I don’t know much about the Hockey Canada stuff but I do know that giving anyone on that team (that was at the event) a long term deal right now is a bad idea (from both a PR and a cap perspective). I hate to be a downer but until that is resolved he has low value in a trade and a deal is unlikely to occur. The police and then the league should have moved on this over the summer. Until it is resolved I believe we are looking at an impasse.

In my opinion the teams know what they need to know about the incident. How much they plays on any deals for those involved hard to tell. Though logic says it does to some effect.

Shouldn't a team that is rebuilding be playing in a manner that is more conducive to long term success. To build playing in a manner that they would play if they had more talent? Even if it means less wins now? That is what is meant when I call it a mirage and others use terms like fools gold. Also begs the question of how is team management going to approach this now? Are they going to put winning above rebuilding? I keep hearing reports of rumors of potential things the team might be doing or looking to do. Obviously rumors are just rumors and it remains to be seen. A lot of the fans seem to be buying in.

I believe even highly skilled and fast teams dial it back some and play a more defensive and structured game come playoff time. That’s just hockey. When and if we accumulate better talent this style will help us advance in playoff series when the talent is comparable. As I stated before with you, we’re just fans. As a business, I’m sure they also want to keep fannies in the seats until we get to the point where we could contend consistently. Winning anyway they can for now will make those higher ups happy. Let’s just hope they are more committed to building a true consistent winner than filling their pockets. It’s been so bad for the last decade, I’m just trying to enjoy the success as it happens.

I don't believe that is the case. They play with the same structure that they've played with all season. They play 82 games a certain way and then they're going to change the way they play? What actually changes is the competition level. There are less opportunities for rush plays and transition play due to teams being more equal. The Flyers, unless they get an abundance of elite level talent, are never going to be able to create enough offense playing this way. It's too safe, to conservative in having to always be on the defensive side of the puck. They really need to get a different assistant coach in here and Tortorella has to be open to it.
