That's interesting, since he was better when he came right out of college for those 7 games.
The more time he has spent here the more mediocre he has become...but practicing with guys like:
Girgs/Skinner/Okposo/Greenway/Robinson/Krebs/Olo etc has done wonders for Levi and the rest of the crew. The benefits are obvious. - washedup20
Most of those bottom6 scrubs are still better shooters than their AHL equivalents. There's really no one at the AHL level shooting like Tage, as an example, you can't teach that.

why was tage a 6.5 percent shooter for his first 140 games, and then a 15 percent shooter for his next 190 games?

Right, a running start at a puck...
Doing that at full speed, in traffic, as can be simulated at the NHL level in practice, is not the same. We also have no Frk's on our team. Kulich has a good one timer, let's not try to suggest it's on Tage's or Olofsson's level.

Go get Justin Barron
Buffalo- Barron Calgary's 1st 2025
Montreal- Mitts
Go see what Nashville's thoughts are on Trenin or sign him in the Offseason as a FA. Start the process now.
Dahlin Joker
Power Barron
Johnson Clifton
Ryan Johnson is gonna be the perfect partner for Dahlin, his skating is probably the Best of the whole Dcore. They just need to play him. Next Year
Johnson Dahlin
Power Barron
Samuelsson/Novikov Clifton if he doesn't get traded then I see Joker there. - Buff36
I like it...
They should trade Cliffy and go after Tanev for another year or 2 let Johnson push him out (which could be soon or a year away)...nothing wrong with having a very solid leader on the backend.

it had to be more than opportunity doesn't it? - homiedclown
Opportunity is part of it, but he worked a lot on his body. He always had a great shot, but he took it to another level. Some guys blossom late, it seems that the bigger they are the more likely for that to be the case. Tage is obviously a unicorn, but has to be multifactorial for that big of a swing.

Did Olofsson's shot gain 20mph driving west on the 90?

Jiri Kulich ?
- DirtyDan
Jiri is a long ways off from being one of the best shooters in the NHL. I like the kid, but we need to pump the brakes. Also remember, at the NHL level, a lot of guys can shoot like that on every team, not just one or two.
I'm actually surprised how many seem to think the AHL and NHL are similar. The speed is faster, the shots come quicker and the releases are much more deceptive (by design). There's a reason why so many players look good in the AHL only to get thumped in the pros.
Mark Mancari videos are cool, but we should remember he was completely out of place in the NHL. There are guys who can shoot like him, but actually play the rest of the sport well. They skate faster, their release is quicker and they pass better.

No. However, there isn't anyone down the 90 with Olo's shot either.
Remember, this isn't a comparison of just one guy either. Half of our lineup can shoot better than our best AHL shooter. Even Okposo can still rip one top shelf and catch a goalie, he's one of the worst players on the team...

he did put up better numbers in his 42 game nhl stint than girgens for this current season
his skating sucked no matter how many offseasons was spent working on it
vanek had a nice run for that stretch with him on his line in 10-11 though

I said Okposo would be Gretzky in the AHL. (Obviously over stating) I agree with oyu in the sense there is levels to this shtuff.
Young goalies also need to adapt and transition to better play. Especially a guy who has taken the long road at every stage of his hockey career till now all of a sudden.
He should in the AHL playing at .920%, getting wins, feeling good and gaining confidence. If the top goalie prospect in the same draft is going the traditional route. I believe the 7th rounder should as well. No matter the trophies he got in college.
