What is he going to acclimate to, sitting on a plane vs riding a bus? - washedup20
You all really discount practice. You can get better just practicing with NHL players vs AHL players. The releases are so much quicker, that's what you're acclimating to and every shot helps. But I do get he needs to play, still as has been shown, Levi has 19 games to UPLs 22 now, it's really not that wild. If he gets 35 games this year, that's a solid amount of usage. |

So he's acclimating to the NHL game sitting. Interesting - Buff36
19 starts, on pace for 37, that would be solid usage for a rookie goalie. |

Yes taking shots from Krebs vs Kulich is worth backing up a year.
The Sabres roster sucks bro, their coaches suck, how could you think these practices are doing anything...the entire team has regressed into dog poop. If anything these practices are detrimental. |

Don't act like this was the plan, this is the result of poor play and the kid not being ready.

However he finishes the season...this is another year where he cannot maintain consistency throughout.
Taking snippets of a failed season as evidence things are improving is moronic. - washedup20
Not all Goalies mature early, most have ups and downs until they grow into that consistency everyone is wanting to see.
He is still not 25, which is still on the younger side for Goalies in the NHL.
As long as we see him progressing into longer patterns of strong play and a short number of games in a row of less than good play then he is progressing in the right direction. Having 2 up games followed by 2 poop games isn't what we should be seeing at this point however. |

There's no consistency in development for anyone.
Benson and Levi get thrown to the wolves...while they shelter Rosen, Savoie, Ostlund, Kulich. There is no evidence its helping any of them.

You know that’s not what I am doing, but for instance, Pominville was notorious for having a slow first 40 games scoring at a .35 clip and then would go on a .ppg tear after the new year.
Point is, the only consistent thing has been change - coaches, systems, personnel. And after an admittedly large adjustment period some 3 years in a row now, the same goalie has come in after the new year and provided consistent play.
I have been maybe the one guy on this blog who hasn’t wanted UPL jettisoned into the sun, and while I haven’t been here worshipping him or even singing his praises, I know goalies take a long time to develop and sometimes they get hot.
UPL is approaching the start of a goalie’s “prime” years. 27-33 is that sweet spot for a goalie.
Levi, too is only 21. It’s going to be rough with him, but this is what he wanted. We have a few more seasons of growing pains with him and I will be patient with him, too. - Jet Jaguar BD

If he gets those 37 starts, he has sat for 2 weeks and UPL doesn't look like he wants to give the Net up and the Sabres need to go with the hot hand. Levi is waiver exempt. Send him down for a month and get some games in and call Comrie up. Who cares if he sits. You can bring Levi back up. Comrie doesn't have to worry about clearing waivers again for 30 days or close to that. |

Adams (frank)ed UPL last season.
If UPL can maintain this small window of decent play against actual good teams, he will demand too much money and force his way out. He was pissed last season and it took until January this season for him to even get a few games in a row to play.
Is anyone willing to overpay UPL to resign while majority here still hold Levi as the holy grail of goalies? |

I would argue each player is different both mentally and physically so their development plan should be different.

You can argue all you want, all of these high 1st round picks are developing into average players for a losing team.

Well the bad thing is you draft all this Talent and there all built in the same mold. There development gets screwed up cause you run out of spots to actually play them to help properly Develop them. Especially with Adams plan cause he just collects them and they build up dust from improper usage. |

From months of complaining from you that our draft picks are not all up with the big club and are therefore not developing into their projected finished product within a year or so, it is obvious you have absolutely no clue that these prospects are 18 when drafted and playing against boys. You fail to recognize each is different and some can be promoted faster than others.
You remind me of an investor wondering what is taking so long to build a house when the materials just arrived.
Relax with all the constant bashing of prospect development and realize if you get one up before D+2 minimum it was pretty pretty good.
Rail on Kevin f'g the bottom 6 w/ complete BS players and his inability to trade for needed pieces and parts...that is all fair game
Just IMO. |

Personally, my biggest leap in talent came from when I was wrapping up my junior year of high school hockey and started to play junior A. At first, I was behind two guys, so I only got to practice with them. Within a month I was significantly better without ever seeing a lick of game time. There's a reason why guys like John Elkin, Bob Essensa, Mitch Korn and Ian Clarke all made a killing setting up goalie camps over the summer...where not one game is ever played. We can get better without game time scenarios. |

Well, that is a different issue and has 100% to do with Coaching when they get up AND not having a good supporting cast.
You can see they are coaching Benson right out of his effective style ...pursue bit don't touch |

Obviously we hoped he did even better, but I'm not dismayed by his play either. Our defense is porous, we have very little structure and let up a lot of point blank chances at random. Any goalie will struggle in this scenario.
It still doesn't change the fact that starting 35-37 games is a good load and not some wasted year. |
