be a bridge too far.

Wtf

I’m laughing cuz u lol’d him and he gave it right back, instantly

Woll and Jones both make less than 1m and are providing incredible value
Not sure why you have an issue with either 🤷🏿‍♂️

Lol ☺️

- mr.sir

I don’t have an issue with them, but neither are a reliable #1 they should be overly comfortable with going into the playoffs.

They would need to go on quite the run to make it...They are in limbo with their UFA's.

Seems like they want young players over picks which is probably the wrong move but keeps the owner happy.

Bottom line if they leave this TDL with no picks and prospects and keep their UFA's its 100% the wrong move with where they are at.

- Santo_44

I agree, but we've seen this story before from ownership that thinks the best way to keep butts in seats is now as opposed to accepting the futility of your current situation and making the hard decision. Christ, as Leaf fans we watched this team's ownership fail to embrace a rebuild for our entire lives. The two times I can think where the Leafs were good with home grown talent was the mid-1970s and then Ballard and Imlach teamed up to tear it apart, and in the mid-80s where they would draft decently enough and then blow it up for veteran talent we didn't need.

To be completely honest, I can't imagine another ownership group in hockey history being as inept as the Leafs over those two decades.

Markstrom being traded maybe...Canes?

Maybe the Sens in a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding?

- Santo_44

Calgary are just a few points out of a playoff spot.
Not sure if they would want to move him now.

That's the secondary conversation Santo and I were sort of having . . .

3 very important players for Calgary - Lindholm, Hanifin and Tanev are all expected to leave as UFAs at the end of the year. They have thrown a lot of money at Lindholm in an offer and he did not accept it.

That will leave them with an aging Kadri, an aging Huberdeau, an aging Backlund, an aging Coleman, Weegar, Andersson, Zary, Mangiapane, Dube and Markstrom.

Mangiapane, Dube and Markstrom all have trade value - Markstrom in particular because he has 2 years left after this one. Mangiapane might be a bit overpaid, and Dube is still an RFA - so they have control over him and probably wouldn't want to relinquish it.

If they ride it out and let's say they make the playoffs - they're 4 and done, or if the Hockey Gods smile on them, 5 and done. And then they lose 3 key pieces for nothing and are older and worse with not enough in the cupboards.

The _right_ move is to rebuild. The only question is if they actually will do it.

So interesting Merzlikins has been discussed in a trade? Sammy plus cap dump and sweetener for him and run with him and Jones? Kind of sounds like a Tre move. Maybe part of a bigger deal that includes a d?

F the Jays.

My friends were getting tickets for this upcoming season and I told them I want no part of it. I'm not giving those idiots a dime. Shapiro and Atkins are terrible. They are politicians more than they are leaders. The players generally hate them. Get rid of them and the team would very likely get better.

I'd pay a LOT for Rasmoose if he were at all available. Great RH defender on a very friendly contract.

Is your defense better? Is your goaltending better than last years? What is the reason for optimism? Honestly. Because it looks like the same old from the outside. As a leaf fan how do you maintain the cheer. Canadian spirits?
- Just5

** Edit - removed the comment making an outright assumption you are trolling, you may be but whatever. Left in the last one because I hate the Eagles. Cry Eagles Cry! lol**

Is the Defense better - no.

Have they had as many AHL D-men playing a huge chunk of this season as NHL D men due to injury - yes.

Was Joseph Woll absolutely killing it before he got hurt - yep.

Has Martin Jones been a really nice surprise and was just named NHL player of the week - Yep.

Leaf fans are generally fans for life, many lived through the Ballard years and are still here proving they can make it through almost anything.

There is this new fangled thing called trades that teams can do where they swap players or draft picks or sometimes both to change what they have on their roster before a deadline to improve in areas they feel they need to!

It's super cool you should read up on it!

Now get out from under that bridge and go buy some batteries to throw at players you don't like or make some snowballs to throw at Santa.

Nick Foligno doing the reverse vet move and get severely overpaid on a terrible team to end his career.

I see you read 'Trolling for Dummies' eh?

Come in and pretend to be here to just talk hockey.

Then chirp and await a reaction while claiming you don't care about your own team because you expect them to be bad.

Then double down with an incredibly insightful view to the future because you know so much.

No wonder people hate Philly fans and young, bright future NHL players don't want to play in Philly & then get death threats for it.

Jesus Christ.

The 70's exploitation film version was better.

I saw it posted on the Spittin' Chicklets page and holy man the number of Chicago fans praising it and getting super butt hurt if anyone dares say it's an overpay was pretty wild.
